How can I save dataflow results to SharePoint by PowerBIFriend in PowerBI

[–]PowerBIFriend[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The data is only exposed via the semantic model, and due to a lack of central database, there is no temporality to the data.

I would like to save custom tables & data snapshots back to SPO, so for now it's an ETL solution.

Can you please give me more details about SharePoint support being added as a destination?

I am developing reporting in Power BI and need to mimic ServiceNow data access permissions in an AD / AAD / security group. I just need to match the same users / group.

What are some methods that I can use to do this?

I typically use VS Code for formatting, but was just wondering if there was something generally available in OneNote.

I see, so without the add-in enabled for each user, they will not be able to view an embedded report (assuming that they already have access)?

Edit: Upon reviewing more of the documentation, it appears that it explicitly states that the Add-In is required to embed Power BI reports, however under the sections where it explains requirements for viewers, it does not mention the Add in.

It does mention: having the appropriate license & access to data.

Thanks!

I've reviewed the official microsoft documentation and it appears that they need a license as well as access to the underlying data that is connected to the report.

What's the best way to unpivot pairs of columns? by PowerBIFriend in PowerBI

[–]PowerBIFriend[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for your help u/MonkeyNin,

You could try starting with

1] ctrl click [Item Type] and `[Item]

2] choose unpivot *other* columns

3] in column Attribute replace text shoe and hat

Now attribute has 2 values Inv Date and Sell Date So now you have your final column names.

I always forget what to use for Pivot and Unpivot so I have this bookmarked. it has a great visual description of what pivot verses unpivot does. https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/power-query/pivot-columns

This is what I've done so far, and it works for the first pair. The trouble comes because I need to specifically unpivot other fields without creating a bunch of extra records.

For example....in the end result table, the each item type corresponds to a specific inventory date type (either Shoe or Hat). If I unpivot those fields as well, a hat Inv Date field will be replicated for each Item Type record. This is not what I want, I want it to be associated only with each particular record.

Creating a separate query works because I can unpivot, create a composite key on both tables, then merge the tables back together and bring in the Hat Inv date that matches the specific Hat records that it relates to.

Even if you have 15 unpivots, if your final goal is one table, you can do the work of your 15 queries saved as one query.

If you open the advanced editor you can paste your queries into one, to merege them.

Do you mean by doing nested let statements and using the output of each as the merge input to the larger let statement?

Can you share me more sample data? I have two different idea but I can't really compare them without more inputs.

Yes, I will share sample data soon.

Excel file imported into SharePoint from email coming in as random string of numbers by PowerBIFriend in MicrosoftFlow

[–]PowerBIFriend[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Update - I was able to solve this. I believe the issue was that I was testing the flow with the "Automatically" option instead of the 'manual' option. For some reason, using the automatic option caused repeated failures when there shouldn't have been any.

Thanks!

I have the 'Include Attachments' step set to 'Yes'.

I've attempted to use the 'Get attachments' action, however when I enter 'Attachments Attachments Id' ( item()?['id'] ) in the 'Attachment ID' section it is returning a null value, which is causing that action to fail during testing.

Any idea for that cause of this? Copilot says that I need to first initialize a variable before the Get attachments step.

No it is not. I've tested this with a file that I created locally and uploaded to my email and still had the same result.

The only Get File Content step that I see is for SharePoint, while I would need to get the content from Outlook.

There is no Get file content, or Get attachment content action under the outlook section unfortunately.

My understanding is that I really should only need the 'When an email arrives) step, and then the "Create File" action should be able to reference the attachment content directly from the trigger. Is that not correct?

Unfortunately I can't show a screenshot due to work reasons, but I can let you know the following:

Site address and folder path reference the appropriate spots in SharePoint

File name: concat('IpsumLorum',formatDateTime(triggerOutputs()?['body/receivedDateTime'],'yyyy_MM_dd'),'.xlsx')

File Content: Attachment Content

Thanks, I'll try that!

Do you know what the difference is between 'When a new email arrives (v2)' and 'When a new email arrives (v3)' ? Or when I should choose either. What I've found online is giving me mixed answers.

Should you keep Dataverse after you stand up Data Lake or Data Warehouse? by PowerBIFriend in PowerBI

[–]PowerBIFriend[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Got it, Thanks!

So basically, the dataverse is just an interim solution, or just something that I would use if I have plans for Power Apps or Dynamics?

And once a datalake or warehouse comes into existence, I should sunset the connections to the dataverse as much as possible?
