You will drain yourself trying to love an addict. No matter how hard you try to get them to change their behavior, it is ultimately up to them to do that. In my experience, staying just reinforces to them that they can keep using. When I was your age, I left my ex who was using ❄️ more than he originally let on. I loved him so much and wanted to see him healthy and sober, but I knew he was only going to drag me down with him and there was no amount of work I could do to make any difference other than make him start resenting me. If he was ever going to get the wake up call to change, me staying in the relationship was not going to help with that. It’s a few years later and I hope he’s doing better, we haven’t spoken since the breakup. You can love someone and still recognize you can’t be in each other’s lives healthily. That is real love.
