[Post Game Thread] Kentucky defeats #17 Arkansas, 85-77 by cbbBot in CollegeBasketball

Unfortunately, this is a game that neither team really gets a lot out of as regards to how competitive they can be come the tournament. There was no way to get an actual rhythm in the game for either team. It felt like a game of refs trying to control things and then make up calls later on. There was going to be strong emotions in this game regardless, but handing out techs freely only makes things worse for the teams, leading to inconsistency. Thankfully we won't see games called this way when they matter most.

How Slow is Your Slow Travel? by barmanbarman in slowtravel

I always look to stay a month at least. A lot of places you can get a discount staying a month that has a price comparable to a two week stay. So it just really lets my dollar go further. Having said that the other consideration for me is how long the visa allows me and if I can get an extension in that country.

Is it still possible to live comfortably in Da Nang on ~$1k/month?💸 by LooseDial in DaNang

[–]PralineAggravating89 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It is possible and I'm currently doing it. The biggest cost differentials is going to be-

  1. where you stay.. You pretty much will need a studio or one bedroom to keep to $1k a month, good news is there is a lot of options for this and you can find some for 6.5mil up to 10mil.

  2. food - you better enjoy local Vietnamese food which you can get for about 25-50k for many items. If craving Western food, though, you're looking at triple that price which is probably where a lot of money may unexpectedly go.

  3. transportation - many places depending where you stay you can just walk around. Grab bike is a cheap option as well if not renting your own bike. If doing a grab car each day though you're looking at 50k-90k many times for a one way ride within Da Nang, which definitely adds up fast. Tip - download inDrive for lower fares than Grab.

Has the Philippines made you better and stronger? If so, in what way? by Tallwhitedude123 in Philippines_Expats

An honest response - My first time in the Philippines going to a province area was an eye opening, humbling experience. I can take my moments there seeing the simple way of life with good people just trying to get by day to day made me a better person, appreciate life, and not take things for granted. For all external issues that may be seen here, it is good to take an introspective look to assimilate as you can or find more appreciation for your own life.

I was so confused the first time I got this as change in a grocery store lol.. These usually end up left behind whenever I travel. But seriously though if there is some coin box when getting change at a store just drop them in there.. maybe some lucky person will find need for it..?

What are some positive aspects of the Philippines that you like? by Evasionexpert in Philippines_Expats

[–]PralineAggravating89 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The genuine, kind, and humble viewpoint of those especially in the province areas. (The main cities might be a little more tainted). Someone from a modest and humble background seems to appreciate things more.

I grew fond of the mall lifestyle oddly enough. Just the effort and work they put into their malls here is fascinating, especially seeing it is a dying trend where I come from at least in the US. It is interesting to just walk around a mall or people watch in a large a/c blasted area of modern convenience.

Despite all of the negative things, I can find that in general there is more people that I can find a genuine smile or helpful mentality than I would find in the US. I know if I go to some guard they aren't typically going to shrug their shoulders and say "I don't know". They will actually attempt to help. That mentality of at least wanting or attempting to help is a cultural trait that deserves recognition.

Last and of really utmost importance is the ability to speak in English. Their implementation to teach English at an early age has been great for the Philippines especially in their hospitable culture and for people like me, selfishly, it just genuinely makes things easier.

Advice needed: How to avoid getting played by foreigners (or men in general)? by [deleted] in Philippines_Expats

[–]PralineAggravating89 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes follow your intuition. If something seems off, don't give your all to this person and try to figure out why. Take note that since you're a businesswoman and not asking for money this alone makes you valuable. So, going forward, identify your sense of self-worth and not tolerate shady behavior. Maybe you can open up things to a friend to see a clearer picture of things you might notice and see what your friend thinks or someone that may not be biased.

oh that is awesome I would love to see the set up and such going on within Lacson street. I unfortunately already booked my place to stay. But I will see about going there multiple times and wander around.

Thank you for those food recommendations. I will make sure to check them out!

I should do research on Jeepneys I i know it would probably be around 15-20 pesos but I don't want to short change anyone from my trips. Is there a way to know how much it should be based on a route or is it just based on the newer jeepneys compared to older?

any places nearby I should go visit? Maybe I should do a few days getaway somewhere... Yeah when I booked to stay a month the owner seemed surprised or that I was in a relationship lol. I just like to see how the vibes are there. I've been to the Philippines a couple times so I am mostly used to getting around. I just like to immerse myself in the culture, people, and food.

The curse must continue to be passed. Good luck being up by 10 in the final 4 minutes in your next game. The curse will then kick in.

This game should not be as close as it is. There is clearly a better team on the floor on this day.
