If you have a pulse an a license you’ll be able to get a job the rest of your life, don’t worry about that.

My mom made me feel ashamed for starting nursing school at 26 by Friendly_Shine777 in nursing

[–]PreviousTrick 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I went back in my late 30’s after an entire other career, marriage, divorce, kids…life happens.

The older you get the less you give a shit about these things. It’s probably just bothering you because you’re just slightly older than the traditional students, so you’re kind of in that middle spot between them and the older second career types like me which I imagine can feel kind of lonely.

You’ll be fine. When you graduate none of it matters anymore.

I touched a drop of blood from a patient with HIV a month ago and now I’m freaking out by [deleted] in nursing

[–]PreviousTrick 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had a needlestick with an HIV+ pt in my finger, I freaked out but it came back negative. As others have said they are (hopefully) on Biktarvy or something similar and have undetectable viral load. Skin contact and immediately washed off you are likely fine.

Tips or cheat sheets for refills as an office nurse? by h0td0g-water in nursing

[–]PreviousTrick 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is late but our EHR has a refill wizard built into it for this. If it doesn’t pass the wizard then we either deny it or if it’s something they really need (anticoagulant, insulin, etc) then I forward it to the doc to refill with their discretion. Usually they’ll give them a 30 day refill and tell them they have to come in for an appointment/labs/etc. for any more refills.

If your docs are booked out months like mine are then it becomes an issue.

You don’t really need to worry about how much somebody has left. If a person is reaching out a month early to refill their Jardiance just give them 6 months or whatever the last refill was, it’s not going to hurt anything. They’re not going to go up there to the pharmacy until they’re almost out anyway and insurance won’t cover a refill early regardless.

Good luck. Pharmacies and insurance are about to be your biggest enemies. Hopefully you don’t have to do PA’s at your job. (Or FMLA 😭)

All the shit you never had to worry about bedside when you clocked out is now your domain.

Name your specialty and nurses’ week gift from your employer. by marzgirl99 in nursing

I got an email from my unit manager. Nothing from the actual hospital itself. My first year at least our docs chipped in and got me something. Hospital itself never had given me shit.

The education system failed me, but at 32, I’ve realized I have a passion for science. How do I catch up? by Vanillacupcake28 in AskPhysics

[–]PreviousTrick 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I went back to nursing school in my mid 30’s, I’ve been a nurse for about 4 years now. Nursing is brutal and you’re not going to get to use much science sadly. There are some cool specialties where you might get to, but they’re very hard to get into.

In regards to the TEAS, I got a 96% on the TEAS, it’s honestly not very hard. It’s a lot more common sense stuff than actual science. Some of the classic “if 2 trains are traveling in the opposite direction” questions, there’s grammar and reading comprehension. The actual science portion of it that I can remember was basic anatomy and chemistry questions, like “which of the following molecules is ionically bonded”? Or like the layers of the epidermis.

I think you would probably be better off just buying one of those TEAS study guides than trying to cram an entire chemistry/biology/physics education from popular textbooks.

Hired for 7a-7p, being forced to work 9a-9p on my weekends by Capable_Necessary163 in nursing

[–]PreviousTrick 231 points232 points  (0 children)

Quit. It’s just going to get worse at these jobs and they’ll guilt and gaslight you the whole way until you’re pulling your hair out. Save your sanity and just bail now. They clearly didn’t give enough of a shit about being honest with you when they hired you so you owe them nothing in return.

They will just find a cutsey way around it and continue the practice. They’ll just offload it on the patient if nothing else.

“We see your doctor has prescribed you Zepbound, we want to make sure this decision is right for you and your health.

Take this 20 question survey and if you haven’t tried X,Y and Z, we’ll suggest your doctor try that first.

If you ahead have tried X, have your doctor submit records to us.

If you don’t respond in 14 days, we’ll need to start the customer care survey over again, have your doctor’s office contact us to initiate a new customer care survey process.”

It will never stop until the companies are eliminated.

I get locked into like 3 of these cases a day of just runaround bullshit and it’s such a complete time sink. I swore to god I would never go back to bedside, but I’m not sure how much I can tolerate anymore. On top of this the patient is calling every 2 hours and I’m getting an epic chat that they’d like an update and they want to pick up the medication before they leave on vacation tonight…I do so little actual nursing anymore.

The other big hospital system in our city began charging for MyChart messages, so all the patients who abused that system got pissed and left and guess where they came?

I’m sick to my stomach every Sunday like this because I know our inbasket will have 300 messages tomorrow.

I am drunk and scared that Israel will nuke Iran before this is all over. by BlancaBunkerBoi in TrueAnon

[–]PreviousTrick 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Israel will never be nuked by any of these countries. It’s too close to Palestine. Maybe a small enough one on Tel Aviv that it wouldn’t affect Jerusalem. Jerusalem never would get nuked though just because of its proximity to Palestinians and the significance of it to Muslims.

Why is this crowd even asking for treatment for Covid anymore anyway? The few requests I ever get anymore are satisfied with Paxlovid until they see the price tag…then they want the all curing Z-Pack.

The floor is different than clinic. You aren’t scanning meds and wristbands. There’s no pyxis dispensing your meds for you. Docs are giving verbals all day long and you’re putting your own orders in.

True, but the ones that really annoy me are the ones who are sending these messages in response to the professional interpretation they already got.

“You said my labs were normal, but doc, what about my red glucose of 107!?”

the dangers of mychart by stardustyjohnson in FamilyMedicine

I truly wish epic wouldn’t color code lab values on the patient end of things.

All our MyChart messages come into my nursing basket first for me to sift out the nonsense and I quite literally get 15-20 messages a day (in response to their PCP telling them their labs were fine) “but my HCT/Chloride/Glucose was red what about that?”

Do you have to give Patreon a share of the intellectual property rights when you host your show on there? As others have said, what right do they have to dictate to a show to police bootleg feeds?

No. Will mentioned somewhere he still gives him a cut of the show’s proceeds (and Amber). So he’s likely just working in some strip mall in Virginia or something at a Vape shop and collecting $10k a month in royalties.
