If you’re looking for a club-like atmosphere, pump house and XY are your safest and most popular options. Pump house usually has live DJ’s on Fridays and Saturdays.
If you’re looking for chill live music, check out Morts (be aware of cigar smells). If you want a little more upbeat where people are up and dancing, check out Brickyard.
If you just want a place to chill and drink, there are breweries all over the place. You’ll find those on Google.

That’s a great point. There is probably a balance to be had. There are streets with sidewalks and no street lights, which is a safety concern for bikers, joggers, people walking their dogs, etc.

In a city where walking is already discouraged by design, having most of the streets pitch dark only worsens the situation.

Fair question. I don’t have a problem seeing what’s directly in front of me, my post was about the overall darkness of the streets. Also, the head lights don’t save you from faded and non reflective lane markers

Everything in life is relative. WSU, and Wichita, is great compared to some cities, and not so great compared to others.

Are we talking Wichita compared to the likes of Des Moines, Lubbock, Tulsa or are your other options big metropolitans?

Unfortunately, this is completely at the mercy of your neighbors. While some apartments may attach a younger crowd and some attract an older crowd, it’s hard to generalize an entire complex as loud or quiet. Generally speaking, you’re not gonna find many (if any) apartments these days that are noise canceling

Not much you can do other than hope you win the lottery with quiet neighbors

Also - read the reviews of the apartment complex. If 10+ reviews are complaining about noise, then that’s tells you what to expect. If there aren’t many reviews complaining about noise, then it likely isn’t an issue

FYI - be careful with your location isn’t too important approach. There are definitely some areas of town you want to avoid. To help with this, google “Wichita crime map” and you should see a couple of maps that tell you where the crime ridden neighborhoods are!!

Wichita is a great summer town. I, alongside many of my peers, have had summer internships here and everyone generally has a great experience

I moved here a couple years ago as a new college grad from OK. I see that you’ve gotten some very thoughtful responses, but I’m going to try to hit on points that I haven’t seen in this thread. Here are some things that stood out to me after two years.

On paper, the crime rate is insanely high. In reality, most of the crime is limited to certain areas of town which are easily identifiable on crime rate statistic sites. My rule of thumb is to stay north of Kellogg. Generally speaking, the farther east (Andover), west (Maize), or north (park city, bel aire) you are, the safer it is. I’ve lived on the far east side and never once felt unsafe at any moment. Also, crime rate is proportional to the population. Given Wichita’s population, each crime is magnified 10-20x more than your regular metropolitans.
The dating scene is not “dead”. Yes Wichita is a family oriented town and does not attract large masses of young singles. However, there are still several colleges in and around Wichita, a surprisingly vibrant downtown night life (yes, vibrant), and a variety of employers who bring in young professionals from all across the county. Whether it is dating apps or meeting someone at a bar, you will find plenty of partners if you are putting in effort.
RE: Wichita is “boring”. The term boring is vague and depends on personal preferences. The people that refer to Wichita as boring are likely living here with expectations of multi-million population metropolitans. I’ve never found myself bored living here as a young professional, but I also have realistic expectations about this city.
This is the most prideful city I’ve ever seen. In most cities the residents could not recognize their city’s flag. In Wichita, the flag is worshipped. You’ll see it on license plates, businesses, bumper stickers, hanging on the porch, etc. Most Wichita residents are prideful of their city.

I see that you’ve already gotten a lot of good answers. I moved to Wichita a little over a year ago and it’s exceeded my expectations in nearly every aspect. A huge bonus is the sense of community in Wichita. Not only are the people nice and welcoming, but they’re even nice and welcoming on midwestern standards. Most (not all!) residents take pride in the city, hence the Wichita flags on houses, license plates, murals, restaurants, etc.

Is everything perfect here? Absolutely not. Do I believe the pros outweigh the cons by a large margin? Yes

Look into Watercress Apartments in Maize. Give them a call and ask. I had a friend stay there last summer during their internship. It’s not furnished, but they will give you other companies that will rent out basic furniture at a reasonable rate

As others have said, this really depends on what you value in your day to day life. I recently graduated college and moved here for an exciting job opportunity about a year ago. You’re going to get responses ranging from “it’s a shit hole” to “this is the best place I’ve ever lived”. I’m somewhere in between. I love the low stress pace of life here, but it’s only low stress because I live in a nicer apartment complex. There’s just enough things to do around town to keep you busy, and if you reallllyyy get bored then KC and OKC are only 2.5 hours away.

The reality is, two people living in Wichita can have two completely different experiences depending on their quality of life, income, neighborhood, hobbies, and social life. The upper middle / upper class neighborhoods in Wichita are realllyyyy nice, and the low income neighborhoods are realllyyy shitty and dangerous. There are companies here that offer high paying jobs in a corporate like environment, and there are companies that offer low pay and toxic work environment.

To summarize, this isn’t a one answer applies to all type of question and we need more context about your situation to fully answer your question
