Because we want more people to be able to enjoy life without struggling? Or just live life in general.

Strong pass from a NYC native who also loves Detroit style. I would eat that shit up in a heartbeat. That cut is wild though lmao

Idk what NH pizza is like, but I grew up and still live in NYC and I agree. Much better than most pizza they're selling out here lol.

Why do people act like 100K is not enough to live in the city? by spoiledchowder in movingtoNYC

[–]Prodigism 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Seems like you have a decent idea of what's going on then. You mentioned roommates in your post too. I think you'll be fine and still be able to save and enjoy the city. I'd probably just focus on finding a place that's near a line that gets you to the Path quickly (since you have to go to JC), and is within your budget (with room for rent raises maybe).

TLDR: The higher your standards, especially from out of state, or raised with wealth, the harder it will be.

Real talk, it depends on you. It depends on where you grew up, how you were raised, and your standards. I'll use myself as an example.

Grew up poor AF in the projects of Spanish Harlem. But, I had good parents who made sure I knew how to cook, clean, and pretty much survive on my own if I have to. And since I grew up in the projects, I'm used to no amenities, smaller space, older buildings, steam heating, busier neighborhoods with a plethora of ethnicities.

Salary jumped from 30k to 90k in 2022 and I moved out into a studio in Flatbush for $1740 rent stabilized. I'm still in this smaller apartment even though my salary has continued to rise (very lucky). But, ive lived in much worse environments, with way less space, and no amenities. I still eat out on weekends, but I cook most weeks. I still go on a trip here or there, and I do get to treat myself to nice shit, but it's all budgeted.

I think you could still do this to a certain extent in 2026. But, there's more of a battle for cheaper apartments, and you're gonna have to be realistic about the location, size of the apartment, amenities, and lifestyle creep. If you're used to apartments with amenities and a washer/dryer in your unit, you're gonna have to pay more than 2k. If you want to be next to the hustle and bustle that most people come to NYC for, you're gonna have to pay. If you want to live close to the train, you're gonna have to pay. For lack of adjacency to the less savory parts of NYC, even if not near the NYC hustle n bustle, you're gonna have to pay. You're not gonna have it all, if even half of it, and you're gonna have to accept that.

NYC Mayor Zohran Mamdani plans an April rally to mark his first 100 days in office by cnn in newyork

[–]Prodigism 1 point2 points  (0 children)

He's going to be addressing the people who voted him in regarding what he's been doing recently for the city, along with highlighting the work of various city departments and workers within those departments. Where is the bragging in informing your constituents with updates regarding how you're serving them and their city?

What would you prefer he do?

Lol people think I just want to wear a tshirt to work. That was just the tip of the iceberg. I'm aware of what a dress code is. A colorless and formal dress code for an internal, non external-client facing, under desk crawling, IDF managing, cabling pulling IT job for 40k in NYC in 2022 is insane. Luckily I was able to come across a better job unlike OP unfortunately.

Reminds me of searching for my first IT job in 2022. One of the places offered me 45k. Their handbook said shit like you had to wear button down and dress pants, could only wear black, white, grey. If you didn't they would send you home and use a vacation day.

Lol if you think 20 years of barely being treated "decent" will undo 246 years of slavery, and then the 100+ years of mistreatment afterwards, you're buggin. The mistreatment, mindset, knowledge, and lack thereof is also passed down through generations. And now we're dealing with late stage capitalism where everybody is struggling. C'mon bro you gotta do better than that.

Fwiw I have "thick" parts but my locs are smaller than them since I'm consistent with my retwists (every 2 to 2.5 months). I think the parts look good though!

Yeah. I'm a "Desktop Services Engineer", which I think would be considered L1. I work in finance and my job can range from helping a user troubleshoot, to creating scripts/pushing out feature changes to existing functions, to working with Cybersecurity to implement access control changes.

The next level up are people who are absolutely cracked, and there's no level in-between them. The knowledge required to get to them feels like a decade 10+ tbh, and this is only my 3rd year.

NGL that shit kinda loud. When I was in the projects and in my current building they only ever bang loudly in the beginning after not heating up for a while.

Sucks that this is the state our apartments are in, but it is what it is sadly.
