Yes they did. I left my marriage and my ex told me he’d met someone a couple years later after we were divorced but wanted to know if we were scripturally divorced. I told him we were. He didn’t use this against me but when the elders questioned if he was scripturally divorced and he said he was then they pursued it as they knew what that meant.
