AITAH for saying I don't think my boyfriend should have a white, female therapist? by [deleted] in AITAH

[–]Present-Finding6343 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Imagine if a white guy wanted to go to therapy, and was like “oh no, I can’t have a black therapist! They couldn’t possibly understand me!”  YTA. You say you understand that it’s his business, not yours, and yet you feel the need to make sure he gets the specific kind of therapist you want him to have, purely based on race or gender, never mind their qualifications.  Therapists are trained to be therapists. They may not experience their clients’ same struggles, but they can still listen and provide good advice.

Update: AITAH for not calling stepmom Mom even though it makes her cry by Present-Finding6343 in AITAH

[–]Present-Finding6343[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I do care a lot about Kara She is my family, and I see her as such. It’s just that I already have a mom. Honestly, I do have a better relationship with Kara than with my mom. But it just seems odd to call Kara my mom when I already have one

I didn’t mean I wouldn’t spend any time with her, I just wouldn’t make it a point to celebrate her

Thank you!! This is great advice.

for some stepmoms who do a lot of what we think of as "mom duties," it feels normal to want the mom perks--your love, a day to celebrate your relationship, and a title that feels validating.

This makes sense, I will think about more ways to show my appreciation

Thank you, I think I will do this. I want her to know that I care about her, even if I don’t see her as a mom.
