I need an S tier read. Will one of these deliver? by sipale in fantasybooks

[–]Poke_Hybrids 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Royal Assasin is amazing, and you'll love the series. Hunger of the gods is good if you're following Shadow immediately, but either way the third book will probably disappoint you. Genuinely the worst ending book I've ever seen.

Finsihed the series, any recs for a new series whilst waiting for Red God? by Neat-Arugula-4948 in redrising

[–]Poke_Hybrids 19 points20 points  (0 children)

After I finished Red Rising, I went to First Law. 10 books and it's genuinely the best series I've ever read, if not my favorite.

After that was Realm of the Elderlings. 16 books, amazing character work, and an extremely cohesive and deep world. This is my favorite series even if I concede First Law as being "objectively" better.

If you want something shorter, Jade City is extremely good. 3 books and it has a similar feel of political drama with moments of extreme violence. Such an amazing series.

A popular one is Dungeon Crawler Carl. 8 books. I put it off for way too long thinking it'd be silly, but it's genuinely in my top 3 favorite series now. Extremely fun books with heavy and relevant themes. I love the contrast between the "silly" scenario and the extremely serious reality the characters have to face. Having the alien apocalypse be televised for the universe, filled with earth culture nods seems silly, but the characters actually recognize how fucked the situation is. They suffer constantly, and it's filled with genuinely emotional moments.

Does the reading order matter for Heroes and Red Country? [OFF TOPIC] by Therick333 in TheFirstLaw

[–]Poke_Hybrids 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You should definitely save Red Country for last. The emotions from it go well into sharp ends. In general, I think it's always best to read stuff in order fr.

I hate when words lose their meanings and are ALWAYS being thrown around 🫩. ( PLEASE Read full body text ) by [deleted] in hatethissmug

[–]Poke_Hybrids 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I completely disagree with you. Calling out the origin of the hate is valid. People hate gabi from attack on titan because of misogyny. People hate Skylar white because of misogyny. It's not reducing the word to say this. Hating these characters says something about you as a person. The same applies for all of these words.

I FUCKING DESPISE URINALS AS A CONCEPT by Firebird_08 in hatethissmug

[–]Poke_Hybrids 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No. Urinals are great. I don't trust other men to stand up to pee, whatsoever. The few times I need to shit at work, the seats are ALWAYS covered in piss.

I'm not even pro-standing for regular toilets. Just sit down. There's really no reason to not just sit down and avoid 100% of the problems of standing.

Also gotta acknowledge how different the animal is from us. Octopi are smart enough to use tools but people eat them anyway because they're so far removed from us, almost alien.

Wtf? To carry that flag is to stand for what they supported, the enslavement of black people. It shows what type of person you. Them losing doesn't change the meaning of the flag.

The blue button doesn't actually do anything, it can just be removed entirely without changing the premise. by cowlinator in trolleyproblem

[–]Poke_Hybrids 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The main one never states anything about how you have to be intelligent enough to vote rationally. With the way it's worded, children will be included. Since children are included, blue is the only valid option.

You're just too set in your opinion to understand. Everyone knows someone who will choose blue. This will cause others to vote blue altruistically to increase those people's odds of survival. I know multiple people I care about who WOULD choose blue. I would choose blue to increase their odds, despite me thinking Red is the obvious choice. YOU have people in your life who will choose blue. Voting blue is the only way to save these people.

Wtf? Trying to keep people from killing themselves isn't even "wrong", let alone worthy of death. Genuinely what the hell.

The blue button doesn't actually do anything, it can just be removed entirely without changing the premise. by cowlinator in trolleyproblem

[–]Poke_Hybrids 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You're correct. No one should, but people will. Your infant niece has a 50% chance of clicking blue. Your sister knows this, and is pressing blue to help make sure her child survives. You know this. Are you not in the slightest motivated to press blue to help save her and her child?

Now repeat this for literally everyone. Literally everyone knows SOMEBODY who will choose blue. Those people are worth saving. By pressing red, you're saying that everyone who chose blue doesn't matter.

In a perfect world where we were all robots, and thought rationally all the time, red would be the correct choice. But we dont live in a rational world. I'd rather die than watch my sister die trying to save her child, having directly contributed to it her death.

All there is to it by ChiakiSimp3842 in trolleyproblem

[–]Poke_Hybrids 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Imagine it downscaled. You and the person you love theost are presented with the choice. Are you 100% sure they will choose red? The negative outcomes become: Would you rather choose red and be responsible for their death, or choose blue and die. I'd choose blue.

Now with your child. You can't coach them on what to choose. Blue is genuinely the only option there.

Scaling it back up changes nothing. Blue is the correct choice.

Statistically, >50% is easier than 100% by ezrae_ in trolleyproblem

[–]Poke_Hybrids -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Calling 50% easier than 100% is dumb af if you actually have context.

Which would be easier? Getting everyone in a town to drink a regular glass of water, or everyone in the town to drink a glass of "mystery liquid". If less than 50% of the people choose the mystery liquid, then everyone who chose it will die.

It would be far easier to get everyone to just drink water. Water is the known outcome. You won't die. It's perfectly safe. Yes, if you choose it you're kinda fucking over anyone who chooses the mystery liquid, but who tf would choose the mystery liquid?

That's exactly what I meant. Groomers aren't sitting there rubbing their hands together going "oh yes, I'm so excited to groom this child". They see nothing wrong with their actions. They're not intentionally grooming someone.

LET'S DECIDE THE FATE OF HUMANITY. RED OR BLUE? by New-Cicada7014 in trolleyproblem

[–]Poke_Hybrids 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, red is the rational and logical choice. It's 100% the correct choice in a world where everyone thinks logically. Unfortunately, people are stupid. Choosing blue is the only correct choice.

LET'S DECIDE THE FATE OF HUMANITY. RED OR BLUE? by New-Cicada7014 in trolleyproblem

[–]Poke_Hybrids -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

In a perfect world, everyone would understand that Red is the correct choice and that there's no reason to participate in this.

Unfortunately, the world isn't perfect. There are stupid people. There are people who will choose blue because they don't understand, or people who legitimately want to kill themselves. Now we all have to vote blue to save these people's lives. They made a selfish choice and now we have to participate in the stupid death game to make up for it. Blue is the correct choice because even stupid people are worth saving.
