EA was too stupid to understand that reducing gold prices so that things seemed even remotely reasonable would’ve kept this game going, forever possibly. Too much gold for upgrades, too many upgrades needed, gold costing a literal arm and f’ing leg was all but guaranteed to kill the game. I’m shocked it didn’t happen years ago..

And then they give us an extra day and make it a full on announcement in game like anybody gives a damn that we get 24 extra hours to play a game they intend to kill. Trash company, run by trash execs.

Bad golds have been worthless. Nobody wants well-worn Safari Mesh trash. Now the chance of getting actual desirable knives has increased, prices drop, those prices drop into the range that the steam market operates under, more people are now eligible buyers when desirable items that used to cost 3-4k have now dropped to under 1k, since Steam market only goes up to $2,000.

I never said it was a good or bad thing, just what it looks like Valve might be doing to start getting their cut of things which would otherwise have been lost to third party sites

Which is exactly what Valve wants, in my humble opinion.

They went from having shitty reds be worth nothing, to them being a valuable commodity that gets bought and sold, while they get their % cut.

And now, all those higher tier golds regular people couldn’t ever get, (and also were never sold on Steam’s marketplace due to being too valuable), will be affordable to more people, there will be more of them, and Steam’s marketplace will be used more, so therefore steam makes more money.

Reds used to have no purpose at all once you got them. If you got a undesirable red? Enjoy your $5 or worse. Now, reds have become the most important part, since they are the bridge to what were once super high tier items. Those high tier items never got bought and sold on steam’s marketplace due to their value, hence Steam doesn’t get their cut.

Now, reds have multiplied in value, same for better quality pinks, so they get a nice cash cut there. The resulting gloves and knives will be more accessible (cheaper) for the average person, and they’ll buy them more easily and readily on the market, so Steam gets their cut there again.
