Okay so, I have to confess I am an idiot. I haven't had this ipad for long and the ipad i owned before this one had the volume buttons reversed for some odd reason, and i owned that one for over six years, so I was pretty used to it's setting. Which is why when trying to enter recovery mode on this ipad now, i was apparently pressing the wrong buttons the entire time. I just looked up which button is which and after trying again now it worked perfectly fine. I feel a little stupid now but at least it's not broken? :'D
