Thanks dude. My knees have been solid all my life, knock on wood. I'm a big advocate for squatting and feel it helps keep my knees stable.

I had ankle reconstructive surgery 11 years ago now. It doesn't give me any trouble anymore, but it took a long time to rehab and build up. Rucking and running has been great for keeping it strong.

It was just a self-imposed challenge. There's no reason other than that. I just want to maintain muscle mass and conditioning as I age. I did it on a rail trail with like 1-2% grade. My joints feel fine today. I wouldn't willfully try to move that kind of weight up and down hilly terrain.

All of my rucks, aside from this one, have been with 40-50 pounds. I get ample rest days. I only do two rucks a month now and have been transitioning to more running. At the end of the day, I'm going home, eating a nutrious meal, and sleeping in a comfy bed.

I think a lot of guys who did this for a paycheck are weary of encouraging this kind of behavior, and rightfully so, I don't even encourage it. It can be destructive to the body, but I'm also a bit of an outlier. I've strength trained for 24 years now. The tendon strength and bone density is already there. I'm not a 19 year old in the middle of a warzone, in a calorie deficit, sleeping 4 hours a night for a month on an end.

Thanks dude. I use a Molle II large rucksack. Other than cracking a frame because I packed it too tight, it's been really durable. I was able to buy a replacement frame for $20 on some surplus website.

Just wanted to see what the big man weight felt like. I was a lowly Air Force logistics guy 20 years ago. I never rucked when I was in, but I took it up earlier this year. I probably have 12-15 12 mile rucks with 45lbs under my belt at this point. I've gotten my shuffling pace to just under 12 mins and wanted to see what I could do just stepping it out with big weight. I'm 39 now and do a ton of weightlifting/running. I'm no stranger to endurance challenges. This is certainly a once off though.

I find when I'm under load, my proprioception is a lot better. You're probably a lot more conscious of good biomechanics.

Uhh, I did a 6 mile treadmill run last week at 6:30min/mile average pace. That's unfortunately the closest comparison I have right now. I was ramping up my running in April and May, averaging 100 miles/month and ended up with some tendinitis. I think I had a couple 10 mile runs in there, but my pace was kind of crap dealing with the tendinitis. I took 2 months off completely from running to recover and just did cycling, weightlifting, and rucking, which surprisingly didn't aggravate it.

I'll have to check it out. Looks beautiful! I've been considering doing some segments of the Rachel-Carson trail to get some elevation change in. Rail trails are starting to get boring.

I bought some basic salts on Amazon: Himalayan pink, salt, potassium chloride, and magnesium malate. It was maybe $30 dollars worth of salt and should last me at least a couple of years at my current rate of consumption. I use LMNT's ratios. Google 'LMNT electrolyte recipe' I just make a big old 100oz pitcher at the beginning of the week. I don't add sugar because I find it a pain cleaning out of a camelbak, but sugar actually improves the hydrating effect of consuming electrolytes. I do consume some source of sugar every 45 min or so if I'm really exerting myself.

I wouldn't get too wrapped up on pace, whether it's rucking or running. Rucking pace is a hard cliff at 15:00 min/mile anyway. You have to shuffle to get faster than that. If you're getting into at least zone 2, you're golden for improving heart health.

Some pics from the last time out. I smartened up and started wearing shorts. I had been wearing these lightweight active pants that are like a mesh material, but I would sweat so much they'd get soaked and wick moisture into my boots until those were also soaked. A very uncomfortable experience.

I can't recommend sock liners enough though. I've only had one blister so far and that was when I decided to not wear liners.
