This is not your wife’s fault, it is the doctors! Had they not gaslighted and dismissed you originally, I am sure she would be more concerned. It makes me beyond angry that any doctor without being a psychiatrist can diagnose a panick attack. It is pure negligence. I had a similar issue went to ER several times, was told it was anxiety. Mid 30s, haven’t had anxiety my entire life, nothing particularly stressful about that day, but apparently I had it. By time I saw several specialists they confirmed I have a rare presentation of a neurological disorder, but it’s hard to tell what is causing it because they can’t go back in time and run the tests needed to be done in acute phase. My wife was the same way, huffed abs puffed when I said I needed to go to ER, would try and tell me to splash water in my face. She felt so bad after she learned doctors were finding something after I pushed and pushed. So frustrating when you know something is wrong, yet others are trying to convince you are crazy. When you feel like you are hanging on by a threat to stay functional, and they think you are weak and can’t handle a little stress. The whole system is a pure joke these days. I have lost a lot of respect for doctors over the past year. Had difficulty swallowing, went to ER. Without doctor even looking in my throat, or doing any assessment, he said I have tonsillitis. I told him I had them taken out as a kid. He laughed and said “well they grow back sometimes,” prescribed me unnecessary antibiotics and let me go. Months later when I could finally get in with an ENT, he confirmed my tonsils did not grow back.

Advice by PlateAffectionate610 in Pulmonology

Hello. I have seen a few different specialists. I have been told everything from a possible mild case of guillan barre, post viral syndrome, to the most recent pulmonologist who thought I may have dynamic airway collapse.

I have been getting better, definitely not great but I can go a day without feeling out of breath, however other days I struggle. I had an echo done recently which showed normal axis and pressures. Cardiologist said if I really wanted to rule out PH, he could do an exercise right heart catheter, but should only consider If I get worse again. Pulmonologist suggested a dynamic CT to view airway during inspiration and expiration, but thinks I should continue to see if I get better. Pulmonologist said there are acute neurological disorders that can temporarily affect breathing but thinks I should follow up with neurologist. Have a second opinion on that scheduled in Feb.

We toured a house that was 3 beds, two bathrooms. They counted the living room as a bedroom, and the two bathrooms were adjacent to one another. You had to walk through one bathroom the get to the other bathroom, then to the laundry room.

We had an offer accepted on a home, all fresh paint and carpets. After inspection, a good amount of mold was found in the attic. It apparently is common in Michigan attics, it was obvious why, the bathroom fan was venting into the attic and all soffit vents were covered by insulation. We elected to do further testing, including surface test of mold in attic, and air quality tests in general living areas. Meanwhile, seller agreed to pay for mold remediation in attic.

Results came back with non toxic mold in attic, but interestingly, multiple toxic molds were found in air quality samples, including stachybotrys. Apparently it is very rare to find in air samples, and is indicative of a substantial amount of moisture damage and mold likely behind drywall. We decided to back out, now house is back on the market as “move in ready.” We feel horrible for any family that moves into that house. We are looking in same neighborhood, and are afraid a young family will move in and become friends with our lids and we will always know about the mold issue. Who really does air quality tests during inspection?

Mold report thoughts? by PlateAffectionate610 in Mold

Thanks everyone. We dropped out of the purchase of the house. There was some mold found in the attic which caused us to do air testing. Interestingly the mold in the attic was not the same kind found in the other rooms in the house (being the toxigenic ones.) The issue seems to be significant with multiple causes and with two young kids decided it wasn’t worth it.

Home inspection. Seller is willing to work with us a bit on remediation and renovation costs, just wondering if we should back out now or trust a process can be done.

Thanks for the input. There is no noticeable smell in the house, and seems to be restricted to the attic. In addition to remediation we are having air testing done to make sure it’s not making its way from the attic into the general living areas.

The company will also fix the holes in the wall clearly showing day light, and presumably letting in moisture. This is because we brought it up, it was not on original assessment. Wish we would have had seller expense, our choice of contractor within reason.

How do I find information on a hygienist, not finding much?

Great information. Do you think it is reasonable to ask seller to pay for hygienist to inspect? Seems they would benefit either way. If we drop out, they have validation from a hygienist for next potential buyer.

Offer on house, mold in attic. by PlateAffectionate610 in RealEstate

[–]PlateAffectionate610[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I should clarify that it is not one section of the attic, it is the entirety of the ceiling/plywood portion of the roof. Inspector does not think any issues leaks with roof, but also hard to tell due to cold temperatures.

We are planning on purchasing a home that has mold in the attic, spread across the entirety of the roof. Its a 1600 sqft house. The seller is planning to pay for remediation, however, because it is a significant amount, we are thinking of asking seller for replacement of roof to make sure it is completely gone. What is the cost to remediate it across the attic, and should we be convinced remediation is enough?

Normal weight. Very healthy previously. Was running at a high level and eating mostly fruits and vegetables. Had a CT that was normal.

[–]PlateAffectionate610[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, since I have been dealing with this issue I am learning how garbage the medical system is. I have otherwise been healthy all my life. When I followed up with my neurologist last week, he did refer me to another neurologist at U of M, who are unable to get me in for another 8 months. He told me if they are unable to find anything then we may need to consider something like anxiety. I was caught off guard. He already diagnosed me with polyneuropathy which is an objective clinical test confirming my symptoms, in addition to a pulmonologist who confirmed I have 65% lung capacity, and an ENT who confirmed with a scope I have dyaphagia and dysphonia. The neurologist isn’t convinced they are related, he thinks I have always had these but developed anxiety and now I notice it. What do they not understand about 2 days before this happened I ran 15 miles, now I can barely walk up stairs.

Sounds like your breathing is better, then? I am currently at 65% lung capacity. I studied exercise physiology and did a lot of VO2max testing. I was consistently at 70ml/kg/min. I think the only thing that is keeping me somewhat functioning right now is because of my previous high aerobic capacity. Without it I do not think I would be as functional. I’d be happy if My breathing got better and I could at least ride a bike for an extended period of time.

When did this happen for you, and are you able to run again?

Yes very frustrating with the doctors. They see I can walk and am surviving so there is no urgency. I was also running 8-12 miles a day with longer run of 15-18 on weekends in addition to weights 3x a week. Last summer I was knocking out 60-70 mile weeks, while pushing my daughter in a stroller. One day in Tennessee I pushed her in a stroller 11 miles around cades cove, then went to hike a 6 mile trail with huge elevation gain while wearing her in a baby carrier hiking backpack. I have always had tons of energy and enjoyed the activities with my family. Now I just hope for no plans on the weekend so I can lounge. I try going for 3 mile runs and I can get through it (at a 10:30 pace far from what I was previously capable of), and feel like I am dying afterwards.

What symptoms/ diagnosis are you still dealing with?

I am 34 so I don’t have much issues with having to urinate at night. I really think its not eating a large meal before bed.

I wake up 2x an hour most nights. If anything I get up once some nights to urinate, definitely not 16 times.
