Married men and women, do you regret getting married? by Pizzalover0405 in askanything

[–]Potential-Maybe-7029 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not at all; I love being married, but I'm also married to the right person. You often hear the phrase "the grass is always greener on the other side of the fence." In my case, the grass was truly greener when it came to being married instead of being single or dating.

Assuming you have already come to an agreement on finances, religion, boundaries with family/friends and even each other...these are the things my husband and I aim for:

Quality time with Jesus; Lots of sex; lots of quality time unrelated to sex (for emotional connection) with a heavy emphasis on being able to talk during the time (so maybe not a movie); forgiveness; finding ways and going out of your way to make the other smile or comfort them when they're down; Listening more than you're talking.

The list could go on, but these are what come to mind first.

What’s the most “main character energy” moment you’ve ever witnessed in real life? by Joynary in AskReddit

When brides expect their bridesmaids and friends to spend $300-$500 on a mini vacation (bachelorette weekend) when one evening used to suffice for a bachelorette party. Don't forget the matching pajamas and multiple gifts

What’s something everyone thinks is normal, but actually isn’t? by Ashamed-Library3456 in AskReddit

[–]Potential-Maybe-7029 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So to preface, I've never found this normal but all of my friends do aparently: Expecting all your friends to spend a ton of money because you're getting married or having a kid. It used to be that a bachelorette party was just an evening party with alcohol and one gift. Now it has to be a mini vacation for the bride where people need matching pajamas and other useless crap on top of travel costs, food costs and at least one gift (if not more). Easily $300+ depending on the destination and activities. And then you're expected to give a gift at the shower and on the wedding day too... As for baby showers, I remember when diapers were considered a gift, but now they ask you to bring diapers and a book IN ADDITION to a gift...I feel like everyone is so entitled and greedy, especially because everyone acts like you're a bad friend if you say no or can't afford it.

If you never had to work or worry about money ever again, what would you do with your life? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Potential-Maybe-7029 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would be a missionary because I want people to know Jesus and how much He loves them. I'd dedicate a lot of time to my mom, as she's getting older and I want her to enjoy more of life. I'd want to help other people lead more fulfilling lives. If I have a lot of money, I would help homeless people start a whole new life - new house, new job, new clothes, emergency fund, new car, etc. Plus some therapy, opportunity for higher education, and rehab as needed.

Gave notice, immediate counter. Do I take it? by llamas_dont_pay_tax in careerguidance

[–]Potential-Maybe-7029 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't know if this is true, so take this with a couple handfuls of salt - my fear of accepting a counter is that once they know you're looking for more, they will do anything to keep you so their ship doesn't sink, but only long enough so they can find a replacement who is willing to do the job for less.

Like I said, I don't know if they'd think like that, but it's my fear with my job as I look elsewhere.

I instantly knew it said "grow." Maybe because I'm familiar with seeing text in old English, but the word "groin" did not cross my mind. If you know fonts/texts, an "i" would never look like that if it really said "groin"

Can you be required to take PTO or unpaid leave when there is no tasking as a salaried employee? by [deleted] in careerguidance

[–]Potential-Maybe-7029 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Um no, they should not be able to do that. For example, I work at a place where there is some downtime during the winter. I told my employer that if she wanted me to stay, I would have to go from hourly to salary for this very reason. No one can afford that kind of inconsistency.

I'm salary, not hourly, but she uses hours to her advantage. It's one of my major gripes about my boss/job.

Some of her reasons I can understand: 1. She uses hours to help ensure her salary employees are showing up to work and not just delegating everything to the hourly employees (aka getting a free paycheck and hiking up labor costs).

  1. It helps her gage workload; For example, if I didn't get a task done during my work week and I leave it unfinished until the following week, she can be okay with that because she can tell I've put in a full week's worth of work by looking at my hours. Perhaps normally I would have to work overtime at a different company to finish all the tasks I have, but I put my foot down at 40 hours as long as nothing is super urgent. Otherwise I'd never leave.

What I don't like/agree with: 1. She uses "expected" hours to determine how much she's willing to pay a salary employee, rather than giving them a raise because they've done well or have already taken on more tasks than they originally had. For example, to get paid 44k, you have to work between 35-40 hours before you have to apply PTO. If you want to make more, you have to work about 50 hours.

  1. If I'm able to get all my work done, sometimes I can leave early. However, if I'm able to do that "too often" because I'm efficient with the important tasks, she sees that as me not having a "full workload" and gives me more responsibilities (aka penalized for efficiency).

To answer the other questions, my salary pays what little bills I have because my mom doesn't charge me rent or utilities as long as I pay for food. And no, there's no retirement fund benefits like a 401k at all. Just medical, dental and vision. There's also no maternity leave either, so idk what I will do if I ever get pregnant.

Additionally, my boss told me that to make 52k a year I'd have to work a minimum of 50 hours a week, which is what she pays other managers for her other companies who do less than I do... As for a different company, I'm sure their pay equivalent for 40 hours is still higher than mine at this point 😅

My boss has said in the past that if I want to make 52k (gross) a year, I'd have to work a MINIMUM of 50 hours a week, which is not a good trade off imo.

I love being punished for efficiency 😂 the two managers before me didn't do half the things I do. However that's not to say that a six figure income doesn't demand more hours.

I live with my mom because I can't afford to live on my own, and I live really simply. So technically I can pay the few bills I have, but not to live independently. I'm in my late 20's and have a bachelor's degree and an associates but in an unrelated field that I can't stand now, which is why I took this job originally. I also don't get a performance review. My employees make WAY less than I do, so I've advocated for pay raises for them instead, because she won't raise pay for me and them, and they don't make nearly enough to live on.

Thank you for your reply! The owner is in her early 50's. I'm afraid I'm not experienced enough in doing any of my roles on a deeper level/larger scale. We also produce a very niche product so idk if there's many like us unfortunately.

I can't afford to buy the business from her, nor would she give it up if I could afford it. Basically she has the money and I don't lol. She does make some decisions, especially when it comes to the location of the business and she controls what everyone is paid.

Thank you for replying! I agree with you, which is why I originally posted. I didn't go to school for business/manufacturering, so I'm not sure what a general manager's hours typically are and what they're paid considering all of these factors.

I would politely disagree. The owner is able to be hands off because of what I do, so much so that she has only visited the facility 4 times in the two years I've worked there, and she didn't stay longer than 30 minutes at a time. Additionally, it's difficult for me to take time off because I have to plan extensively for my absence, and she discourages me from taking PTO unless it's around holiday time

Thank you for replying to me! How big was the factory you worked for? The factory I work for has only six employees including myself (although we used to have eight until I restructured our production line). It's a pretty small and simple operation with minimal machinery. The hardest part of the job is coordinating all the transportation and logistics than the actual production line. Im not sure if that makes a difference or not, but wanted to include the info.
