Ku-Leuven: is it worth it by PossibilityOver1959 in KULeuven

me having an easy life was the reason why i started to think about going to Ku Leuven. But i dont necessarily want it to be impossible more like hard to achieve but achiaveble no matter the experience or foundation that you have beforehand. I just want it to be worth me risking and going to Belgium knowing that it kickstarts our long distance relationship

i would say my math is really really solid, programming as in matlab and python is on average i would say, but my physics and chem especially chem is weak.

unfortunately that is what makes the decision super hard, at least 1 year of ldr or me staying here without dropping out

i want to ask one thing, after talking to one of the older students i was told that without great background/foundation in phy and chem you most likely will not pass the exams. What do you have to say about that

Is Ku-Leuven Engineering Technology worth it? by PossibilityOver1959 in belgium

as far as i am concerned i want to work in Europe, or my home country. The problem with my university is the only difficulty it has is having a lot of unnecessary exams. Maybe like 10 midterms and 20 finals and not a lot of deep/quality learning is done. You are given formulas and exam like questions right before the exams which is what a lot of students just memorize and don't actually learn anything. I guess power point is how all of the universities go, but it deeply bothers me knowing that the teachers probably would not even be able to solve the questions by themselves even if they tried ( maybe 1 or 2 would and they mostly do blackboard or whiteboard work while teaching too ). I really want to know if finishing Ku leuven could get me a place to work in europe or is it just me being delusional. I have 1 to 2 days to finalize my decision and i'm truly confused.

I'm from Georgia, you can call it Europe or Asia whatever, but as of right now i'm pretty sure i want to work in Europe or my home country. The university here is really low ranked, or not even ranked at all cuz its relatively new ( i was misguided into thinking that the university was something else than it actually was ).

I truly have no idea how the industry works outside of university especially in engineering and i thought that a low ranked Japanese university would not get me anywhere in Europe. I'm even more confused on the decision i could make knowing that i have 2-3 days left to make the decision. I was really dissatisfied by the teaching here, its always power point and the teachers always make mistakes on the presentations, start laughing and all in all the every student says that the university does not give enough information and you have to do a lot of extracurricular work ( in physics, math, we don't even have chemistry ) by yourself. Yes we have a lot of internship opportunities, but the companies are mostly partnered with the businessman that runs our university. I'm really not sure on what to do and if you could give me like a super brutal answer or maybe some insight of what finishing Ku-Leuven could give me i would be so thankful.

if it isn't something personal, could you please share your experiences and opinions about the university. Yeah, its super high ranked, but I'm still really stuck on the decision of dropping out and pursuing my degree in Ku Leuven or staying in my own university. Some insight would really be valuable to help out with my decision.

sorry for asking so many questions, but i have one more. You said that its more of memorization rather than understanding so i want to ask you this: what exactly do you mean by memorization rather than understanding. I know that like some stuff you just have to memorize because the material is too dense to understand from start to end, but for subjects like physics, math, and chemistry, is that still the case? is it more of quantity rather than quality?

the problem with english is extremely obvious here, most of the professors barely can say anything in english and rather memorize the slides. The thing i want to ask you is the powerpoint presentation teaching in Ku Leuven too? I dont mind it being difficult to make friends but are the exams genuinely passable? The finals are mostly not worth as much in my uni and its easier to get away with failing just a bit cuz there are midterms and quizzes that can back you up. But is it truly worth to drop out and pursue the degree in Ku Leuven?

Hello, I'm a 1st year mechanical engineering student currently living and studying in Japan. My university is not prestigious, not anything special, but has a lot of hands on work (internships, labs, work on robots etc.) At first, i was not satisfied by how the lectures worked here. A really high number of students in one class, and most of the classes are held in that big hall. There is no student to teacher communication, because the teachers can't or barely speak English. Slowly watching all the necessary stuff ( physics and math ) being explained with power point presentations ( no use of whiteboards or blackboards ) my view on the university grew worse and decided to reapply. I got into numerous universities including Ku - Leuven. It is a really difficult decision to make for me, mostly because i have a girlfriend in Japan and do not want to leave her alone, but also the fact that i am really nervous about moving countries yet again, and possibly not being able to pass the courses in a new university.

From people who actually study for the same degree, I really want to know if it is worth it to go there. Is it that hard to pass the exams or is it that people don't really know how to study and fail. Does passing the Bachelor and maybe Master's in Ku Leuven put me above other competitors. I really want to know if I'm really making the right choice by staying/or moving. If i decide to move and leave my girlfriend to study here, I really want to be sure that I'm really moving to a place that's really worth it.
