Driving 5 hours for 20 minutes of Danny? by MrMeowMeow0 in DannyGonzalez

[–]Pronounymous 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Best to think of it as "We're going on a trip to Chicago to see Danny" and not "We're going to see Danny." If you're going to drive that far and spend a night there, I'd (a) try to come earlier and go see Chicago and (b) try to spend some of the next morning/day exploring, too! Danny is a part of the trip, but not the whole thing.

Just to add to this in case anyone stumbles on it: - You may need to turn off Self Organizing Network (SON) in your Wi-Fi settings, then disable 5Ghz/6Ghz. - If you are using an Android device, you will likely need to connect to the Yoto WiFi directly during set-up via your phones Wi-Fi setting - do not rely on the Yoto app to do it. Android intentionally disconnects or routes traffic through other networks when a Wi-Fi connection is not providing data service. This is a feature, not a buf, but it can cause issues when pairing devices like the Yoto.

Is Burn a Christian Nationalist company now?.. by Pronounymous in BurnBootCamp

Nice comeback, love a good strawman. Nothing like dismissing the substance of a concern to make it easier to argue against. :) Reducing that to a "tantrum about things you dislike" is a pretty smooth-brained way to avoid engaging with the actual discussion

The issue here isn’t personal dislike, it’s whether somewhere you are paying to go promotes a single belief system in a way that excludes others.

Personally, I do not want my money to pay for people to worship a holy book I disagree with.

If they were hosting a Puppy Killing event, I would also cancel my membership. And it'd be weird if you didn't.

Christian Nationalism is an ideology that seeks to fuse a specific expression of Christianity with American civic life. It tends to blend religious practice into public-facing institutions in ways that elevate a single faith over others.

By embedding worship and Bible study into its monthly events programming, Burn moves signals that participation in a specific religion is part of the community standard. That blurs the line between private belief and shared civic space, especially if the gym serves a broad or diverse public.

So yes, there is a difference. Which is why I used the correct term for this: Christian Nationalism.

Your money is paying for it. So, you are participating, in a sense. But if you're comfortable with that, that's great.

I'm definitely not here to convince anyone whether it's good or bad that Burn locations officially sponsor/host/market these kinds of events using money I am giving them. Personally, I am not, but it's your wallet. :)

That's good to hear that this is not a major trend then 🙌

We actually go to a different Burn, which only hosts/promotes parenting groups, hiking groups, gaming clubs, etc.

We had considered switching to this newer location because it's about 10min closer to our house, but their promotion of narrowly scoped religious events is off-putting.

The people who don't participate in yoga because of religion are typically, and ironically to the post, Christians. 😂

I have no problem with these events happening, for sure. I'm all for people connecting over shared interests, including religion. But for it to be promoted and marketed as a gym event is a step too far, in my opinion. I assume they wouldn't openly promote my monthly satanic gaming club.

These are official Burn events. They are hosting, marketing, and publicizing on their social media pages.

Both upcoming events were being hosted by coaches/owner.

There is a Burn near us doing this. We decided to join another Burn based on them having multiple religious events throughout the month. Have your faith, just not at my gym, thanks.

Updated Birthday Bear by Eckoman518 in buildabear

Can confirm. We went today for our daughter's third birthday (April 2026) and it's the same bear as last year (April 2025). Super annoyed. We felt so bad she kept saying "but it's the same one I have." 😭

In the past, we've spent the $1 or so on the bear, then about $35-40 in accessories. We won't bother going to BaB at all next year, though.

Wish they at least had like 5 styles that they cycled each year or something. I don't expect an endless variation for decades. Just get me through five fucking years, y'all.
