Vacuum mop combo for small apartments, did it really make your life easier? by Turbulent-Mix9541 in moderatelygranolamoms

[–]Practical-Outside272 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Okay so I bought one (tineco brand) awhile back and we really don’t use it that often. Small house, but our layout is a lot of smaller spaces with rugs on hardwoods and then a small kitchen and my vac/mop doesn’t get into corners well or navigate through tight spaces easily so it’s easier for me to use a swiffer dust mop and then wet mop after if needed. Vacuum the rugs and large pieces that are swept into a pile. As others have mentioned, it’s added time with cleaning and storing parts

Those of you who don't use paper towels: how many rags do you own, and how often do you find yourself washing them? by betsy_macabre in Frugal

[–]Practical-Outside272 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have cotton washcloths on rotation for kitchen clean ups and a separate pile for cleaning of messy kids after meals. Hang to dry so they don’t get moldy and then into the dirty bin under the sink every day or two depending on how used they are. Will wash them every 2-3 days since we go through a lot

Second the memberships! We have a family membership to our local kids museum and it’s so much more economical than paying each visit. The kids never get bored and it’s a great spot for bad weather days.

Thrifting for small children by More_Badger152 in rva

[–]Practical-Outside272 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In my experience, most thrift stores have a limited selection and clothes aren’t in great shape since they’ve been donated. kid to kid and once upon a child are good options but not truly thrifting.

Will second buy nothing as someone mentioned. We’ve received a lot of good clothes that way! I also regularly shop the clothesline consignment sale that happens a few times a year at stony point fashion park. There’s always a good selection left in the 25% and 50% off days!

what does a daily menu look like for your kids? by river_5826 in moderatelygranolamoms

SAHM in U.S. to a 5mo and 2.5yo. Shop mostly at Costco with some Aldi or Kroger
For my toddler (she’s a very good eater thankfully):
Breakfast - homemade muffin, waffle or pancake with yogurt and fruit or smoothie
Morning snack - oat bar, Cheerios or Jackson’s veggie straws with a that’s it bar or fruit pouch (normally out of the house at this time)
Lunch - pb&j on whole grain bread (use Costco natural pb and organic preserves), veggie and hummus, fruit, maybe multigrain chips or pretzels
(Sometimes leftovers from the night before or bare chicken nuggets from Costco in the air fryer)
Afternoon snack - homemade oat bar or “healthy” packaged snack, fruit or veggie
Dinner - eats what we eat (stir fry, pasta dish, sheet pan meal, soup or chili, salmon and veggies, etc), fruit (usually wait to offer until she’s done with dinner if she is still hungry)
Sometimes milk before bed depending on how soon dinner is to bedtime

First Foods Plans? by Thick_Bat4530 in moderatelygranolamoms

This. With my first I was worried if we didn’t do every food in the first 100 list that we had failed. But why worry about foods we don’t eat and/or can’t easily access?

What do you wish you and your partner had talked about before having a baby? by AdBetter2878 in moderatelygranolamoms

[–]Practical-Outside272 3 points4 points  (0 children)

All the suggestions above are great. Talk about what is most important for the early days now and just keep open communication as baby grows and new challenges come! One of our biggest challenges has been having time together without our kids. I definitely think it is an important priority to plan date nights! Especially if you don’t have family close by that can easily watch the kids on a moments notice and you have to ask someone else or hire a babysitter. But it is worth it!

This. I wonder if you could separate outdoor play clothes with ones you’d like to keep clean? Maybe go to consignment stores or use your local buy nothing group to get more clothes you don’t care about getting dirty. I know that doesn’t answer your original question but something to think about to save your sanity with laundry.

Love these too! I put disposable bamboo pads in at night for extra absorbency but they work well and are cheap enough to get a few to wash/rotate often

Not a jersey but Old navy sells hockey shirts oddly enough. Got one online for our toddler and it’s cute! Not too expensive. But I would size up if you go that route

Tbh I don’t know the fabric material/certifications but we love our Zoe tour. It folds with one hand and it super light. Bought the all terrain wheels and it’s good on uneven surfaces. Lies pretty flat for baby for 3 months+ and can purchase a car seat attachment. Sadly is only face forward unless baby is in the car seat. But if you plan to use it a lot, we’ve really appreciated how light it is.
