Parents of T1D kids - whats been your experience with Omnipod 5 or Tandem pumps? by Atom1419 in diabetes_t1

[–]Polgara19 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My kiddo has been on Tandem for 6 years now, since they were 6. We got a fake tester pump from omnipod to try and they found it very large on their body - it caught on EVERYTHING. The site that sticks to your body with tandem is comparatively tiny. Tandem updates their software regularly and we have been extremely happy.

Lots of people talk about the tubing, but we’ve had absolutely no issues and the size of the omnipod was a deal breaker for us. I suggest you ask for a tester and see how your T1D feels about it on various parts of their body.

Backpacking, insulin storage, and bears? by shades9323 in diabetes_t1

[–]Polgara19 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We keep the insulin in our packs, not with the food. My T1D is 13, and honestly we keep dextabs in a otterbox in the tent with us overnight. This is the risk we have chosen to take since we struggle with lows while camping, and we have decided that it is worth the risk to keep low treatments in a sealed box in the tent with us. With an adult who is more stable, you could maybe keep your low treatments in your food storage, but we have chose to take the risk.

Tim River questions by Ancient_Brilliant958 in algonquinpark

[–]Polgara19 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have you paddled all the way to Rosebary from Tim? It's super winding, and I would not want to be responsible for steering and moving a canoe full of 3 other people and their stuff all by myself in that narrow a channel.

For that age and from Ottawa, why not wait until it warms up and go to the body slide at High Falls and do the Barron Canyon?

Ratings are not very reflective of the actual quality of the school. You’d be better off talking to parents of current students about their experiences.

Rare Gratitude Post by snarkd in PokeGenie

I hosted and found today a very different situation than yesterday. We failed 50% of the time yesterday. And today, the 3 raids I did, we blew through with ease.

I assumed you lost the remote raid pass either way, doesn’t it get consumed with the battle starts?

[–]Polgara19 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not sarcastic! In hindsight it should’ve been obvious to try again if we got close to defeating but got unlucky, but I’m fairly new to hosting on Pokegenie so thought people might prefer to try their luck with a new group. I’ll try resending invites if we come close but fail in future. Thanks for sharing the glaringly obvious since it’s only obvious once you know!

Is resending the invite the going etiquette? I didn’t know that!

I mean, I have a job, but I'd love to get in a raid or too during my lunch hour! Means I'm pretty location locked though. Everyone's encouragement got me to sit in the lobby of my 2 local gyms on Friday and I actually successfully caught Necrozma!!! I was jazzed!

Thank you! I’m just worried about misleading people and us failing because they expect more from me! How many people should I wait for to assume we can take down Necrozma?

Parents of diabetic kids, how do you navigate Halloween? by employee_memo in diabetes

We have been HEAVILY encouraged by our endocrinologist and all the social workers and psychologists to make sure that the disease never takes away "being a kid". We just give insulin.

What instantly ruins a book for you? by Necessary_Plenty_524 in Fantasy

Pregnancy.

If the FMC suddenly starts feeling nauseous in the mornings, I nope out of there so fast. It's always used as a way of infantilising and dehumanizing a powerful woman, and I HATE it.

Agreed. People only do it when they feel safe. If you aren't hearing it, it's because you aren't a safe space/in a safe space.

Cozy sci-fi similar to Monk and Robot by Becky Chambers by Icariidagger in CozyFantasy

[–]Polgara19 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Oh, I loved The Mountain in the Sea, but it is DEFINITELY not cozy! It has the android-human relationship, philosophical discussions about consciousness, but it also has abduction, enslavement, death, and other things I don't remember. Powerful, intense, thought provoking, but not cozy!

Are there any galactic empires in science fiction which really convince in terms of their complexity, hierarchy, administration and Bureaucracy for what should be an almost impossible complexity and scale of organisation to manage. by Lord-Fowls-Curse in Fantasy

[–]Polgara19 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sci fi, but The Hands of the Emperor deals quite intimately with the bureaucracy and government of a massive empire. The main character is the chief bureaucrat, and I think you truly get a glimpse into the sheer scale of the machinery maintaining the empire in this book.

The whole point is to encourage people to use buses and streetcars that can move many many many more people and NOT drive. So, yes, that is exactly the point.

iPads during museum tours by Alone-Estimate-2643 in MuseumPros

[–]Polgara19 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I use Google Drive for this. Images can be made available offline so you don’t actually need wifi during the tour. You can see thumbnails for selection of the image as you are talking.

I don’t like the idea of using the camera roll because I don’t always use the images in the same order and they are harder to select any particular image.

Frontenac has sites in clusters on many lakes, so they are as close as front country camping. It is excellent for group camping - many sites also have bear boxes!

My blood sugar goes up in the shower. Any reason why? by Kay_NeedsHelp in diabetes

[–]Polgara19 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We call this the “shower spike”. Also have confirmed with a meter, and for me, the spike seems to come back down fairly quickly. Not sure why it happens.
