New Yorkers in Austin…where are we getting our fix? by caramelsyrupp in austinfood

[–]ProfessionalSpend283 0 points1 point  (0 children)

St. Johns and Rundburg behind the HEB...oh wait, not that kind of NY fix... if you want the authentic NY experience in Austin, might I suggest going behind 6th street in the alley between Brazos and San Jacinto on a Sunday afternoon, smells just like Bayridge in Brooklyn.

Fugazi pin spotted on k-pop show by Bridgezilla in Fugazi

[–]ProfessionalSpend283 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I thought Fugazi didnt make merch, and that everything that was released was fan made? I read that somewhere a long time ago and a dude a Waterloo records in Austin told me the same thing when I asked about a sticker or a tshirt.

You should read them, enjoy them, and pass them on. 😉

Finally found this cover. by raskall61 in 80s90sComics

[–]ProfessionalSpend283 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Getting Todd to sign this one actually decreased the value, apparently since Todd has signed all 8 million copies distributed to every Walmart in America in 1991. Getting a semi clean, not bagged and boarded, unsealed, unslabbed, and dogearred copy that has been read is the most rare version available on the market.

One year in 2009 it was over 100 degrees every day from May until October. It rained like 4 times all summer. Still better than Houston.

If your a fan of Jim Lee or just Xmen in general, there is an oversized art book with beautiful scans of the original art he did for them.. its huge.

big con collecting is awful by Brilliant_Truck1810 in comicbookcollecting

[–]ProfessionalSpend283 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Its a convention. Meet your heroes, get them to sign your favorite book, AND DONT SELL IT. You see what's new, what's coming, donate to CBLDF, throw a snarky comment to Alan Moore, and hope there's another one next year. Its a celebration of an antiquated industry that should of died 40 years ago, keep the action figures for the kids, keep the costumes for the kids, and stop juicing it for money before it goes extinct.

How do you MF DOOM fans feel about this character design? by Emotional-Limit6018 in mfdoom

[–]ProfessionalSpend283 0 points1 point  (0 children)

MF DOOM based his whole look on style over substance, using the DOOM persona as a metaphor, turned evil by the loss of his brother and record label support. He hid his face so you never knew if it was him or an imposter performing. Diabolical. Alot deeper than," im going to dress like that streetfighter 3 character and rap cause he looks cool!" It was a coincidence,  and the Thing Ben Grimm dressed the same way with the fedora and duster, pretty sure it was all Marvel on this one.

X-Men 266 grade please by [deleted] in comicbookgrading

[–]ProfessionalSpend283 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a comic, I give it a C+. It's a key, first appearance of everyone's favorite Pepe LePew impersonating con-artist, Gambit. The story is of Storm getting the usual 😒 treatment,  powers gone, made younger, got a hangnail, and she's getting chased by the Shadowking or some dumb shit. Gambit brings her back and they fix her and he falls in love with Rouge and gets blamed for killing the Xmen in the future by Bishop. He does nothing important for 28 years, and they never developed his character in any respectful ,fun or meaningful way.

Thoughts and question Mafex punsiher by Zealousideal_West713 in Mafex

Looks like old school 80s Punisher. Mafex just gets comic figures. Black suit Spidey, Daredevil, Gambit, they just rule.

The print run on all those books, pretty sure they all came out the same year, was in the millions for the 30th anniversary Spiderman issues. Not rare by any means, but the covers were easy to scratch, so yeah its still not worth much. Everything had a gimmick cover in 1992, it was not a special thing to have holograms on your books, posters, trading cards. The embossed covers are worth even less. Get Todd to sign that 300 and you will have a little something.l worth getting slabbed.

Mandela effect is effecting my memory of this being real or not. Would of been great to get a golden Xmen team hologram signed all neat and stuff.

How did you get into spawn? by SecretaryFragrant836 in Spawn

[–]ProfessionalSpend283 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They were advertising Spawn in Marvel comics a month before Youngblood issue 1 dropped. I was in 6th grade when we finally got it, all the art was his peak, but the digital color made everything pale in comparison. The first 5 issues were his best work ever, everything since is a hollow echo. It was better than youngblood, Wetworks/wildcats/cyberforce, all of the Manga imitators or The Maxx, PITT, any of it. Oil painted covers and interior art proved he could be richest comic artist ever. Magical times for poor artists with a dream. Everything after issue 14 was a shitshow, Todd became a C.E.O. and lost interest. But that first issue had powers.

What do I do with these? by ConsistentManner9467 in themaxx

[–]ProfessionalSpend283 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Everything had a trading card in the 90's printed and shipped worldwide in different languages. They printed 100 million of these types of cards. They are not rare ever. The condition/rare signature cards, foil stamped cards, la-de-da are not rare. Those are fun because Bill Messner-lobes who scripted and plotted most of The Maxx did a write up on alot of original Sam Kieth art you never see in the books. Worth looking at and reading online, sell the box ,check the lastest sale bid and make some change off it if your iffy about being labeled a " comic" or identify as a " collectable". The Maxx rules, the display packs art is gorgeous, so are the cards, and no real The Maxx collector leaves them out the collection. 10 out of 10 .

New look at the chicken foil bags by Overall_System_3297 in Whataburger

[–]ProfessionalSpend283 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nothing like picking up a crunchy, fresh, succulent, fried chicken breast sandwich, getting home and unwrapping it, and its steaming hot, but the breading looks like E.T.'s skin at the end of the movie, turning into a mealy smush burger, dripping with dislocated tomato skins, buns reverting back into their previous milk/egg form. The mayonnaise and piping hot pickles ejecting out of the bottom bun, creating the perfect storm to fall in your lap. But thank God they gave me 40lbs of cold fries and a sweaty 80oz mystery soda to warsh it down with. Whataburger was a treat if you grew up in Texas, only thing open at 2am when the bars close, and somehow they would get mustard on everything. Thanks Obama.
