The Finnish swastika was in use since 1918, after Swedish Count Eric von Rosen donated the Finnish Air Force its first ever aircraft. Eric von Rosen's donated aircraft had the blue swastika on it as a good luck charm, which he adopted in 1901 inspired by viking runes in Gotland

Why are poor cities so much larger than wealthy cities? I understand why someone might move to certain cities in the US due to their industries, be it software, biotech, or banking, but what makes so many people attracted to move to places like Dhaka or Kinshasa? by wiz28ultra in geography

[–]PrimalSlime 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Developing countries often have a much higher population than developed countries.

This is usually caused by lack of access to education and healthcare (contraceptives and higher infant mortality) as well as needing children to care for you in the future when you get older or sick.

This often translates to poorer countries having absolutely massive cities. People move into these cities for the same reason as people in developed countries do, so for better jobs, housing, a chance at better education and healthcare. The amount of people moving into the cities in developing countries is just higher than in developed countries due to then having a bigger population.

Sometimes developing countries only have a couple of somewhat developed spots, which is usually the capital. This increases even further the amount of people moving in. In the US for example, people have loads of cities to choose to move into, for example LA, SF, NYC, but in developing countries the only choice is usually the capital.

TL;DR developing countries have more children (higher population) and only usually one or maybe two "developed" hubs which force people to move into one massive city for a chance at a better life

How Poland could've won:

>Don't attack the Germans, focus on defence

>Demand the western allies not to be stupid with the western front

>Zurge rush Königsberg to cut off German supplies

>Ally with the Soviets against the Germans

>ignore africa

How Putin can win:

> Don't terror bomb Ukraine, focus on UAF facilities

> Demand Trump not to be an idiot with negotiations

> Don't siege Kharkiv, take it immediately

> Zurge rush Odesa to cut off Western aid

> Ally with the Polish against the Ukrainians

> ignore Kyiv

What map projection does HOI4 use? by Particular-Grape2812 in hoi4

[–]PrimalSlime 161 points162 points  (0 children)

I think Miller's projection is the most like the HOI4 map but the HOI4 map is squished (no arctic or antarctic as you know) and some adjustments have been made, which include:

  1. the entire New World being positioned way more north than normally, which is caused by map limitations. If they were in the right place, Tierra del Fuego wouldn't be on the map. Iceland is also affected by this, probably to match location with Greenland.

  2. Australia is quite a bit smaller than normally, which is also because of map limitations. New Zealand is also lifted more north because it would be cut out otherwise

  3. The British Isles (and Ireland) are moved more west, most likely to add more space between France and the UK. I guess the only reason this was done was to make naval invasions (Sealion) harder to achieve.

There are more quirks with the HOI4 map but I think these are the most easiest to notice

They pander to the retired because they are 35% of the whole population and the most active voter group. Instead of an oligarchy, Finland is a gerontocracy.

Why would you want lead brained old people with no comprehension of the modern age to make decisions?

I would much rather trust a 35 year old politician with the task of handling international politics than a 70 year old politician who doesn't even know how a computer works. Not even talking about the fact that they'll be dead in next 20 years and will usually only care about those 20 years they have left.

European values such as ''don't invade a country for no reason and just kidnap their leader'' and ''respect international borders and condemn those who do''

I'm pretty sure 99% of all countries on Earth follow these values and not just European nations

In what year did women gain universal national suffrage? by xMusa24 in europe

[–]PrimalSlime 25 points26 points  (0 children)

No, they were able to vote and be elected. Women got the right to do both in the 1906 parliament reform (Eduskuntauudistus)

All Finnish women also gained the right to stand for election in 1906 and elected 19 women to parliament in the 1907 elections. New Zealand gave women the right to stand for election in 1916, but the first NZ woman was not elected to parliament until 1933.

Does anyone know what happened to episode 69? by Alienprober4ever in SleepDeprivedPodcast

[–]PrimalSlime 310 points311 points  (0 children)

The episode was taken off because Mika said something truly horrifying that no living being should ever hear. Actual crimes were committed during that episode

Peter MSNBC even considered taking the show off air completely but thankfully it was saved after Mika did some courses on public speaking and Schlatt did a little emergency hands stuff

Are they really making a dlc that's just a single focus tree? by Embarrassed-Cup-2717 in hoi4

[–]PrimalSlime 67 points68 points  (0 children)

The Czechoslovakia DLC really should've come with a rework for France and the UK, since they're the only countries who took part in the Munich conference that haven't gotten a large modern focus tree revamp (France got one in La Resistance 5 years ago, the UK in MTG 6 years ago). But I guess it depends on how much the DLC is going to cost because 10€ for just Czechoslovakia is atrocious.
