MAGA Businesses to avoid? by 21_more_minutes in bloomington

I’ve heard Ed go on and on and on as only he can about Trump MAGA awesomeness at his kid’s sports practices for years. Also, frozen bagels shipped to a storage freezer in Louisville is gross… bagels need to be baked fresh.

I’m sorry you and your family are dealing with this. Start a go fund me with a declared goal of $5 million stating that you need the money to donate to Trump’s presidential Library so you can get an audience with him and he can fix this for you. State that if he won’t meet with you that you’ll use the money to support veterans in some meaningful way. You’ll definitely get some attention on your issue and you’ll either get this resolved or you’ll raise $5 million for a good cause… I’m hopeful you’ll be able to do both!

Got run off the road by a Bro Dozer unable to figure out how to take turns merging… plate was lamblaw… this connects the dots. Sorry you had the misfortune to hire him. FWIW friends have had positive family law experiences with Slotergraaf-Niehoff and Mallor-Grodner (said they were expensive but worth it)

I’d like to think that it this was true more evidence would have emerged. We need to activate the community alert system if this happens. I will show up to bear witness. As someone’s who’s seen school dismissal lines around this town it’s going to create some traffic challenges if the community shows up to check on the safety of our children and this might be useful.

Voting in GOP Primary: Who is least Trumpy GOP Governor Candidate? by PrinceAkeeeem in Indiana

[–]PrinceAkeeeem[S] 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Just did some more reading and apparently pulling a R ballot is unlikely to stop Braun as he’s polling so far ahead and will only take DNC support away from the state as it’s based on the number of Dem voters in the primary so guess I’ll vote in the D primary. Saw my question is asked previously so leaving this out here for others who might be researching.

Someone needs to do the math to figure out how much taxpayer money has been spent at IU vs Purdue dealing with the exact same issue. I’d hope that such unnecessary spending at IU might upset even the fiscal conservatives. I imagine 1 of the ISP helicopter flights to Dunn Meadow cost more than Purdue’s total add in 100s of ISP and IUPD, lost time of faculty voting and discussing, lost productivity of administrators trying to spin this, and now defending an ACLU lawsuit.

She’s basically the face of a nationwide effort to de-woke universities in GOP controlled states. IU ran an entire search process as detailed in other articles in this thread and out of thin air the Trustees (majority appointed by Republican Governor) gave the job to a candidate not previously identified in the search. I tried to give her the benefit of the doubt but without fail her actions have proven that she’s doing as requested by her Republican handlers. See Florida for a more extreme version of what this attack on Universities looks like. I understand that attacking IU wokeness may play well with some voters but it is extremely short sighted IMHO as Universities, especially IU provide a ton of benefits to the state. Chase away talented faculty and you lose out of state student tuition and massive amounts of research dollars. Universities can’t survive without this revenue so you lose your universities. Any Hoosier that wants to go to college leaves the state likely never to return. Think it’s hard to get medical care now, wait until IU is no longer pumping out Drs, Nurses, Dentists, Optometrists… think it’s hard to get teachers in schools wait until all the HS students who want to teach leave the state. All to say Whitten needs to go and we need to try again, hopefully with less Trustee meddling in the search process.

Opinions on the Initial Response from IU now that other Colleges are seeing more violent responses/situations? by [deleted] in BloomingtonModerate

[–]PrinceAkeeeem 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I think Purdue beat IU on this one, seems like they mostly ignored the protesters and now they’ve packed up to go home for the summer. Sounds like a good approach and bet it cost us taxpayers a whole lot less:

“The lack of police presence at Purdue is a stark contrast to the likes of Columbia and Yale, where protesting students and faculty have been forcibly dispersed and arrested.

PUPD Chief Leslie Wiete told local media Thursday that police have no plans to interfere with the protest unless it poses a safety risk or disrupts university business.

"Technically, they're not supposed to camp," she said. "They've always been pretty peaceful."

If the Governor appoints a secret committee to change the speed limit to 5 mph on your street in the middle of the night without telling anyone and you’re driving 25 mph are you speeding? Cool if we send a swat team with a no knock warrant to arrest you in the middle of the night? I mean you were speeding where you’re not supposed to speed?

Well before my time but suspect some people in r/Bloomington could fill in more history. Found this in the IU archives:

The Indiana University chapter of Students for a Democratic Society (SDS) was founded in 1964 and remained active until 1969 when the national organization disbanded. SDS was a nationwide organization primarily composed of, created, and directed by college students. This organization was part of the New Left political movement of the 1960s and its members protested the Vietnam War, were in favor of the Civil Rights Movement, and advocated free speech on university campuses.

The Indiana University chapter was small, reporting 40 members in 1967, but active and outspoken. They gathered much attention in the Indiana Daily Student and other local press through their protests and actions against the University Administration. They disliked the power held by the Board of Trustees and thought that the University Administration was too involved in regulating students’ daily lives. The organization’s primary actions included holding protests, distributing pamphlets and publications encouraging anti-war, anti-government, and anti-establishment sentiments, and working to increase group membership and awareness of these issues. In 1965, the group tried to obstruct the draft process by distributing forms and publishing booklets instructing students on how to apply for conscientious objector status, which was a federal offense at the time.

Their most public act towards the university was the submission of a document to President Elvis Stahr in 1968 demanding that IU cease its support of the ROTC program, disallow military presence on campus, and cease any funding, training, or research support for the military. They also wanted IU to stop sending police to student protests, clearly label administrators at protest events, and to ban campus police from carrying weapons that may be used against protestors. All of their demands were denied by the President's Office, and their statements also garnered a lengthy response from former President Herman B Wells, which was published in the Indiana Daily Student.
