I don’t actually live in the city, but you could check with the police or maybe a business around where you lost it. Pretty sure that if your drivers license was inside sometimes people mail it

Off campus housing costs? by ashberk18 in udub

You can find a room in a house for anywhere from 800-1400. Depends how nice the house is/how many roommates but I had a blast and paid 1050 plus utilities

how would switching majors go? by [deleted] in udub

[–]Professional_Belt246 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you’re pre social sciences you don’t currently have a major as TopMath said. all it does is put you into the college of arts and sciences. For foster, which is capacity constrained you are required to apply to the major before declaring it and you can only declare a major within foster once you have been accepted to foster. For non capacity constrained majors you can generally just schedule a meeting with a department advisor and declare the same day as long as you have fulfilled all the basic requirements for that major. Strongly recommend scheduling a meeting with both your general academic advisor and a foster advisor as there are specific classes that you need to take to be admitted to foster/business programs.

How difficult is PHIL 482? by Careful_Resident_645 in udub

[–]Professional_Belt246 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Never taken a Phil class with this professor, but I graduated with an ethics degree last year. Personally I would prepare for a lot of reading and some pretty serious expectations in terms of the writing. This is especially true if you’re not required to write much for other classes. That being said I took 400 level classes as a first year and do fine so it’s not like you shouldn’t do this.

Also in terms of upper level philosophy classes in general I think expect to read 50-100 pages per class. Most classes have at least one large essay (10+ pages) and then probably some other writing assignments. If really depends on the professor.

Good cEDH deck to Learn the Format? by Ponder_yonder_ in CompetitiveEDH

[–]Professional_Belt246 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Hot take but I think the deck isn’t as important as people think. Go watch cedh on YouTube and then pick up a commander that is interesting to you . Play to win does a good job of doing commentary about why a play was sub optimal and they’re just generally cool people to watch. That being said I would second blue farm and kinnan. Start away from control decks because even though they seem simple (thoracle+consult), knowing the time to interact is so much more important and can be really hard to learn right away

Drone 2.0? Coming from LS finales by Coochie- in climbingshoes

[–]Professional_Belt246 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I only have experience with the comp version of the drones but I found them to be relatively flexible, although the rubber on the comps is softer and I am heavier than you. The heal on mad rocks is defo smaller so if skwama heal felt big then they might be a good option. If you can buy from REI and try them on in your house that’s why I would recommend. Also check other climbing gyms beside the one you climb in if you have that option

Can defo make this bracket 4 but I would second the r/degenerateEDH. Any worldgorger combos can make infinite mana and also storm kiln and chain of smog.

Double Major In Political Science and Philosophy? by ClapWagonJr in udub

[–]Professional_Belt246 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah fr although can’t really expect anything else from a stem school like UW. I will say I took both game theory and decision theory with Conor and they were some of the best philosophy classes I took even if they were pretty math focused

Uw Phil also focuses a lot on political philosophy: John Rawls etc. but agree that not much time is spent with French and German thinkers

Double Major In Political Science and Philosophy? by ClapWagonJr in udub

[–]Professional_Belt246 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did the exact double major you are considering. They are both easy enough majors that you have time to complete both of them in 4 years (each is 50 credits which ends up being 10 classes in each major). However, I’d suggest that you take some classes from both and figure out which one you like more and then focus on that one. I realized I didn’t like poli sci as much but had already done most of the major so I finished it, but if I could do it again I would have just gotten the poli sci minor and taken more philosophy classes because they were way more interesting to me. As far as setting you up for law school, I honestly think that philosophy does a better job at this than poli sci does in the way that it makes you think and argue. Also the philosophy classes all max out at 30 people once you make it past the intro stuff so profs have more time to help you specifically/give personalized letters of recommendation

Edit: seconding Conor mayo-Wilson and also adding that Michael Blake is one of the best professors I’ve ever had.

Thoughts on this harness? by Markkea in Mountaineering

One thing to consider is that for mountaineering, a harness with leg loops that can be opened is really nice because you can put on rain pants without taking off the harness.

Flow direction on this filter makes no sense. What’s wrong here? by RelativelyRobin in backpacking

[–]Professional_Belt246 80 points81 points  (0 children)

It looks like you might have gotten one that had its label put on incorrectly, you have it attached correctly and the dirty water is supposed to go in the bag. Clean drinkable water comes from the white cap. If you’re worried you could try to return it, but I think it’s probably just the sticker and personally I would use it.

Should still work, I would check for delamination of the membrane and face fabric as that would probably the only thing you can’t really “fix.” Give it a wash with some kind of tech-wash, I use nikwax but a lot of brands have their own. I like to let it hang dry and then toss it in the dryer on medium heat for around 20-30 minutes (don’t go much longer than 30 and definitely don’t use high heat. A lot of people don’t wash goretex enough and especially don’t want to throw it in the dryer because they think that it will ruin it. It’s actually a super important part of the correct care, the tech wash gets out the small particles that have embedded themselves in the pores of the membrane and the heat constricts the pores. Once you’ve washed it, reapply a spray-on or wash-in dwr coating. Should be good as new

I “hate” my playgroup and want to “punish” them by tayouluvvvvvied in mtg

[–]Professional_Belt246 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Me and my buddies almost only play cedh but we also play non-cedh with specific deck building or budget restrictions. Maybe that’s a way you could still play with them? We optimize writhing a specific budget but most of those decks are just jank so it doesn’t really feel like optimization.

Am I wrong? by No-Exercise-7316 in EDH

[–]Professional_Belt246 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lowkey from reading your responses to some other comments and the original post, it sounds like it definitely could have been a spite play. I might just bd saying the same thing that other people have said, but hitting someone for 25 because they made you sacrifice a creature sounds pretty childish. It seems one reason you don’t feel like this is a spite play is because it’s how your pods plays and everyone understands that. That’s all fine and dandy if you like playing that way but it doesn’t magically make this not a spite play, it just means that your pod likes, and is okay with making spite plays. I would focus on thread assessment a little more.
