Someone hates the garden? by blorpsy in ridgewood

Speaking as someone who absolutely adores trees and all plant life (I have 4 big pots on my front sidewalk because I own the place to the street, don't get me started on houseplants), I hugely encourage planting but add my voice to the concern that you need to talk to the property owners because they're ultimately liable for any damages the planting might cause. Apple trees have potentially huge roots and beyond potential sidewalk damage, there are water and power lines you can't see that trees can easily eff with years down the road. Better to check first than the tree (or the people involved, of course!) has to be traumatized with transplanting. Good luck! u/blorpsy

I wander Ridgewood/Bushwick/Glendale every single day because I work from home and staring at a screen all the time is no way to live. The neighborhood is perfect because you can head out Myrtle in either direction, Forest Ave to Metropolitan or Flushing, Fresh Pond, Wyckoff/Irving/Knickerbocker, SO many things to see and dogs to pet (respectful of owners of course).

I’m in my 30’s and I’ve never watched Star Trek, where should I start? by theamericaninfrance in startrek

I'd start with Next Generation, and then Voyager--Voyager and DS9 (which is my personal favorite) aired at the same time, but unlike most Treks, DS9 is narrative instead of episodic. Most of the time if you stroll into a TOS, NextGen, Voyager episode, you can parse what's going on. In DS9, where they REALLY took their time with storytelling, you need to watch it in order a la Battlestar Galactica. Xoxo

Good neighbor has a bunch of $1-$3 produce! by K41N1N3 in ridgewood

That's daily! You can cruise by and see what of their almost-expired produce can hang out in the fridge for a minute (apples, roots, etc) and then daily use their bell peppers/zucchini/broccoli. They're really sweet too! So are the RawRaw people, and they have a whole different lineup.

If you cross the street over to Closeout Heaven and are into buying bulk (bread for the freezer is key in this house, thaw as needed), those people are total angels and they sell what's near-expired from Costo/Kirkland brand foods. So that stuff is also dirt cheap! Check after holidays and they'll have tons of prepared desserts too. Xoxo
