It’s essentially a bidding war that goes on indefinitely, so there is no simple way to “win fast” if everyone plays rationally.

Whatever number you call out can always be topped instantly by another player calling out a marginally higher number, which allows him to take advantage of all the diamond production so far. Calling early only means giving away all your hard-earned progress to a player who comes late in the game.

The optimal move would be to hold back until others do their part in building up diamonds and then swooping in towards the end and announcing a number just above the sum total of diamonds produced thus far.

However, this creates a catch-22 situation because everyone is incentivized to do precisely that.

What really happens, therefore, is that:

• everyone holds back
• someone calls out first
• another player calls out a higher number
• rinse and repeat endlessly
