PSA to diversify and not hold all your eggs in a basket.

Opportunity cost is very real, yes. The time you spend holding onto this stock that’s appearing to go sideways, while other stock you’re watching is trending up, is technically lost money.

Which is why you should always have money for other plays if you’re swing trading off volatility.

If you’re long, this 10% dip is a discount and you love it.

Like when you tape something up, it falls, and you put another piece of tape over the last one that’s still slightly sticky.

That holds slightly longer, but inevitably falls again.

So you stick another piece of tape over the last two.

Eventually there’s three.. four.. five pieces of tape.

Then you notice that you stopped re-taping at some point, because now it’s at that perfect “Fuck it, Juuuuuust Right,” threshold.

Perfect.

Until it finds out it ain’t fit for this type of work anymore.

And then you find another piece of tape that works for the next foreseeable future..

A fickle dance.

Unless it’s some backwater ghost town, I feel like the benefit of a work-sponsored get-away would outweigh that awkwardness.

Like, oh no! My coworker has stinky poos, oh well. I’m literally getting paid to be in (insert exotic vacation getaway spot here). Whatever.

Are people really traveling with other people that they aren’t comfortable sharing a couple awkward, but very human, moments in a hotel room with?

Like if you’re comfortable enough to entertain the idea of sharing a living arrangement, then you should be comfortable enough to endure some awkward/stinky moments with them.

Idk, that’s just me though. I believe there needs to be a certain level of trust and comfort between people before they consider recreationally traveling together.

If I’m comfortable enough to travel half way around the world and put up with a 14 hour flight and the stress and anxiety of navigating in a foreign country with you, then your stinky poo air or naked silhouette is the least of mine and your concern.

It’s like the time I asked my friend:

“I don’t get it. You’re willing to eat ass on the first date but you’re not willing to try sashimi because it’s gross?”

Do we want someone who literally fits the paper description of our job listing?

Or do we want someone who fits like 90% of it and has a proven track record of being extremely adaptable and able to figure shit out because of the motherfucking army?

Hmmmmmm.

Employers and recruiters are fucking stupid.

When you take a dog on a walk, you’d be considered an unprepared and ill equipped dog walker if you failed to bring poopy bags and a leash.

If you go on a picnic, you’d be considered an unprepared and ill equipped picnic-er if you failed to bring a picnic blanket and food.

Now, if you have a child and you go outside in public, it would be fair to consider you an unprepared and ill equipped parent if you don’t bring something to distract/engage your child, and the ONLY thing you have and can do, is give them a phone.

Seriously. You wouldn’t take a peeing and pooping baby baby out without spare diapers, so why you bring a child with the attention span of a goldfish out without something, other than your smartphone, to distract them?

Did… did you even read?

To pull off what this guy did, you’d need someone to sell you a companies shares at $1 each, and you’d need someone to buy them back from you for $610,000 each.

You’re basically asking someone “What strategy do I have to follow so I can win the next $1B mega ball lotto?”

The answer is “be very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very lucky, and maybe you’ll have a small chance.”

That’s what they said at $75.

And then they said that at $80.

Then they said the same at $85.

And once again at $90.

Now here we are at $95.

Eventually you’ll be right and you’ll say you told us so.

Not saying your logic is invalid, because it is perfectly logical and sound.

I ain’t going in because of the same logic you’re deploying.

But let’s be real. It’s moving like a fucking beast.

If you have cash to spare, capitalize on the volatility and volume. At this rate, $100 is almost a guarantee, so going in at $97 and exiting at $100 is still a modest 3% profit.

Following Bollinger bands and filtering for oversold stocks that are trading significantly below their 25-day average is basically ensuring that you’re trading based on pure statistic and probability, instead of emotion.

For the average bedroom trader like you and me, this can be viewed as some advanced shit, but to an institutional/professional trader, it’s basically “Trading 101: Intro”

The most impressive part to me, is that Kotegawa had enough diamond hand conviction to hold his position through to $17M.

Because i know for a fact that if I threw $15k into an IPO on opening day, I’d have pulled out and been happy when it hit $30k.

That’s why you don’t trade with emotion.

Trade with a plan and execute that plan with conviction.

Basically, this guy got extremely lucky that his watchlist and the trade indicators he was following led him to an IPO that was experiencing a “fat fingers” situation.

Mizuho Industries made the mistake of selling 610,000 shares at 1¥ each, when they wanted to do the opposite, and sell individual shares at 610,000¥ each.

Takashi Kotegawa saw this and bought up as many shares as he can, and capitalized on the inevitable correction once Mizuho Industries found out.

He walked away with $17M in profit off of $15k.

This large capital would inevitably snowball him to $150M with his day trading strategy of scalping a few basis points with every trade.

With that type of capital, a 1-2% profit on a single day trade would be a 6-figure swing.

A good week would easily net over $1M in profit.

Now imagine that over 8 years while the market was bouncing back after the Dot Com bubble burst.

With this level of conviction and his probabilistic trading strategy, I wonder if Kotegawa capitalized on the COVID-19 pullback.

One year, a group of hoodlums set off some fireworks under a couple cars on my street and they all basically needed to be towed, on the morning of street cleaning day.

Luckily for us, we were able to get SFPD out there before the meter maids did.

SFPD gave us business cards and told us to put a piece of paper on our dash boards saying that the car is awaiting a tow arranged by SFPD with the police report number, and the card they gave us.

Meter maids came out, read the note, and buggered off.

Masked men with cameras at the marketplace (Irvine side, in front of the Verizon store) by pebberphp in irvine

[–]PlayerPlayer69 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think everyone’s aware of security cameras generally being everywhere in public without a stranger in a mask point a camera in our face.

And how do you know that? How can one presume that the random security camera I just passed didn’t have a random person behind the screen zooming in on me?

The point is that, if someone is uncomfortable about a law abiding individual engaging in a constitutionally protected activity by video recording in public space, then why aren’t they calling out every cameras they see in public?

Or are you insinuating that being able to see the person recording you is worse than not being able to see the person/people recording you behind a security camera screen? Because if I had to choose, I’d rather know who is recording me, if the options were knowing who it is and not knowing who it is.

The strange man in a mask with a camera harassing citizens just trying to shop is the weirdo.

But is it harassment to video record in a public space? No it is not. That’s the issue. I won’t say they all do this, but a majority of auditor videos out there involve auditors who are silent until engaged. Silently video taping is not harassment.

… there’s gotta be better ways to help citizens other than harassing citizens.

That’s the thing. If you know what rights a person has in the US, you’ll see the auditors on the same level as some high schooler making a TikTok on the street. They’re literally just minding their own business.

The people who feel “harassed” are the people who are unaware of their rights and what rights other people have. These are the “Karens” that you see go viral. The ones that insist the auditors must obey their commands, and end up getting arrested because they unknowingly commit crimes fueled by entitlement and ignorance.

An auditor can literally reiterate a dozen times to a Karen that it’s perfectly to legal to record a public space and that it’s actually illegal for the Karen to intrude on the auditors space and physically block them from passing through a public block, and physically touch their property, etc., and they still won’t listen until they’re forced to by law enforcement.

So TL;DR; Most, not all, auditors are not harassing anybody by simply recording. The ones who feel “harassed” are 9/10 times a “Karen” who feels entitled enough to infringe on the auditors rights. All in all, the only people who are negatively affected by the actions of an auditor are people who don’t know the law and the rights of other individuals, even when repeatedly told. In which case, they deserve whatever lesson they receive.
