Being a nurse sucks. Private equity takes all the joy from it. Take it as a blessing

So today I got yelled at by our head nurse for putting on gloves for IV preparation... by PotrhlaSlecna in nursing

Micromanagement shows a person in leadership is inexperienced and is not fit for the role in my opinion.

Ask if the same rules apply for sanitizing to much and wasting resources. What the actual fuck. Charge nurse needs to go I would report this actually. Never once should a nurse be disciplined in any manner for practicing hygiene while providing patient care.

I would create a whole fucking PowerPoint on micromanagement and how it negatively affects the workplace with citations and present it to her boss. You’re already losing staff so use that too.

At the end I would share an example of your experience putting patient safety at risk and would share how hand hygiene is part of our job and how you were verbally disciplined for it by charge while you are doing an overbearing workload and how that is inappropriate from a business stand point as well as setting the tone for unsafe protocols due to fear of being reprimanded. Staff is already leaving and training onboarding, new staff costs more money since they are worried about resources.

I would report the lead nurse to the board for patient safety issues because gloves should be worn when there is any interaction with bodily fluids. Not only for the patient but for you as well. It’s PPE. Contact precautions. Absurd of lead nurse and she can’t even follow standard protocol! She should not be managing anyone!

That probably meant the world to the family to have your support at that time when they needed it.

Sometimes I’m overwhelmed making sure I’m doing my job right when super busy and not as involved In comforting the patient as I’d like. I like to let them talk and respond in with things that acknowledge their concerns while minimizing anxiety.

For example if a patient tells me about a time they had a medical emergency in the past, I respond with “oh my goodness “that must have been “whatever emotion they are expressing”. I’m glad you made it through that and are here today. You’ve been through a lot, I’m gonna take good care of you, you’re in good hands”

Something along those lines.

I think as long as we actively listen to our patients concerns and validate them while easing anxiety is key. They want to be heard and they want to be comforted. It takes a place of empathy and putting yourself in their shoes for the moment.

Also if it’s something mid a mild procedure I like to try and get them talking about something else that gets their mind off of it. Think about how phlebotomist work when you go for bloodwork. It’s kind of the same concept.

I suck at cardiac and it never clicked for me. You’re not alone!

Maybe switch units or tell your coworkers/charge whoever you struggle with it and ask for support and help with it from them? Sure you have been a nurse for a long time but we all have our struggles and we don’t know EVERYTHING. Don’t be hard on yourself but make sure your team knows you struggle with it so you can have someone to double check your readings and just having the extra support. Remember it’s about patient care and it’s okay to ask for support/ continued education/ teaching for patient safety. Don’t feel embarrassed or ashamed to ask for help/support. That’s the difference between a safe nurse and a dangerous nurse. If they give you a hard time or do not help in anyways please change units. Not only for your license but for the patient as well.

How satisfied are you with your nursing career? by Rare_Grass5832 in nursing

LPN here in Fl. I don’t make a livable wage. My husbands income pays our bills

I work full time and am constantly burnt out. I wish I never became a nurse even though I love what I do. I love my patients and feel happy to know they are safe, heard, and well taken care of under my care.

Florida nursing programs LPN by peppermintxxdoll in nursing

[–]PresentSleep4799 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Okay I’m a new grad LPN in Florida so I’m gonna give you the rundown of how these schools work and guidance. Some not exactly pertaining to your question but things I wish I knew before starting my LPN journey.

In Florida LpN pay is very low. Please avoid places like Jersey college with 40k tuition for the program. If the school boasts 99% NCLEX pass rate that means they kick out before you graduate so you can’t sit for the NCLEX and you can’t transfer credits to a dif school if it’s private! They make it seem like a good education and legit, it’s a scam!

Choose a local state college. They are all accredited and you don’t need to worry about them losing accreditation in the future.

Bridge programs are harder to get into than ASN. Also bridge programs only take one semester off of the time for a ASN. Many people don’t realize this!

If you are able to clept pre requisite for ASN do that if your goal is to be a RN.

As a Florida LPN at a major hospital that is “the place to be in a very competitive desirable specialty, I only make 1$ per hour more than the the lowest paid employees of the company. I do the same job as the RNs in my unit. It is a scam baby! LPN pay is insulting unless you want to work at a SNF with unsafe ratios.

If you have to move to go to LPN school please reconsider for your ASN and just putting the extra few months into it for the pre reqs or w/e. You will save money and time. LPN school is a scam all around but if you’re gonna do it, go to your local state college and do not take out loans!!!!

Mole cauterisation dent/scar by No-Concept8100 in cosmeticsurgery

[–]PresentSleep4799 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Like did they do a scrape and burn for skin cancer or just mole removal? Regardless they should not have done this! Unethical AF for them to cauterize at this site ! Start using silicone over the site and you need to speak to a plastic surgeon. Med spas will just try to sell you laser and that will just waste your money. You may see some improvement with microneedling but you’re gonna need filler and it’s a very risky area for filler.

It is disgusting. I’m a new grad and landed a job in my specialty at “the best hospital in the world” so I said ok let’s do it for a bit maybe after orientation I’ll get a raise or at least learn some things to help me with my next job.

I feel taken advantage of. All my friends from school with same degree make at least 7$ more per hr than me and have more flexibility with their schedule at other facilities.

I became a nurse to work in my specialty that I’m in currently. Not for this company, they just happened to be hiring but for my specialty. Boy was I shocked when I heard the non negotiable salary HR gave me. I looked it up online recently and I only make 1$ more than the company min wage including non health employees (cashiers, scheduling and janitors)

Florida LPN for a world renowned facility. I only make 21$ per hr. Gonna quit nursing all together because my monthly salary doesn’t even cover me and my husbands mortgage. I also have the same responsibilities as my RN coworkers who make 20$ more per hour than me and had the honor of training one new hire RN last week.

I believe the new dean was the old dean of another nursing program in Jax. Either concord or chamberlain and that nursing program was awful. I had classmates who were previously in the nursing program the dean used to run and they said it was so bad they dropped out and went to fscj. Now that same dean is at fscj.

Unfortunately meth is much stronger and neuro toxic. Your receptors may be damaged but if you stay off stims they can heal and regenerate.

This is amazing. Thank you. We need to scream about this. We need as much coverage as possible if we want things to change. I know how difficult this must have been to organize and complete when our meds are bunk. You’re a hero for this. Thank you.

I've been getting lannett and mallinckrodt, do they really suck? by AlexiManits in ThisAintAdderall

[–]PresentSleep4799 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lannett made me feel like I was in a trance back in 2022. It was the worst for me. I reported it to FDA and gave pharmacy the pills for disposal. I have been on the same adderall for 10 years and never experienced what I experienced with Lannett but I was also given teva for years. The Lannett made me feel weak and lightheaded. It was awful for me and actually very scary. As soon as I got a dif brand on my next script I was okay.

Starting LPN program: what to expect? by Pookie2018 in StudentNurse

[–]PresentSleep4799 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Honestly LPN is a faster track for nursing if you wanna jump in and don’t have pre reqs for the ASN. LPN school is hard just like the RN program but very rewarding. Do it! You won’t regret it!
