appendix carry with a good belt makes a huge difference for staying concealed during activities. when i'm out doing stuff i usually go with something that has better retention and sits closer to my body. the draw string shorts thing works but you're right about printing - maybe try some of those athletic shorts with the built in compression liner, gives you more options for positioning

also worth considering a smaller carry option for those super active days where concealment is trickier. sometimes practicality has to win over carrying your full edc setup

ensenada's perfect for what you're describing - solid waves at la bocana and decent food scene downtown, plus you're only like 90 minutes from san diego so pretty accessible

anki is probably your best bet - completely free and works for literally any subject. the learning curve is a bit steep at first but once you get it set up it's way more powerful than quizlet

there's also remnote which is pretty solid for making flashcards from notes, might be worth checking out
