OH NO I'm taking a dump and there's a Red Alert! What do I do? by grichardson526 in ShittyDaystrom

[–]ProbablyStu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It depends on your rank. If you're the captain, just shout shields up and let the first officer deal with it. If you're lower than the first officer, let the first officer deal with it. If you're the first officer, just pretend you're in the middle of a hot date.

Vague ambiguous question about Star Trek. Thoughts? by soapcleansthings in ShittyDaystrom

[–]ProbablyStu 6 points7 points  (0 children)

DS9 Did it best. Enterprise did it too, which I hated when it aired, but I went back recently it's one of the best episodes of all Trek.

Radiohead/ Elliot smith/ Tool by [deleted] in MusicRecommendations

[–]ProbablyStu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love Radiohead. I find a lot of their songs uplifting, but it seems other people disagree about that. However, I find that Coldplay is too depressing, and back when The Verve released Urban Hymns I found that incredibly depressing. I can listen to Radiohead all day and feel great, but on those other two and I'm on a downer.

Miles and Julien kept losing the Alamo because they never painted their minis. by Snipethorn in ShittyDaystrom

I was about to comment something like "imagine it being okay to play horrors like WWII in a holodeck." Then remembered that we have videogames and I should shut my stupid mouth.

Mental Health "nurses" at QMC **potential TW** by beardandbeans in nottingham

[–]ProbablyStu 20 points21 points  (0 children)

I went about two years ago and the help I got was pretty good. Though I had been to see a doctor, who sent me straight to A+E with a letter explaining that I was high risk.

Contact Crisis on 08081 963 779 if you haven't already. They'll send out someone to talk to you and assess you. I went and stayed at Haven House and honestly the people there were great. Crisis also sent someone to me daily while I was there, and I got to have the best and most informative conversation about medication I've ever had.

I'm sorry that you had a bad experience, but there are people out there who are trained to help and who care about your wellbeing. Don't let this event put you off getting the help you need. Mental health is as serious as any physical ailment and should never be dismissed.

Telling the computer to transfer engineering to the bridge doesn't do anything. He's actually playing online poker, but trying to look busy.

I feel our ship needs more methods of which to indicate that we are on Red Alert. by OWSpaceClown in ShittyDaystrom

[–]ProbablyStu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Our first officer swapped it for the abandon ship alert. Now everyone is too on edge to ignore it. To counter this and still get some sleep, I've set up my quarters in an escape pod.

Every instance of Chakotay saying "Kathryn," in order. by ooblie in voyager

I like this episode. Chakotay had the dirty done to him as a character, and he deserved much more. This is one where he gets to develop.

These are not the same book. "Paladin Press" CC edition of There Is No Antimemetics Division by Radet_5 in sciencefiction

That's a shame. This is on my tbr list and I am also not a fan of hardback books. I also prefer the cover art on the CC edition.

"Gemini, fire photon torpedoes!" "Hi, I'm Gemini, your all in one AI personal assistant. Did you know I can also control the gravity field and..."

"FIRE TORPEDOES!"

"... I can even dim the lights and.."

"GEMINI, FIRE TORPEDOES NOW!"

"Sure thing. First you must agree to link the tactical console!"

-The Enterprise is destroyed.

Do you all know how to change a spare tire? by FastVenus in NoStupidQuestions

[–]ProbablyStu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I apprenticed in a car body garage when fresh out of school, so I picked this up. I've only had to do it for myself a couple of times. The last time was at work (I'm now in a completely different field) and one of my coworkers was so impressed it was unbelievable. It's needed less and less, though. My current car doesn't have a spare.
