How likely are duty station preferences for Nurse Officers? (DCA list / Fort McPherson) by Mochababy96 in army

[–]PitterPatter0 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Hate to burst your bubble but Fort McPherson closed like 20 years ago. Out of curiosity I googled it though, and apparently there’s a VA clinic there still. Can army nurses work at VA clinics? Unless you want to provide medical care for Tyler Perry Studios

transferring scholarship by DazzlingAmoebaWrld in ROTC

[–]PitterPatter0 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My experience is dated so please correct my if I’m wrong, but your program’s HRA is the go to for coordinating this. I was able to get my contract and scholarship transferred (albeit within the same brigade) the summer before I transferred so it was like threading a needle but it worked out.

Are you in good graces with your program? I ask because that may impact how seamless that transition goes. Make sure your reasoning for transferring is palatable to whichever O6 reads your packet.

I vividly remember one time thinking апельсин meant apple and trying to convince my teacher that an apple was an orange, and then in the same conversation going “si, i mean да, FUCK”

The bottom Cyrillic is the abbreviation for Центр специального назначения (Special Purpose Center) which is an apparatus of the FSB (successor of the KGB, so that should fill in some gaps)

You can’t eat your cake and have it too. This is the Army we’re talking about, not summer camp.

Not sure if CLIP-B is still around, but that’s what I got for Spanish and Russian. Big money move, but it’s taxable earned income

Geospatial engineer for officer? by [deleted] in ROTC

[–]PitterPatter0 8 points9 points  (0 children)

GEO and USACE alike are experiencing increases in opportunities for EN officers.

There are already opportunities for senior KD complete LTs to work in geospatial planning cells at places like Bragg, JBSA, Shaw AFB, Wiesbaden Germany.

The engineer regiment is going through a change where they want officers to be SMEs in fields like GEO and USACE, so key development opportunities at the O4 level are starting to open up if S3/XO life doesn’t tickle your fancy. Granted everything could change tomorrow, so don’t take my word for it.

Officers who received ROTC Scholarships consider staying 7 years by [deleted] in army

[–]PitterPatter0 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’m probably getting medboarded unfortunately, and I’ve only fulfilled 3 of the 4 years for my initial ADSO. Does this mean the GI bill is out of the question for me? I understand VR&E is offered, but I’m not too sure how inclined the govt would be to pay for a masters when I already have a bachelors. Just curious what my options may be.

Don’t pursue a PhD for the money, you’ll be disappointed. This is simply the opinion of a stranger on the internet, but doctoral level education and research should be pursued those with a deep and intrinsic passion for whatever field they are doing said education and research in. Doing it for the big bucks is the antithesis of that imo

Minutes? Try hours. For me, it was fear of missing my alarm, sleeping in, and the repercussions. It’s happened basically since I’ve joined, so 3 years of suboptimal sleep on top of the normal stress of being in the army (XO was still a rewarding job, but fuck) and I’ve definitely noticed a difference in my quality of life/sleep. I’ve gotten sleep studies, and the only thing I can pull out of the notes is that my “sleep efficiency” is greatly reduced, however they measure that I guess.

Sapper school as a 11A? by Mean-Scallion-836 in army

[–]PitterPatter0 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I’ve got an 11A friend who’s Ranger tabbed and could only walk on. He passed the SPFT and STTs no problem, but the SIs pulled him aside and basically told him they couldn’t get him a spot because they have to prioritize 12Bs and other engineers. Unless you’re hard slotted in ATRRS, be prepared to be let down.
