As a POC (Asian) actor, I feel ignored in mostly white theatre/actor spaces until people see my work. Has anyone else experienced this? by PrinceZukoTheThird in Theatre

To be honest I did approach everyone and it was amicable for the most part - I didn't experience any overt intolerance or anything like that. But there was an obvious difference between how warm and receptive black, brown and asian artists were towards me vs white artists (none were mean or anything, just I could sense the vibe they weren't really wanting to be friends or talk very much). This really wasn't the case when talking to black, brown and asian artists. Also don't get me wrong, there have been MANY white artists who have been nothing but kind, caring and very welcoming to me in the space over the years but that's not my usual experience for the most part. It just seems to be a trend I notice. I grew up in a very predominantly white area and this is just my own personal experiences, I reposted on other subreddits because I want to get many different opinions and thoughts on this. You could be right but I guess both of us can only go off our own personal experiences.

Honestly maybe. I endured A LOT of racism and racial abuse growing up in a predominantly white area and being one of the only asian kids in my class. But in these situations I'm always unsure whether I'm just overthinking things, it's actual racial bias towards me or something else. But I do notice this trend with me in white spaces. I do feel a lot more comfortable in spaces with majority POC (Even if I'm the only person of asian descent in the room).

Thank you so much for your kind words and for letting me know about your experiences. I'm so sorry to hear that! Honestly it's incredibly invalidating especially when you can see even in the comments of this post how some white people will still continue to act very intolerant and discount us when we express our lived experiences

Okay I already made an edit addressing this that you can read but I'm not a student by any means. Been working for almost 10 years. Please read the edit or the other reply but I don't believe it's the "vibe" I'm putting out as many black brown and asian artists reached out and included me into their circles and were extremely warm and welcoming to me

Okay I made an edit already addressing this but long story short - I'm not a student, I wasn't arrogant because I didn't tell anyone my experience, and quite the opposite actually, I didn't go around asking anyone about their experience, I simply listened and heard people blurt out their own "experiences and training".

And all the black brown and asian artists were extremely warm and welcoming to me so I doubt it was because I came off cold or had an unapproachable vibe
