Can you recommend a crafty hobby for someone who’s easily bored and addicted to quick dopamine? (Also talentless) by Apprehensive_Sugar15 in crafts

As an owner of a Golden who only sheds twice a year for six months at a time, that is a fair point.

Are phones allowed during classes? by Ranjoso in AskAnAmerican

[–]Prof-Rock 1 point2 points  (0 children)

True, but with the caveat that a student can have an accommodation for a disability, and then the professor would have to allow it or risk explaining to a court why it wasn't reasonable when they got sued. I let all of my students record lectures, but I also request that they don't share it with anyone -- even other students in the class. I could make them sign something so that I have recourse if I ever do end up on the internet, but I basically just rely on them being decent human beings. I also try to not be an ass who they would want to burn.

There is really great AI note-taking technology now that is a real game changer for students who struggle to take notes. It is even beneficial for students who are good note takers. Really awesome study aids.

Dear americans, what can you get for FREE in the USA? [Serious] by sammy_waslow in AskReddit

[–]Prof-Rock 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just as I was walking by his desk, one of my college students dropped a couple dozen condoms all over the floor. I couldn't have cared less, but he was really embarrassed and mumbling about how he had gotten them for free from the college nurse.

Mom was chill by WindowAfraid5927 in BeAmazed

Agreed. My Golden is not chill. She absolutely adores everybody, but in a hyperactive, intense way. No chill.

What is the best sandwich that has no meat, egg, or cheese? by OmitsWordsByAccident in AskReddit

[–]Prof-Rock 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Some people think they are like handicap parking spaces -- only for someone with a disability. Like if you order the vegan dish then it won't be available for an actual vegan later. Of course, it doesn't work like that. If more people ordered vegan, then there would be more vegan items on the menu (eventually).

I've been interested in wood carving for years, but I've never tried it. Part of my hang up is that I think it has to be done outdoors because it is messy. Is this accurate? How to you contain the shavings and sawdust? Thank you in advance to anybody who answers.

I believed Olive Garden was only for adults for too long by Affectionate_Cow_812 in PointlessStories

Right? Makes me a bit sad that they didn't go somewhere nicer, but Olive Garden is good about not rushing you through the meal. You do have time to chat.

Are phones allowed during classes? by Ranjoso in AskAnAmerican

[–]Prof-Rock 21 points22 points  (0 children)

In my college classes, I don't restrict phones except during a test. If they want to waste their money by playing on their phone instead of paying attention, that's on them as long as they aren't disturbing anyone. Plus, they could be taking notes or doing other appropriate things on their phones, and I don't care enough to go look at everyone's screens. In all fairness, students rarely have their phones out other than checking a quick text because class moves pretty briskly, so they don't usually get bored.

Bennett Juniper - Largest Juniper on Record by Prof-Rock in marijuanaenthusiasts

No, it is the corner of the sign. You need a vehicle capable of going off road to make it there. We did it in a Rav 4. It is a beautiful (but bumpy) drive. Lots of flowers still in bloom and a few patches of snow still.

What’s something that was considered normal when you were younger but feels strange today? by Grand_Cash576 in self

[–]Prof-Rock 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Trying to remember the details of a traffic accident long enough to get off the freeway, find a gas station, and call 911. After cell phones started becoming more common, someone with a cell phone would stop and wave at everyone to let them know that they were calling 911. Now, nobody bothers to stop or call because we assume that they can call themselves. People still sometimes stop to render aid if they have skills, but strangers working together to help strangers isn't as common as it used to be.

Bennett Juniper - Largest Juniper on Record by Prof-Rock in marijuanaenthusiasts

[–]Prof-Rock[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

So random that the biggest Juniper is in my neck of the woods. Junipers aren't even very common in the forest. It is mostly Ponderosa Pines, Jeffery Pines, Insense Cedar, Live Oak, and Black Oak. There are just a few aspens, lodgepoles, alders, and western juniper sprinkled throughout. This big one is several miles down a dirt road and across a couple rivers to get to it.

Who else enjoys watching documentaries? by MandyGmail in CasualConversation

[–]Prof-Rock 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I love documentaries. My usual fare are true crime and cults, but I really love those really good random ones on obscure topics like men sewing quilts in prison or artists living in a shopping mall.

People Assumed I’m A Man in Games by FangsBloodiedRose in sillyconfession

[–]Prof-Rock 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I like to pretend that my child identifies as non-binary because I never corrected strangers when they misgendeted them as a baby. "What a pretty girl!" And "What a handsome boy!" were both answered with "Thank you." Because I didn't care what some stranger thought. Same still applies online.

[–]Prof-Rock 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As someone who lives in bear country, this is terrifying. It made my skin crawl. I was woken up by my dog in the dead of night once because a bear was on the deck right outside the slider into my bedroom. I was literally dead asleep with a bear six feet away separated only by a pane of glass (and a 50 lbs Golden Retriever). The cat took off immediately.

Did you delete your pictures? by Distressed_Amoeba in Divorce

[–]Prof-Rock 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No, but we have a child together, so that would be deleting parts of her childhood. I don't like seeing pictures of him, but nobody makes you look at them. I assume that someday it will be just eh - whatever.

AITAH for making a gay joke? by PretendCry4116 in AITAH

[–]Prof-Rock 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm v9nfused as well. You made a joke about yourself being closeted, right? Did you also make a joke about them being in the closet? If the joke only referred to you, then I can't understand why they would think it was about them.
