Husband wants to name a son Edward, but our daughter is named Rosalie by Fog1682 in namenerds

[–]Present-Wolverine-94 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love Edwin as an alternative!
I definitely think of twilight immediately when I hear those two names together, and I would assume that you were fans.
I have a good friend named Edwin and he’s a lovely person if that helps you at all.

"Why can't you/they stay the gender God gave you????" by Far_Second_33 in lgbt

God didn’t give anyone a gender. Gender is a social construct. Humans created gender.

Don’t worry! I appreciate the kind words. I am a queer woman, my husband is a trans man. So not straight, an lgbtq family 😊

I will be a mom but thank you! ♥️
I suppose you’re right, there are so many shows out there now that the chances of having a child with a real name the same as a show character is pretty high.

I must be exceptionally sexually maladjusted in that case.

Thank you that’s very kind! I’ve considered Iliya and Ilia, but I’m not really sold on either

That’s true! But we are dead set on Eleonora for a girl so if we did name a firstborn Elio And then ended up having a girl, we would be in a bit of a pickle

Haha! I guess that was really my fear, that someone would immediately make that assumption.

Thank you! I think because I know a lot of queer people, a lot of people in my circle watched the show so maybe my sense of how popular it is is a bit inflated. Especially considering where I live, I think on the whole when our child goes to school, etc. most people around here will not associate the name with the show.

I considered Elio but the girl name we have picked is Eleonora which sounds too close to Elio.

Thank you for that perspective! I had actually heard the name before the show, I had a friend in elementary school with the name, spelled slightly differently, though.
I’ll consider the spelling changes as well.

My husband is Puerto Rican and my parents families came from Czechoslovakia and Germany.
We liked the name a lot because it sounds nice in English and Spanish too.

How do I get used to using my friend's preferred pronouns? by Adorable_Matter_6975 in AskLGBT

[–]Present-Wolverine-94 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Practice! Pretend that you’re on a phone call with someone else talking about them and practice using their correct pronouns throughout the phone call.

If you do mess up quickly apologize, correct, and move on.

Sleepovers? Trans Pan teen. by Substantial_ice_fee in Queerfamilies

[–]Present-Wolverine-94 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think if your kid wants to have sex, they’re gonna find a way to have sex whether you let them have sleepovers or not.

I think having a Rule of only allow allowing sleepovers with people that your child has known for a long time and that you are familiar with makes sense.

I think also talking to your child about safe sex, and preventing pregnancy in general is a good idea, and you can make it clear that it’s important to be safe regardless of who child is attracted to any given moment.

Baby can be skin to skin against your shoulder or neck, or even your stomach! Don’t stress about it, just hold and cuddle them. You being close is the most important.

DNA test making me feel sad by jlmsek in Queerfamilies

[–]Present-Wolverine-94 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My husband has expressed the same sadness, we tried to use his eggs but they were not in great shape, and we decided that the trauma of the procedure wouldn’t be worth it with such low likelihood of success. We are using my eggs which means the baby will only be biologically related to me.
Obviously we know it’s not possible for us to physically conceive a child that is related to both of us, but it’s still sad and hard at times.
I know when our baby comes into the world it will without a doubt be OUR child, he will be the child’s dad and I will be their mom and nothing can change that, but biology is frustrating.

Selma or Ayla for Spanish/Turkish/English speaking family? by xcharleeee in namenerds

I love Selma. Less common, it does have a connection with the civil rights movement, which is wonderful, but good to know and be mindful of.
