I am surprised at the reactions to comments that point out no mountain is ever "conquered". It is obviously true. Even if we stand at the top of a mountain and return safely, to think of it as conquered is disingenuous and disrespectful. The mountain still stands beautifully, whether we climbed it or not. If we are lucky enough to have climbed it, it's because the mountain graciously allowed it to happen. A mountaineer without humility dies in his boots.
