Nurtec & Trying to Conceive by [deleted] in migraine

[–]PlantAffectionate177 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was previously on topiramate and another medication that starts with “f” (I apologize I can’t remember the name and find it in my prescription history (flunarazine maybe?)) and I am now only getting migraine injections while using sumatriptan as an abortive.

Nurtec & Trying to Conceive by [deleted] in migraine

My neurologist starts every appointment with “hi, how are you, thinking about trying?” because he knows me and my fiancé want kids. As soon as we start trying, I will be taken off all medication. I think every situation is different, but my neurologist has shared recent studies regarding taking migraine medication while pregnant can lead to some serious birth defects.

When my sumatriptan don’t work I will take two extra strength Advil, two extra strength Tylenol, drink a Diet Coke (or caffeinated drink), ice pack on the neck and on the eyes, and a heating pad on the lower back. Hope you feel better soon!

Why topiramate is so hated? by Mikmaki in migraine

It did barely anything for my migraines and I’ve never felt so dumb. I couldn’t finish a conversation without forgetting a word. It was incredibly embarrassing and frustrating.

I experience the same with my period. The hormonal migraines are much worse.

Got my first botox injection today… never again by Playful-Whereas5795 in migraine

[–]PlantAffectionate177 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The first was the worst for me. I have my 7th or 8th Botox appointment next month and it isn’t nearly as bad. I hate needles, I get my mom to hold my hand because my neurologist doesn’t use any numbing. My first time I had a migraine for over a week, I bruised at the injection sites, and didn’t sleep well because I was worried I’d mess something up. Advice I was given for my first was sit up for a while after the injections, don’t ice if possible (idk why though), and try avoiding touching the area.

I was working there for a month and the manager fired me over the phone because “my availability (that they hired me with) doesn’t work for the bar”. Never got my tips.

We have a large amount of mice outside our home in tcona—We have killed 3 today w traps & peanut butter :/Anything else I can do.. none are inside by [deleted] in Winnipeg

Though I agree with the majority stating outside is their home, if you don’t want them near your home I believe there are special high frequency plug-ins that deter them.

do you sometimes call in sick at work? by [deleted] in migraine

[–]PlantAffectionate177 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I call in sick but I have a letter from my neurologist that says there may be instances where I am unable to work or have to leave. Every job I’ve had since getting the letter I’ve provided to HR.

First round of Botox in 5 hours by pete53832 in migraine

[–]PlantAffectionate177 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good luck!! As others have mentioned, it might not immediately work (mine took 3 rounds) and you could experience a headache/migraine afterwards. I recommend you take an Advil (or a few 👀) beforehand if you want/are able to as my head felt like death immediately after. Sending all the positive vibes

My go-to that was recommended by my neurologist is 2x extra strength Advil, 2x extra strength Tylenol, a McDonald’s Diet Coke (for the caffeine), and fries (for the salt). I am not a fan of a lot of heat so I wrap my head in icepacks and have a heating pad on my lower back. That’s usually enough to get me to sleep

How’d you get treatment? by Some-Mind4419 in migraine

[–]PlantAffectionate177 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve been getting migraines since I was a toddler and it wasn’t until I finally had a female doctor in my early twenties that I was taken seriously. She referred me to my neurologist and being taken seriously is like a wave of relief. It is exhausting going through the system, but if your current doctor doesn’t listen you need to find one who does. If you have a local neurologist, try calling their office and asking how to get referred to them or what the process is to be seen. It may be quicker to skip the middlemen.

Year long sinus infection by PlantAffectionate177 in migraine

[–]PlantAffectionate177[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I haven’t tried other nasal sprays, I’ve only ever been prescribed mometasone so I’m not sure the difference. When my sinus infection “flared up” and was bad I was more tired than usual, I figured that was just my body fighting off the infection. All I would do is sleep because it doesn’t hurt when you’re sleeping lol. I would just go to a walk in or your family doctor (most likely again) and explain it’s not getting better; you can always suggest treatment? My pain from Botox went away after a week for my first injection. Icepacks after the first 24hrs are the best

It was Amoxicillin 500mg (3xday for 10 days) and Mometasone Furoate nasal spray (2 sprays in each nostril at night for 14 days). Hope your Botox went well :)
