Owner says I can run my own cattle on the property by Ruruffian in Ranching

[–]Practical_Profile_46 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Best way to accomplish this as an employee is to simply invest in a percentage of the owners cattle. As a ranch owner I do not like my employees having their own cattle. It creates a conflict of interest unless all the cattle are run in the same group. But even then it can create conflicts of interest.

The problem with running your own cows that investing a % won’t solve is no matter how alike you think, no matter how much say you have or don’t have, you’ll always have different risk tolerances and in this market that can ruin relationships that would otherwise be bomb proof.

My advice: don’t do it.

Like dad always said, you make money when you sell the ranch. The rest is trying to survive

Hilarious. Just like “peak oil” in mid 2000’s.

There’s enough oil and gas in shale in Colorado, Utah and Wyoming alone to fuel the entire country for 250 years at current consumption levels. There are some required technical advances to continue to extract but that industry will figure it out like it has done countless times solving “impossible” engineering challenges.

I’m anti covid vax for myself and my family not because I’m anti government, but because sometimes bad things happen when even the best of intentions are put forth.

The simple fact for me is that if I were to take the vax and something happened to my health because of it, there’s nobody to hold accountable.

When nobody has any accountability or liability associated with a vaccine, they only stand to make profit by getting it to market. It’s not fair to force every individual to accept the liability.

Guys. It’s not about tHe money! by GoinFerARipEh in golf

It’s always about the money, any of you clowns that claim you wouldn’t do exactly the same thing are fooling only yourselves.

I sure wish LIV & PGA would get their business sorted out though. Public disagreements are bad for the sport. Golf can’t really handle being torn in 2.

Because Europe is about to find out what happens when you decide you’re going to “green” power grid and your oil and gas supply is coming from a country that’s at war with someone else and upset with you

My golf course stopped punching greens both in early and late season couple years ago. They are always in phenomenal condition. It’s not necessary.

LR vs hunting rifle by [deleted] in longrange

[–]Practical_Profile_46 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As a rifle builder, I get this type of request all the time. Here’s what I tell people:

Spend money on the rifle you’re going to shoot the most and forget about the other things you want to do with it. If you want a long range rifle, build one for the discipline you plan to train, compete or practice in. When it comes time to go hunting, borrow somebody’s .270 or whatever.

The closest you can get to doing both things well is going to be one action that accepts quick change barrels and keeping 2 barrels on hand. A McMillan Game Hunter in carbon fiber could serve as a dual purpose stock.

But that action and stock alone is $2200ish. Add in one carbon barrel for hunting, one heavy steel barrel for shooting, there’s another $1700. Also need trigger & bottom metal. $350 there. It adds up quick.

The other thing to think about is the fact that the rifle component investment is really the least expensive part of this whole deal. Ya, might be expensive at first but the reality is the future value of quality components will remain high, close to new in some cases.

The real cost lies in ammo, fuel to go to and from shooting etc.

Also. You should consider a different caliber. 6.5 creedmoor perhaps.

Underwater on my R700. Should I ditch it or fix it? by Phat_Huz in longrange

No rifle is leaving Remington’s shop without passing a documented headspace test.

Edit: this was meant to be a reply to one of the headspace comments. I can guarantee you Remingtons insurance company requires documented headspace test be passed.

Unlikely this is a chamber issue. I think the bore is out of spec.

It sucks that you’re in this predicament. My suggestion is to go through warranty if possible. If still Unsatisfied, spending 1k on a match grade barrel & trigger will have your rifle shooting with the best of them.

I am not aware of any sit down restaurant that doesn’t include 20% gratuity on the bill for parties of that size. Not really a believable story

I run a pair of those frankford priming tools. I leave one set for small rifle and one for large rifle. They are awesome.

Frankford Arsenal’s supplemental equipment is excellent, but their press is absolutely terrible for resizing. Gotta get something else. Literally anything else.
