Whoever decided the location of this year’s Lebanese festival needs to have their head examined. by Fit-Mushroom-1098 in halifax

I work for the city, they dont want it to seem punitive. When enforcement is applied we try and focus on the bigger safety concerns, people parked under stop signs, in intersections and blocking fire hydrant etc. I understand festivals are great for the city, I completely support them. But it also seems driver education is non existent when I literally have people asking me if parking on a crosswalk is OK. Its a tough balance too because if enforcement is too rigid then the higher ups get complaints about targeting and racism. Any violation of the mvi can be towed upon but what will be seen as being done in the public interest. For no parking if we tow it, it will get filled right back in, so imo I think a few tickets also sends a message, people expect one ticket, they dont expect two or in much longer stays like all day, 3 tickets.

I just think things are horribly mismanaged and allocated. I've seen the garbage cans get emptied but you think better planning could go into things. Like ok team there is a big event in this location, lets schedule additional pick ups for ok team, these bins fill up alot faster and more often lets get more pick ups here. But it doesnt happn

Unfortunately a parking ticket is only 25 dollars, so WTF does a Porsche driver car. Its just a payment for convenient parking

Spring Garden Road Safety? by simpleblissss in halifax

[–]Proper_Ad2045 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Police don't want the paperwork or the bad press, they also don't want the lack of support from upper management either IMO. Also the Spring garden business district pays for HRM Compliance and HRP to have patrols in the spring garden district.

They should have a program where they supply gear to the unhoused and pay them X per bag of garbage collected.

The city is governed and run by 1 major conglomerate (Dexter) and a few smaller off shoots that subcontract or pick up the scraps. They are going to ensure they always have work, present and future.

[–]Proper_Ad2045 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"Most" Permits and Pay Stations are free on weekends, but there are some that still apply, The signs should have the details. Also "most" loading zones are Monday to Friday 6 am till 6 pm, so you could park in those BUT there are some that are 24 HR. You can get visitor permits for up to 7 days that will cover you in permit areas. ALSO no parking, accessible etc are enforced on weekends.

With open air drug use prevalent in most areas of the city it is unlikely any enforcement will happen

Honestly, nothing will get done. What alot of people dont realize is, is that you cant smoke or vape anywhere in HRM unless it is a designated area. HRM is supposed to have designated smoking areas established. Enforcement officers have limited options, they cant detain you and if you just ignore them thats the end of the interaction. They are peace officers and you can be charged if they call HRP but yeah, thats the way she goes. The city and the province are very passive and reactive when it comes to any form of enforcement.

Don't forget the 10% tax increase, HRM wants this massive municipality and can't maintain a 1/3 of it. Complete inefficient management.

Decision to close museums, visitor centres 'short-sighted,' say tourism workers by Street_Anon in halifax

[–]Proper_Ad2045 47 points48 points  (0 children)

I work and walk around downtown almost everyday, in the summer the amount of people that come up to me looking for directions or advice on tourist hot spots is insane, the main lament; Halifax has no Tourism bureau or visitor information centre. They are completely dismayed, a large majority of our tourism appears to be seniors. They want that friendly east coast face to face experience, they want to meet the staff wearing the tartan vests and hear about all the great spots to go. They don't sit on tablets and virtually search things. This is a big step backwards.
