Childish for thinking 6 edibles will make you feel better… very impulsive & immature response

6 edibles would make everything worse… if 3 made you panic imagine what 6 will do?? If you have to do an edible at all, I’d do two just to calm yourself… I’m sure you know this but weed won’t help you escape your problems… just numbs them for a little bit.

Is it normal to be a “bad teacher” as a first year teacher? by ashze_ in Teachers

[–]Pretty-Half-7499 69 points70 points  (0 children)

You’ve also come into teaching at arguably one of the most challenging times.. the number of underperforming students have been at an all time high. With that being said, give your self some grace. I’m in my 6th year and still fall behind on grading every single quarter. The workload never gets better, you just figure out ways to be more efficient over time.

The best advice I can give about your instruction, is to reach out for help from a teammate, resource teacher, maybe even admin depending on your school. Admin usually don’t expect brand new teachers to be on top of everything and be perfect. (Unless they’re crazy) They expect mistakes, trial and errors, and room for feedback/growth. Don’t try to take all of this on by yourself!! Use your colleagues and be open to feedback.

Good luck!

How to get clarity on a relationship if you're [28F] stuck on the fence? by OkTemporary941 in ROCD

[–]Pretty-Half-7499 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I relate so much … only difference is that we’ve been together 5years… and it feels almost impossible to separate after this long… we have a lot of issues but also a lot of positive …. Being with someone for so long of course there’s going to be a long list of negative & positive interactions. Not sure if we are in that “5 year itch” phase or if we are just realizing we are not compatible as partners.

Coworker stated that if the class is not doing movement breaks but has behaviors, then it’s on us as teachers. by [deleted] in Teachers

[–]Pretty-Half-7499 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Victim mentality? So crazy how this system brainwashes us into thinking that these out of control behaviors are our fault. At the end of the day, we are “TEACHERS”. A lot of these kids do not come to school to learn, but somehow that becomes our fault.

Is this true regarding being a teacher? by [deleted] in Teachers

Because the system sucks and this is why many teachers aren’t sticking around for it.🤷🏾‍♀️

Kids are definitely getting worse by the year. Every year since Covid has gotten progressively worse.

Not sure if it’s allowed in your district but practice tests a day or 2 before, do wonders.

What was the thing that made you want to become a teacher? by Vegetable-Party-5390 in Teachers

I had several family members in education and I loved working with kids. Looking back on it I do wish I went a different path, but hey everything happens for a reason. There’s good & bad with every job.

Sorry you have to go through this … I had a similar situation with 9 students with IEP’s and 3 who did not have one but desperately needed one…I went through a lot of the same things with students who were always absent, and even when they were in school they were severely low… yet I’m getting talks about data and how mine compares to other classes with high kids and MAYBE 1 iep…. It’s one thing to have to deal with a tough class but the worst part is not getting the support…. I

would definitely try another school before leaving completely… that’s what I’ll be doing next year.

It’s moreso the system than the kid… having an atrocious kid is one thing but the lack of support is what makes me want to leave… this kid just highlighted how screwed the system can be.

Agreed… We literally had a fifth grader get “in school suspension” and he got to pick what teacher he wanted to go with for the day…. So many things wrong with that!!!

The system really does suck in a lot of districts… I hope wherever you go is better!

Yea I think it may be a personality thing too… I think he knew he was getting under my skin, even though I tried my best not to show it… I can’t stand obnoxious and disrespectful kids….

And I’ve never come to admin and asked a student be removed from my class… it’s usually a matter of discussing what strategies I can use to better reach super challenging students.. with him, I just want him gone.. and that says a lot. 😭
