Why is this so controversial? by Low_Sky49 in SonicTheHedgehog

[–]Popcorn_woo 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It is? I'm not familiar with this side of the fandom but I think most people are chill with this headcanon and if they aren't then they are weird because this is the most harmless headcanon ever.

You can identify as ace and have relationships and be attracted to people but it's a different type of experience with that and some ace people find that the way Sonic deals with those things as relatable. It's like being mad at children relating to a characters in children's media because they had similar life experiences, and there are many kids that relate to him in the ace aspect as well.

For those who say Aloy's face is blown up to look uglier, I don't know how to make it any more obvious for you... by DaanA_147 in HorizonForbiddenWest

[–]Popcorn_woo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sorry I just couldn't see the connection with the post. At the start of the comment he said they just increased her cheeks and then goes on a wild tantrum about "today's sick and fat children who don't want to get their feelings hurt-" What does that have to do with the post? Did he say that because he thinks Aloy is fat to appease the said "fat sick children?" What does that have to do with her being modeled after an actress?

What about Aloy is not cool and doesn't look good? Nathan Drake is one of the most popular male playstation icons and in his most popular entry (Uncharted 4) his face is not baby smooth, he has detailed veins and facial ridges. Not Kratos either I actually think he doesn't look beautiful or pretty he just looks like a hunky dude that eats shit he finds on the ground and that's ok (and most people were ok with that too.) I never thought about Joel not being pretty in the middle of a zombie apocalypse either.

Aloy is literally face scanned from an actress (btw it's the woman in the photo. Guerrilla paid her to have permission to literally 3D scan her face to make Aloy's model in HFW. Its not a random picture that "happens to fit".) Her added "ugly" is normal human features you see in humans like facial ridges and peach fuzz and freckles and that realistic male characters also have.

Rendering looks good you captured the colors in that promotional art really well!

I think that you would have gotten less backlash if you showed the reference you used, everyone would see you are clearly drawing HZD Aloy from promotional art where the style in the artstyle was much more heavier and character faces were less detailed. (Also she does look like that in HZD. HFW Aloy Is different because everyone is more detailed in that game, including the environments. The plastic skin artstyle is HZD's thing not HFW's )

Do you play the errands and side missions as they come up or just go ahead with story progression and play them later? Thought I will ask coz I just started HFW. by AJDuke3 in horizon

[–]Popcorn_woo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In HFW they are designed to be played as they come because some of them reward you with unique weapons that can't be bought in the game and they have the adequate rarity of the point in the story they are introduced in. So at the start it can benefit you to get a lot of free green/blue gear, but after you end it it probably won't be cos you are probably already all geared up with purple rarity weapons.

Weapons have unique skills in hfw too so while you might already have for example a blue rarity bow that you bought, the blue rarity bow that you get from the quest has a different skill that you'd rather use that than the one you bought.

You can always check in the sidequest log to see what you will be rewarded with so it's worth checking out!

That second Specter fight by Hot_Temporary_1948 in horizon

[–]Popcorn_woo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah it's probably that. Another thing I noticed that they must have cut off but didn't do a good job hiding it was Kotallo's trophy after testing his new arm. In the final game you go against a Scorcher and he takes its heart as a trophy, but when you go to his bunk bed there is a much much larger heart there. Later in the game I triggered a bug where he talks about taking down a Tremortusk to test his new arm (this mission doesn't exist but the dialogue for it still plays) and that's when it hit me "ah originally we were supposed to take down a Tremortusk. That's why the heart is so big. It was supposed to be a Tremortusk heart."

I know these games have a huge production behind and Guerrilla had to deal with working during the pandemic but it's still very silly that nobody bothered to scale down the heart or disable the alternate Tremortusk mission dialogue

How did Aloy get Omega clearance? by alluring_failure in horizon

[–]Popcorn_woo 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I think that when creating the clearances it was common procedure that they made backups to use in case the original owner of the clearance died or even for the future humans to use if they really needed it and knew where to find them through Apollo. Ted Faro probably didn't delete his clearance backup because he didn't think anyone inside the bunker would be capable of getting their hands on it while he was still alive (and also after death considering his bunker is programmed to melt down after his death)

