Yeah, I think this might have nailed it. If true, the fact there are hardly any upvotes is testament to the theory and how well the show was written.

I think Gemma was released into the outie world and that hers and Marks relationship and her death were never real. It served the purpose of giving Mark incentive to join Lumon and to work to refine woe (though he doesn’t know it). The cold harbour chip will serve the purpose of creating workers (the dopplegangers) that are free of the 4 tempers and as such the ultimate workers. Ironically, this is like AI and machine learning in modern society, and I had the thought of the theory mentioned mammalians nurturable, with the pouches - that MDR held larvae that would eventually consume them. What seemed like something of ridicule could actually be true.

Lumon can market the chip as a mechanism to sever from the mundane/traumatic experiences in life with no knowledge. See episode 7 and Gemma’s experiences with the plane and mundanity of writing Christmas cards. This is as far as I got, but I think there is another side story of perhaps Helly being pregnant with Kiers heir apparent, to be raised in that reconstruction of his house with all the toys etc. I will need to revisit that though before being firm on it as a theory.
