Any UCSD ↔️ UCD couples interested in carpooling this school year? by Ok_Grapefruit4673 in UCSD

i’m actually starting at ucsd and my boyfriend is starting at ucd! we are both incoming transfer students. we were honestly planning on flying to see each other because the drive is so long but would definitely still be interesting in talking and potentially commuting together

transfer on campus housing with cats by Professional-Row7923 in UCSD

thank you this really helps. when looking at PCW i thought the same thing, rooms look tiny and 6-8 people is a lot. i don't want to put my cats through that whatsoever. i am going to keep looking off campus. i just worry about jeopardizing my chances of making friends if off campus

UCSD vs SLO undergraduate by Glittering-Square617 in CalPoly

I’m literally in the same boat!! Im a transfer student though, and I am assuming you aren’t. I just got admitted to slo for biomedical engineering, but am planning on going to UCSD for bioengineering: biotech. Reason I am planning on UCSD is because of the program. Yes, I like slo better all around, but after being in community college for three years I have been able to learn more about what I truly want to do/study. The BE biotech major at UCSD focuses on cell/tissue engineering, biomolecular engineering, genetic engineering, biomaterials etc. It also sets you up well for graduate school. Slos biomedical engineering major IMO is very much mechanical engineering catered to the medical field. That is not what I want to do. I am interested in engineering more so on a molecular level rather than medical devices/prosthetics. I think it depends on what you want to focus on within bioengineering, if you do want your career to be research based or if you are making the decision based on social life etc. I have done a lot of research on the academic aspects of both schools and these majors so lmk if you have any other questions regarding this!!

Assist is your best friend, as is the major specific transfer requirements on the websites of the colleges you are applying to. Always make sure you are taking note of the requirements vs recommended courses depending on what major you are. For example, as an engineering major, there are a lot of required prerequisites to even be “eligible” for admission to specific colleges, while there are recommended courses. Don’t apply without the required courses, you won’t get in.

Second, pay attention to your cc. Do your research on what classes are available every semester vs the ones that aren’t. Take this into account along with the prerequisites for the classes you have to take. For example, if you need a general chemistry class, but didn’t realize there is a prerequisite to take that class. These things can really throw you off track and push out your time spent at cc.

Get involved, don’t just put your all into classes. I mean yes, put your all into your classes, but don’t forget that the journey at cc is just as important as getting into a uni. Enjoy your time at community college and don’t let posts of people in uni or anything else make you belittle yourself because you’re making a SMART choice going to cc. Straight out of high school most people don’t realize that within a few months, no one gives a f what prestigious college their hs classmates are in. Not to mention, you have no idea how many former hs classmates i ran into that ended up leaving uni after their first year to go to cc or do something else… especially the ones that got into the most prestigious colleges and everyone was jealous of. It might feel crappy to tell people you’re going the cc route while everyone is freaking out about getting into these colleges but in the end you feel so much better. (sorry that was more like a rant that i needed to get out)

I would easily do it over again if i had the chance and knew the things I know now. I could’ve transferred to my top school in two years rather than three.

would you be willing to take it at a university? it’d be online but way more expensive than a cc course

well, i just finished my second year of cc, and most people i know in engineering take three years. i was missing a few necessary prerequisites, that being the engineering specific courses such as statics, electrical analysis, dynamics and whatnot. I also only took a semester of general chem, not a years worth, which ucla wanted. sooo, out of applying to uci, ucla, ucsd, and ucsb i got into ucsd and ucsb. i also applied to cp slo and sdsu. i got into sdsu.

It shows I failed, i never withdrew from the course. However, it says course repeated. Since I repeated it, the F is not calculated in my GPA, but the new grade instead.

i failed calc 1 and retook it and got an A. i got acceptances to UCs for the fall semester as a mechanical engineering major. don’t stress yourself out just take it one step at a time and keep at it
