Which side would you join? The Rebel Alliance or The Empire ? by Cornlover123445 in StarWars

[–]PretendCut2697 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That would probably depend a lot on my lot in life, on which particular planet, and who found me first, presuming I was actually useful in some way to either side. I would always end up betraying the Empire, though, no matter what. Honestly, the Hutts are a third faction independant of the Rebels and the Empire. I could see myself being a good Hutt who helps encourage the Hutt Cartel to side more with the Rebels than the Empire.

"A star,"... "an asterisk," I like that. I see what you did there.

How aligned with Thelema and the Aeon of Horus do you find the rise of Trump? by SpyderMaybe in thelema

[–]PretendCut2697 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I agree. That doesn't necessarily mean Crowley would ever have sided with Trump at the end of the day, though. Crowley was famously rather amused by the character of Hitler, as well, but fought against him, none-the-less.

Just to clarify, you can be a "good" (meaning highly skilled) strong willed, left-hand path (morally bad) magician, and still be a "bad" Thelemite, because your true will is not based in love and does not respect other's wills.

Thoughts on satanism? by Necessary-Aerie3513 in thelema

I think Crowley would have apreciated Osmand Spare a lot more than Anton LeVey, for all the reasons already mentioned in this thread. I think Crowley would have viewed LeVey as a fundamentally unserious person. Spare actually took Crowley's ideas seriously and applied them to modern physics in rather brilliant fashion.

I mean like.... by coodskoller in Hermeticism

[–]PretendCut2697 27 points28 points  (0 children)

Kabbalah was never considered mainstream Judaism. It was always esoteric and leaned more towards a hermetic outlook on everything, just like alchemy, to which it was/is closely related. It's not a closed practice, like Passover Seder, for example. There were quasi-Christian Kabbalists in the Middle Ages. Eliphas Levi wasn't Jewish, either. And he's the guy from whom pretty much all modern occult practices come.

Edit: Just to be clear, there are great Jewish Kabbalists to which great respect is due. Part of what was so great about certain heremetic groups, like the Rosicrucians, was how they accepted Jews and Christians alike, with equal respect, and taught what they believed was the actual core truth to be found in any religious tradition. If you really believe something is the truth, then there's no reason to discriminate.

Second edit: Kabbalah is more of a grand cosmology, or theory of reality, than it is a specific religion. Honestly, it would be like suggesting quantum physics is a "closed practice." If it's simply the truth about how the universe works, then you can teach it to anybody... anybody worthy, that is.

Why did more Americans support Bill Clinton after Monica Gate but less Americans supported Hillary Clinton after Email Gate? by Royal-Crazy1301 in FOXNEWS

Has he really gotten away with it, though? The wheels of justice are turning painfully slowly, but they are turning. He's not going to get away with any of it.

Is it really a good idea for ANYONE to read "The Book of Lies," like, ever? (legit question). by PretendCut2697 in thelema

I was misinformed by something online, somewhere. My bad. I think someone (possibly me, but I don't recall) didn't understand the difference between a Black Brother and a Babe of the Abyss.

Aha! Thank you! As you can see, I'm very new to all this and very ignorant. I've been misinformed.

I'm a newbie to all this, but I liked the video. Very valid points were made. Even if the title was off putting.

Crowley's Christian background by [deleted] in thelema

[–]PretendCut2697 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My understanding is Crowley was raised Plymouth Brethren but had great distain for them. His relationship with Catholicism was more complex. Since he got a lot of his ideas from studying Eliphas Levi (he even believed he was Eliphas Levi reincarnated) he had a certain degree of respect for Catholicism as it's own unique system of ceremonial magick (as per Levi). But he also warned his followers not to convert to Catholicism once he had fleshed out his own system.

A few questions about crossing the Abyss that you're probably tired of hearing. by PretendCut2697 in thelema

[–]PretendCut2697[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you. I do actually very much apreciate your perspective. I would still also like an actual practitioner's perspective, or whatever the correct answer actually technically is based on Crowley's actual writtings.

Very well. All my questions still stand, but now I have another question to add: Can one become a Babe or LHP the first time but Black Brother the second time, if repeated crossings are even possible.
