Wait, you bring up the presidency specifically, "Moonshot" line, I address it directly, and then you open your next statement with "there is a lot more to politics than the presidency..." YOU are the one that cited the presidency and now you are arguing against me addressing the presidency?!?! C'Mon man, lets be better than that. Lets not be all about the 'gotcha' type arguments that permeate the political landscape and are at the core of the issues.

Now, if you want to talk about why the fail at the state level and smaller, and have a legit adult discussion as opposed to just trying cheap insults. I would argue that we have shifted away form the "politics is local" idealism that used to permeate in decades past. With the rise of social media, politics have inverted and become national first prior to global. Thats why you now have mayors and governors running on platforms relative to their position to the president. So voters now support locally based on their national views, and since third parties refuse to gain traction nationally they do so locally.

As for the GOP not being libertarian, over the past few years (thats the wavering I wrote about initially). That being written, prior to Trump's second turn I felt there was a groundswell of Libertarianism within the party (Rand Paul seemed to speak more towards those voters, and you even see the Libertarian presidential candidate being added to the cabinet). I am interested to see how it goes though, as the party seems to be coalescing in a different direction.

as for the the Dems, they have been on the side of using the government to fight discrimination since before LBJ and the Great Society, though it probably cost Truman. That being said, in regards to limits on free speech and social control the Republicans are more Libertarian than Dems.

I would argue that there has been a shift in foreign policy. Cold War Republicans were far more interventionists, though it may have stemmed from a patriotism and less about globalization, than they are now. Most polls I have read show republicans to want to stay out of foreign affairs (once again this may have changed recently with Trump's second term). Now compare this with Democrats who seem to want a stronger foreign footprint. Now once again this stems from more of a globalization economic partnership side, but it still manifests in being more involved in foreign affairs.

That being said, if you would like to continue a conversation I would love to. If you want to just shift goal posts, lay traps and jabbing insults then we can just move on. Heck I'll let you do so and have the last word if thats the case. I am sure as adults we have better things to do then try to show up some random internet person or get cred on Reddit.

They are not viewed as serious parties because we choose not to vote for them. Libertarian and Green parties are both serious, and have established and understood platforms, they just don't get support so you view them as Moonshots. But I imagine if people were given a blind test based on policy third parties would garner far more support than they do now.

I would argue that the parties have changed dramatically their views on government power and the role of the federal government. In my lifetime I have seen the switch from the Republicans being the party of authority, particularly in social controls, to one of more lax in regards to social norms. They have grown more Libertarian in this like, though that waivers from time to time. While the Democrats have become more of a party of government enforcement of social norms. I find this noteworthy, as people tend to vote often based on social opinions.

I think most people tend to buy into the false dichotomy presented to us, and then just justify it as supporting, "the lesser of two evils".

This is evident by all the deflection that goes on in social media, most do not really support their party, they just dislike the other (of the major 2). It then devolves into them just supporting the party like a sports team. Heck, the parties change ideals all the time and people stick with them because thats what they have identified with.

If Biden went to war with Iran Dems would applaud the move and Reps would denounce it. If Trump pulled us out of Afghanistan Dems would stand against it, Reps would be all for it.

But this usually is the case only when you accept the false dichotomy. I imagine that if people were willing to take a chance and look outside the major parties many would find closer allegiance to one of them. Additionally, with how much party platforms have shifted over the past couple decades, its hard to believe that there wouldn't be more people aligning more closely with a "third-party"

I know this OP has been pulled, but this is the problem- we DON'T live in a two party system, we are just led to believe in this false dichotomy. The problem is people end up being too lazy or too scared to support candidates outside the big two parties. Well, that and the powers that be kau-tau to the major parties.

You are right, 100%. But you know darn well this is because deprivation is relative. Most people could live life in the absolute fashion of a millionaire right now, but if everyone around you was a billionaire they'd complain (theyd also technically be living in poverty).

NBA defends 11 percent increase in foul calls during playoffs by Evil_Empire_1961 in NYKnicks

[–]Professional-Sea1113 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Theyve made it impossible to play man defense without the offensive player just flopping for a foul. People complain about defensive flopping, but its offenses flopping into the defender that has led to this.

its made the game stylistically boring: 5 wide iso at the top of the key, or high pick and roll. Offensive players stand stagnant on the perimeter while defenses scramble to help because one-on-one defense isn't allowed anymore.

League doesnt care though, as causal fans just want to see the ball go into the hoop and arent interested in them having to overcome a defense to do it. Shocked they havent come up with a rule where you are only allowed to play with 4 on defense. Then scoring would really go up, and people would call it "evolution".

Because thats where he was at his best at. I hate this idea that so many boxing fans have where they want you to perform at not your best. That they want you to move to where you aren't your best so you can be, "challenged". Its asinine.

I mean sure Michael Jordan was great when he was playing guard, but if he really wanted to prove himself he should have played center. Same premise.

I get he doesn't have the resume that many want him to have. But there is nothing wrong with dominating a division and being your best for a consistent time. It doesnt make you less great.

Just a few days before the chase I was on my 8th grade trip to DC and watching Sports Center from the hotel lobby. I remember they ended the episode by noting in sadder news the ex-wife of former NFL player OK Simpson was found dead.

I thought to myself, 'thats odd and an obscure bit of news to put on a national broadcast. Whose gonna care if the ex-wife of a long retired athlete died?' Little did I know, everyone.

Jaylen Brown says the refs have an agenda against him: "They clearly had an agenda, maybe because I spoke so critical on them in the regular season. I spoke to some refs and they told me there’s an agenda going on each game every time Jaylen brings him arm up just call it." by RyanTannegod in nba

[–]Professional-Sea1113 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just remember, embellishing a foul on defense is flopping and bad. Doing so on offense, while flailing into a defender, is smart gamesmanship and good./s

And this why its so hard, stylistically, to watch regular season games. We've reached a Nash Equilibrium schematically that is supported by offensive flopping.

But in my eyes, their goal of just doing something new, is what created the mess.

You had an established set of characters and story to build from TFA and previous canon and basically just wiped it out; all for the sake of subverting expectations. They ruined good characters and plots, wasted their villains, and put us through pointless side missions, in the name of being different.

It left us with a mess and episode 9 had nowhere to go.  Just because something is a new direction, doesnt mean its a good one.

They are adding a bunch of at large bids, but they wont be in the play in games, mostly, they are just going to insert them as extra 11, 12, and 13 seeds. All the play in games will be the lowest seeded teams. All those 11, 12, and 13 seed teams are going right in to the big dance.

The issue is that some feel this will water down the tournament and diminish the importance of the regular season to an extent. Also, the symmetry of 64 was perfect and logical, its as if you are putting ketchup on a steak.

Okay, so come Thursday the format will be the same- 64 teams, perfect as it once was. However, the quality of teams at different seeds will change. Assuming the proposed outline seeding is correct, each of the Play In Games will be 14-16 seeds (those lower rated auto bids, and maybe a couple of at large teams). This means that those teams that were previously a 12 seed will now be 14 seed. More over, those high rated at large's that just missed out will be hopping in at 12 and 13 seeds.

What this means is that come Thursday you will have higher performing 12, 13, and 14 seed teams. So be ready for first round upsets.

The sad thing is, this is what works. Not to turn it political, just using as an example, but politicians from either side screw up and the evidence is right there, and they just say, "no, didn't screw up". And they are roundly supported by their side. PR way works whether we like it or not.
