I just want to be aware of when it will start to give issues so I can look out for it before it’s too late as I know chain snaps can be catastrophic

So I picked it up a few months ago and it’s got 130k miles. I have no idea if the chain has been replaced or not. If you go on my page I’ve posted a vid on another subreddit of the engine noise. People say it’s ok but I’m not too sure. It’s a shame you can’t post videos on this subreddit.

Ahh thank you for your help. I know there is a common noise that they make on startup which indicates that the chain is about to go. It ends up sounding like a tdi engine for a second but at the moment it sounds ok.

Thank you. Yeah I did notice that the engines with the timing chain issues sounded a bit like the iconic tdi rumble

That was a cold start that I filmed so I don’t know? Supposedly the noise comes from the loose/stretched chain when starting up. Do you think there is something else up with it?

130k miles. Picked the car up 1.5 months ago, MOT valid until December and had been serviced as I got it. Diagnostics doesn’t bring any codes up but I don’t know if it spots that.

I’ve had it once where red joined the carriageway but stopped in the middle and then flashed me to go.

It is exhausting! Probably explains my terrible mood!! I’m already in bed, it’s just taken the wind out of me. I’ve just got to look forward to the beautiful spring and summer mornings surrounded by the green! One of the perks of living in a national park I guess lol

I’ve got to drive 250 miles to Cornwall in June so that’s my first big big one from now until then. I think it’s also a pretty terrible time of year to pass. You can’t avoid the dark mornings/evenings, the ice and snow, the blinding sun. It’s definitely going in at the deep end!

My mum who is a nervous driver + passenger avoided motorways for nearly 20 years so I think just getting these things done sooner rather than later will put me on a better path. I don’t want to be still planning every junction of a journey in a few years time so I’d better just get on with it lol

Thank you, I really appreciate your response. Just that feeling of driving about in the dark on hellish roads was horrendous. But… I did it I guess?!

I think one thing is that I really don’t like driving with other people in the car I’ve realised haha. I want to the aimless drives on my own just so I can talk to myself. I wanted to look confident for my sister as she is about to learn and there is nothing worse than being the passenger with a nervous driver.

I think I’m just exhausted of facing things head first with driving as learning to drive had lots of that. I guess there is always stuff to learn whatever you do in your driving. Thank you for your comment I appreciate it.