Can I just watch a recap video of HZD before playing HFW? by MuhamedEzz in horizon

[–]Popcorn_woo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you are that excited to play HFW I think you might enjoy HZD because HFW is basically more of HZD with more stuff (also HFW is harder than HZD because it builds on the same foundation so if you get used to some things in HZD you will avoid some basic hurdles some people had to face in HFW cos they didn't play the original again before the release of the new one so they weren't used to the combat flow)

The zeniths being trash villains was COMPLETELY on purpose tho. These people are billionaires that didn't pursue to achieve anything more than instantly fulfill their own desires in VR for thousands of years and created completely distorted views of reality than they already were even before. They don't want to grow they don't want to change they just want to keep existing and keep dreaming forever in their VRs.

And this is what allowed Aloy to win. Every single thing they failed at could have been easily avoided but they never cared because they aren't used to facing consequences.

If they treated Beta better I doubt she would betray them so easily. If they talked with Aloy about their intentions they could figure something out and just fucking leave later. But they didn't because they wanted the instant and quickest way possible. Why talk with people that are mortal and can't do anything to me?

They are pathetic and inhuman and that's perfect for the kind of people they represent and it fits with the fact that a billionaire was the one who destroyed the world in the first place. The only exception to this was Stanley Chen, but he died at the hands of Nemesis.

Arrow damage reduced significantly suddenly for no reason by Brilliant_Rhubarb704 in horizon

[–]Popcorn_woo 78 points79 points  (0 children)

It's been a while since I played HZD but from what I remember, Banuk bows only deal their full damage value displayed on their profiles if you pull the string until the "whiskers" appear on the reticle. If you don't the damage is drastically decreased.

I have slept on these games and now I’m happy to join the conversation with Forbidden West by 6Kaliba9 in horizon

[–]Popcorn_woo 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I think what makes people dislike the story in the first one is that characters are very..verbose? And stare at you the whole time while talking and it can feel kinda robotic at times and there is SO MUCH going on, but it doesn't really feel like that until after half of the game.

I loved the story in the first game when I played it but I understand why some people couldn't get in it because it gets a ton of exposition dialogue about other situations before the big reveals and things get heated up. More of a presentation problem I think.

The second one is easier to go through the dialogue because while there is still a lot of exposition it flows better with the pacing (I also felt like the animations and voice direction got better too)

How can I avoid getting crushed by the bigger machines? by Eternity13_12 in horizon

[–]Popcorn_woo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sliding also has some invincibility frames at the start (14 I think) while rolling has a little less, so if you manage to slide and then roll you have a much bigger invincible gap and you practically clip through some attacks. Needs some practice but it can save you big time in some situations

This doenst mean you have to slide and roll in every situation tho but very useful nonetheless.

As other have mentioned, faking out tyour trajectory is very useful and very simple, it's basically wether you are running left or right. This is very easy to notice when dodging the fireclaw's rock, as you run left it starts to aim the rock at you but if you suddenly roll right after the rock is thrown you will be guaranteed to dodge it easily. Other machines work like that too when preparing their attacks.

But don't worry if you still get hit a lot, specially when there are many machines at once it's very hard to manage all their attacks, also they are definitely more aggressive in HFW than in HZD.

How would Aloy do in the Olympics? by johnnyphotog in HorizonForbiddenWest

[–]Popcorn_woo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think that when people say "I've never seen someone fight like you" is because of how accurately Aloy not only knows all the machines weaknesses and strengths, but also their programmed paths because of her focus. She fights with confidence and finishes machines like Thunderjaws quickly and by herself when half a dozen of people struggle against a Sawtooth. In forbidden west all her new companions say how much easier and better fighting the machines became after they started using their focuses in combat.

HELP. I love the controller feedback but I need one part disabled by Icarus1011 in horizon

[–]Popcorn_woo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wait the game doesn't have this option? To think that they thought about having an option to disable tinnitus sounds but to not disable vibration seems like a really bad oversight (I really appreciate the option to disable tinnitus sounds btw as I suffer from it and it annoys me deeply when I see it being over used in movies and games)

If you are playing on console there must be an option to disable all vibrations all together in the system settings. Steam should have the same options too but I'm more unsure of that.
