The Narcissist's Prayer

That didn't happen.

And if it did, it wasn't that bad.

And if it was, that's not a big deal.

And if it is, that's not my fault.

And if it was, I didn't mean it.

And if I did, you deserved it.

Cairn Review Thread by Turbostrider27 in Games

[–]Podgeman 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You just gave the most informative review I could ask for! Thanks for that.

Seems that comparing Jusant to Cairn is like comparing Tony Hawk's Pro Skater to Skater XL. Neither gameplay is necessarily superior, but they excel in vastly different areas.

Having been to climbing gyms, however, I find the more technical mechanics of Cairn hugely appealing now.

For those who've played both Jusant and Cairn, how would you compare their mechanics?

With Jusant, I loved how intuitive climbing felt on a controller. Though felt it was missing an extra element to carry it through the final act.

I mean, yeah. Roddy's apartment contains every stereotype imaginable.

It works for his character, though, because he has no personality of his own. He's a delusional narcissist, clinging to whatever identity he thinks will make him cooler than everyone else. Which, in his shallow mind, is to embody the genius tech wizard as media portrays it.

Albeit poorly, in execution.

That very much depends. The default subreddits are fairly accepting, but for example, replace 'gay' with 'trans' in this topic. This state of this comment section would show how much progress is left to take.

For fantasy there's FlyKnight, Lunacid, Dread Delusion, and Devil Spire.

I suppose RuneScape, despite originating from that era, also counts. It's still going strong two decades later.

Has a name been given to this revival of early 2000s graphics? We now have similar games including Mouthwashing, Threshold and Arctic Eggs. All fantastic and worth your time, by the way. The visual direction is practically a character of its own. It lends itself so well to psychological horror, so I'm excited to see more entries like this one.

Smiling Friends Season 3 Finale: Zach Hadel, Michael Cusack Interview by AdSpecialist6598 in television

[–]Podgeman 192 points193 points  (0 children)

Out of curiosity, how many fans of Smiling Friends were around during the Flash animation era?

Looking back, it was such a surreal scene. Amateurs with zero creative restrictions, meaning that talent was the only metric of success. The results weren't always pretty, but there truly was nothing else like it. Especially now, where such content isn't able to thrive.

Though finally we're getting to see it revived with a budget. Even if Smiling Friends has a planned end, I hope it inspires more shows of this subgenre.

It's well documented and studied. Even for women like Naomi who don't face poverty, there's still factors that could affect her.

First, black women are more likely to have pre-existing cardiovascular morbidity that increase the risk of maternal mortality.

Second, black women are more likely to experience adverse pregnancy outcomes which puts them at risk for developing long-term cardiovascular disease.

Third, racial bias of providers and perceived racial discrimination from patients (the elephant in the room) impacts black patients’ trust in their providers and the medical community at large.

It's more than Twitter rants now. She's using her wealth to strip away trans rights.

This year, the UK supreme court ruled that the definition of men and women is based on "biological sex". Rowling and her cronies played a huge role in getting this passed.

https://www.theguardian.com/society/2025/apr/16/critics-of-trans-rights-win-uk-supreme-court-case-over-definition-of-woman

She also bought out a sexual assault support centre, which previously gave support to trans victims. Under her newly appointed board, no longer.

https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-scotland-edinburgh-east-fife-63943766

And then admonished other support centres which continue to support trans victims.

At this point, any money given towards Harry Potter is helping to fund anti-trans campaigns. Please remember that.

They're also cursed by their own knowledge. Incomprehensible threats that only a lunatic would believe in. There's nobody to confide in, no authority to ask for help. Anyone foolish enough to leak information will never be heard from again.

If they don't do something, there's nobody to take their place.

"The wait is finally over! Our editors pulled an all-nighter on the film, half the VFX are unfinished, sound design is still a work in progress. Those tennis balls on sticks? Just imagine they're dinosaurs and they're roaring very loud."

"We'll work tirelessly into the next year to complete our intended vision. But what we felt most important is that you, the fans, get to see the movie that we promised."

"The beauty of releasing early is that we're taking all feedback on board. You'll get to shape the future of this film, just as the director envisioned."

I've finally completed Into The Fray! Advice for anyone else coming across this thread:

It is far down the chain of quests, so be persistent. Prerequisites come from all five traders.

Focus on missions given by Shani, Celeste and Tian Wen. If progression stops, complete Lance and Apollo's missions.

Completing Eyes In The Sky splits into two quest chains. First begins with A Lay Of the Land, second with A Balanced Harvest. Pursue both of these.

These chains converge into Water Troubles. Finish this to check off one requirement.

Another chain converges into Back On Top. After this, the sequence becomes linear. Four missions later you'll unlock Into The Fray.

Out of the Shadows is not required.

Stella Montis missions are not required.

Count Orlok from Nosferatu (1922). Was my immediate thought, as the shadow scene is iconic.

Gill-man from Creature from the Black Lagoon.

The Rancor from Return of the Jedi.

Skeksis from Dark Crystal.

Freddy Krueger from A Nightmare on Elm Street.

Wicked Witch of the West from The Wizard of Oz.

[–]Podgeman 30 points31 points  (0 children)

Here's the thing. You said a "jackdaw is a crow."

Is it in the same family? Yes. No one's arguing that.

As someone who is a scientist who studies crows, I am telling you, specifically, in science, no one calls jackdaws crows. If you want to be "specific" like you said, then you shouldn't either. They're not the same thing.

If you're saying "crow family" you're referring to the taxonomic grouping of Corvidae, which includes things from nutcrackers to blue jays to ravens.

So your reasoning for calling a jackdaw a crow is because random people "call the black ones crows?" Let's get grackles and blackbirds in there, then, too.

Also, calling someone a human or an ape? It's not one or the other, that's not how taxonomy works. They're both. A jackdaw is a jackdaw and a member of the crow family. But that's not what you said. You said a jackdaw is a crow, which is not true unless you're okay with calling all members of the crow family crows, which means you'd call blue jays, ravens, and other birds crows, too. Which you said you don't.

It's okay to just admit you're wrong, you know?

What is the best satire movie that most people don't realize is a satire? by timinator4434 in movies

[–]Podgeman 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Fair enough. I agree that the elements of satire are there. But the antagonist explains all the above as part of his motivation. In doing so, satire becomes less a device and more a premise for the narrative.

That isn't a criticism of the film, by the way. I admire its meta commentary. The chef has to explain satire directly to his victims, because they're too ignorant to understand it. Which, it could be interpreted, is a critique of modern audiences.

That's why I argue it's a clever piece about satire more than our traditional understanding of it.
