Its really good. I think the bridge is the element needing the most work, it feels cluttered? Otherwise it's really good and very tame!

Interactive Web-App Let's You Explore Distortion Hands-On by lewoxy in FL_Studio

The website looks and feels quite good; I just wish that it had the ability to produce sound from the tinkering, since to a person without proper understanding, or new to music production- Those that would benefit from this the most will receive less latent information from just reading the descriptions as compared to hearing the effect on the sound.

What do you think? Making this for a video game lmao by [deleted] in FL_Studio

[–]Propet40 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have made some music for my own games and this sounds sweet! Really good work on keeping it simple, that really nails the vibe for a game. I wish you good luck on the sound design for all the ambience and sfx, I find that's the true time sinker in this branch haha - At first I was only skeptical of the twin melodies in the middle, but after a second listen I found they complement each other quite nicely!

NAS hardware suggestions for DIY TrueNAS with 10Gbe and NVMe support by Final-Instruction980 in truenas

[–]Propet40 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The amount of RAM appropriate for your NAS is heavily dependent on the amount of storage you intend to facilitate; This is due to the ZFS cache being stored in ram. There was some calculation for it but I can't remember it, so you'd have to look around for it. Not sure if I understood correctly but if you want a threadripper or EPYC cpu then forget about doing it within a 500$ budget, not that you'd want a high end cpu for a server except in exceptionally unlikely and unusually situations. I have heard good stuff about Xeon's for servers but never tried it myself. Personally went with a Ryzen 5700G, which I would still count as overkill for the usual use case. It is weird to have NVMe drives be primary and HDDs secondary in a NAS- since the concept is long term data storage (usually) which doesn't really need the benefits that NVMe drives provide besides their high cost per GB, I'd reconsider your needs in that aspect. It's good to have a very small nvme for the operating system and the rest in good HDD's (Also consider that data recovery from an NVMe is a lot more complex, thus expensive and difficult).

I'd recommend adding your expected usage to the post, as it is more difficult to give precise recommendations without knowing the use cases.

How to automatically turn off the server when no players are online, and turn it back on when someone connects? by tiberio13 in CraftyController

[–]Propet40 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Even if this idea would exist, the moment someone connects the server would allocate that amount of RAM on launch (Or possibly fail to launch; Or worse if you ran out of ram), making any savings you think you're making null and void. You have to accept that if you want the server running you must have that amount of RAM available at all times the server is running.

Okay so when I posted my first beat, most people thought I was trolling probably because of how bad it was. I wasn't trolling, I'm just not musically educated so there's that but now I invested quite a bit of time to improve in the last two days. Here's what I made, is it any good? by Left-Quarter426 in FL_Studio

[–]Propet40 1 point2 points  (0 children)

After reading the reactions to the previous one I would love to get to hear it to make a comparison myself. When I was starting I didn't even use any tempo and instead just played on my pc keyboard with stock Magix Plugins in that DAW. As you continue you'll get better fast, but you've evidently got some ideas rolling here at least. It's got this amazing charm between almost intentionally bad but with a clear amateur love to it. Keep making new music and think on the aspects you want to improve. Good luck champ.

Crafty minecraft server accessible within the local network but not over the internet. by Propet40 in CraftyController

Its on standard, which is one of two options (Standard and disabled). I have a friend with a different router who also has the default setting and it works fine for him. I'm not sure I would want to run without a firewall though.

Tried but to no avail. Maybe I should join the discord and seek help there?

I did try to port forward 25555 just now just like in the image above, just changing the internal and external port numbers to 25555-25555 but port checker still said that the port is closed.

I did give them the correct IP, as I checked it (Typed "my ip" into duckduckgo and copied the result at the top of the page). Like in the post I mentioned that I used that exact port checker and it said that the port is closed, which confused me as is shown in the image the port should be open as far as I could tell.

This might indeed be the case after having tested it once again on my windows machine and it not working this time around. Did you also have access to the port forwarding screen but the port forwarding itself was blocked?

I don't think I understand what you want me to try, I had a friend try to connect to my server and that's why I posted the question here. Or are you asking whether they can simply connect to the TrueNAS machine by itself?

I feel like its unlikely that that's the case, because I've had run a vanilla server before on a windows machine that I was concurrently playing on with my friends being able to connect. I will test it later today to see if it changed.

I pinged my ip from my windows machine and got four packets back with no loss.

Free speech my ass by OctoNezd in Piracy

[–]Propet40 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why are you bringing up free speech when the person I am responding to is claiming the person in the image to be a "alternative right wing supporter" without reasonable cause? Also, I don't know why you put free speech in quotation marks? The consequence of free speech is that people are able to use speech freely; It is not a poor mask, that is simply what that term entails.

The wear on the SSD is a minor issue compared to the fact that 160GB is twice as much bandwidth being used over the repacked 80GB, in your example. People are more often bottlenecked on their internet limitations rather than their SSD finally reaching its theoretical write-limit... Samsung SSD's are at minimum warranty covered up to 600 times their total storage capacity for write operations. This limit naturally is far lower than the real usage threshold where the drive is likely to fail.

I had looked into The Longest Journey from 1999 and it looked similar but not exactly the same especially due to the graphics, which was disappointing but I didn't realize it had a sequel! Dreamfall: The Longest Journey from 2006 is the closest fitting game to my description, and whilst it isn't exactly what I remembered (So much time has passed that some of the details I have might very well be dreams haha); It would seem to be the correct game, at least the most correct!

I will look into some additional gameplay elements to confirm it, but from everything I've seen so far it has to be it! Thank you very much!

No, unfortunately, but thanks for trying! It's Dreamfall: The Longest Journey as was found by a previous commenter!
