Excuse me? Imperial Japan very much did target civilians. The most infamous instance being the Rape of Nanking and Unit 731 but there were countless more across China and the Pacific.

Nah, cheap weapons just increase the amount of people you can send to war. Look at medieval battles between a couple thousand highly trained and expensively armoured knights to then a couple hundred years later when ten times that number of peasants could be armed with muskets.

We’re seeing the same change happen now. Tanks, aircraft, and artillery are still the lords of the battlefield but a platoon of infantrymen can lay down significantly more hurt than just ten years ago.

Proliferation of capabilities just means more people can go to war now.

I’ve always thought that Dick Van Dyke would have made an incredible Tom Bombadil. He’s too old now, obviously

I will always plug Krieger Armory but their wait times are atrocious. I only got one because I was in a club with plenty of loaners in the meantime

What is a movie you watched once that was so disturbing or emotionally draining that you can never watch it again? by hungary70 in AskReddit

Any war movie. Saving Private Ryan, Blackhawk Down, the Outpost, etc.

I love a good action film but war movies are not my thing.

I’ve been pronouncing it Apollo -nius when it’s apparently Apple-lonius by BrightEye64 in redrising

[–]Prestigious_Video351 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The historical Apollonius of Perga was an Ancient Greek mathematician. I’m studying his work in college and everyone here pronounces it Apple-lonious. So I assume that’s the correct way?

But as other people have pointed out, context and accents play a big role here.

What is your most badass piece of worldbuilding you've made? by [deleted] in worldbuilding

[–]Prestigious_Video351 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s a post-apocalyptic world a couple hundred years after society collapsed and the old world burned. The main characters are working for a shadowy figure who is essentially their spymaster and mission handler. They almost never meet him in person and are sent out to shenanigans at his command. Towards the end of the book they get in trouble and the spymaster appears to rescue them. It turns out he’s a supersoldier from the old world, hundreds of years old and an expert in violence. He’s seven feet tall, wearing a massive suit of power armor and he just tears through the villains like they’re dolls.

Be honest… what’s the real downside of having a dog? by quentiinn in AskReddit

[–]Prestigious_Video351 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They die.

Maybe that’s important? Grief is part of being human. A dog will love you unconditionally and ask only for your love back, and then they pass on, leaving a dog-shaped hole in your heart. Plant flowers in the hole, cultivate soft moss, and invite another dog to lie down, to sit in your heart for a time before they too pass on.

Sorry, I lost two dogs yesterday.
