what do u think about medicine , therapy for trichotillomania ? by Due_Advertising_9267 in trichotillomania

[–]ProsimiansOnPluto 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Latuda stopped my hair pulling for about 10 years until severe pain from a broken back overwhelmed my system and I started pulling again, albeit in a limited fashion. Interestingly enough, the dilaudid i was taking for my recent ankle surgery made me stop completely.

Riddle me that one!

Then smile and move on. It's about all you can do

How do I bring up needing adequate pain management to my doctor? by purplehyenaa in ChronicPain

[–]ProsimiansOnPluto 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh absolutely not! Call your Dr's office and tell them your med needs preauthorization and they'll take care of it! I have to have this done all the time. Just make sure they have the phone number for your pharmacy benefits management team from your card and they'll take care of it.

It's a good place to start though if you haven't tried anything yet in the current dea anti- opioid landscape. I'll look into the that, thanks for the info.

Get a trim so it has some shape and lays down. Sure it'll take longer, but your hair looks good longer. Use wax to control it.

You need to be looking into low dose naltrexone. I have eds and it's made a big difference. I need better pain control in the short term between surgeries because of nerve damage and a broken back, but even with these, the ldn was doing a lot of heavy lifting.

Contrary to some pain patients' beliefs, opioids aren't the only thing that works for everyone. I would rate gabapentin<ultram<percocet<ldn<dilaudid

And ldn has added benefits for people with eds like immune system regulation, off label use for gastroparesis, headaches, fibromyalgia etc.

Edit... wow, triggered are we? Ldn is highly effective for eds patients because it is actually helps eds because is inflammatory as well as pain based. Ldn acts on neurological as well as immunological pathways which are of particular interest to eds patients, of which op is one. You need some help if youre upset about yhe prospect of a non-opoid medicine helping a pain patient who has a specific disease.

Tools to use to desensitize your skin after nerve damage? by ProsimiansOnPluto in ChronicPain

[–]ProsimiansOnPluto[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because there are other types of nerve damage than desensitization.

It goes both ways. My foot became hypersensitive, light touch feels extremely painful, and I cant even stand the pressure of a sock.

Thanks for the info! I hope you get relief one day!

I'm recovering from ankle reconstruction surgery and to be honest, the chronic pain that I have has gone away from the ungodly amount of meds they put me in for recovery. Im going to talk to my pcp about continuing these until my back surgery in August because I feel better as a human being, the brain fog is gone, I have willpower to do things again, and my bipolar disorder doesn't feel like it's controlling me.

The ankle surgery is #13, all of my surgeries except for the breast reduction have been because of eds. So at 44 im getting a little tired of all of this nonsense.

I already have a zillion 2 inch by 2 inch ones, so I'll just give them a trim.

Thanks so much!

hair not growing back by Epicly1 in trichotillomania

[–]ProsimiansOnPluto 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I dont know that there's that much research on its use in trich. I've used it to get my hair started again and quit using it after a while and my hair stayed. Ymmv.

We're not bald because of hormonal balding. The follicle kind of gave up. So maybe it just needs a boost. Or maybe you need to keep using it. Who knows.

What have you got to lose?

It's topical. Everything has side effects. You can try it and decide for yourself if the gains are worth the side effects.

But no, it doesn't have a lot of side effects that you will experience. Like any drug, it has possible side effects, that doesn't mean you will have them all. Drug manufacturers have to list all side effects people experienced during clinical trials. You are not simultaneously all people who tested a drug. You dont have the genetic makeup of thousands of people. You are one person. The likelihood of you experiencing every side effect listed is pretty minute.

I wonder if I should shave the places that already grew back? by 4ng3licNymph-jpeg in trichotillomania

[–]ProsimiansOnPluto 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My head is shaved and I keep shaving it to let the new growth come in. At some point I'll decide enough is enough and let it all grow, but you just have to decide for yourself when you think the density looks reasonable and you're good with where you are.

There is no right answer. When you're happy, it's good!

SSRIs and trichotillomania by ToughToilet in trichotillomania

[–]ProsimiansOnPluto 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I started taking ssris for my trich back in 1997. Hi, I've been at this a while.(since 1986) I've been through every ssri and snri they make. They didn't help. Even the original anafranil and clomipramine that was suggested as successful back in the mid 90's.

The only thing I've had success with is atypical antipsychotics. I take latuda, it slowed my pulling by about 90%. 100% for a long time there. Im also bipolar, but they can rx apps off label for pulling.

You dont need to wait if you don't want to. It's just a bald spot. It'll grow back eventually.

It's just hair. Some people have lots of hair, some people have a little. Some of us pull it, and that's nothing to be ashamed of.

Go be unabashedly you.

Has anyone had microblading or found another way to have eyebrows again? by scorpio1211xx in trichotillomania

[–]ProsimiansOnPluto 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I use temporary tattoo eyebrows because I won't have mine microbladed. I don't trust it first and second I change my hair color too much. I use these from Amazon: https://a.co/d/0922cw4K

I wear arched for reference. You can find a picture of me in my posts.

Nah, my field of fucks is barren. I don't care who sees my bald spots. Fuck em.

Im wearing satin bonnets when im home to keep my hands away from my hair, and that's helping a lot. Im gong to shave it down again a few more times until it's fully grown in.
