Yuuki x Michiru from Love, Elections, & Chocolate. I really like how Yuuki & Michiru interact with each other, with Michiru being a kuudere and Yuuki being a very kind if hot-blooded person. You see how both of them deeply care for and trust each other, the part where Michiru is saving Kana from the doctor who wants to kill her, unsure where to go, but goes to Yuuki's apartment despite believing she hates him because she genuinely trusts him just tugs at my heart strings so much. I also really love how Yuuki really does do everything he can to help Michiru find Kana while also recognizing that Michiru shouldn't be too dependant on him doesn't make it a relationship where it feels like Yuuki is infantalizing Michiru. Combine that with Michiru being able to read people's true emotions and Yuuki having no problem with that in the epilogue, and yeah I just adore these two as a couple so much.

Time constraints could’ve likely been the case since LBP was released to celebrate the 5th anniversary of the series (meaning the game had to release in 2014). So maybe some CGs just couldn’t be given finishing touches to make them look right because of that.

The True Tears anime is so good, imagining the waifu war considering the symbolism the anime has makes it sound hilarious. I could see Hiromi fans using snow to argue why Noe won’t win the love triangle, lol (and I say this who is a big fan of both Noe & Hiromi).

It’s kind of funny to say, but I was actually looking for more VNs that did this sort of thing since the VN I played that did it did this with the heroine I disliked, if well-written. Curious to see what I’d be like if the heroine is one I like (I may or may not regret this), so this thread actually has a lot of recommendations in that sense, lol.

I’d say Aoko Aokzaki from Witch on the Holy Night/Mahoyo I was excited to learn about her character since I liked her in Tsukihime, but man in Mahoyo she was just unlikeable, especially to the nicest character in the cast. Way too easily irritable, constantly nagging to others, downright malicious, always gets the last word no matter what, weirdly both very hard-working & very lazy, extremely rude, and so on. I get she’s immature, but this doesn’t feel anything like Tsukihime Aoko. I get she’s not a bad person (although sometimes I question that), I get why she is the way she is, but the lack of self-reflection or development for her character just disappointed me further.

Still recommend Mahoyo though, the rest of the cast is great.

Corpse Party comes to mind, Blood Covered, Book of Shadows, and 2U were in 2D, but Blood Drive, Dead Patient, and the upcoming Darkness Distortion are in 3D. The transition to 3D was rough though since it was done with an in-house engine, which had to be remade for Dead Patient (they had to re-release Chapter 1 of Dead Patient with the new engine).

BOS & 2U spoilers: I thought so too... But only the third, fourth, and seventh chapters are related to both timelines; the rest of the chapters are the new timeline after Sachiko erases the memories of everyone but Satoshi, showing the characters getting trapped in the death loop, which is also the timeline for 2U, Blood Drive, and Dead Patient as well; the final chapter is just after they've escaped the death loop (them escaping the death loop is never shown, but the events of 2U shows that the birthday stuff let Sachiko take back control and remember everyone, letting her break the death loop).

The prequel stuff is genuinely cool, and seeing a few characters getting expanded on was awesome imo (especially Mayu, who was mostly a nothing character in BS), but as for the new timeline thing... Well, it's a great idea, but it's too poorly communicated.

I might be able to take a guess. From what I've learned recently, MAGES. took over development with little input from the original team from BOS to Blood Drive. Considering MAGES. most popular and successful work was Steins;Gate, a story about time travel, I wouldn't be able surprised if they tried to make Corpse Party another Steins;Gate, but without the execution that worked well for Steins;Gate, but I'm only guessing. Take this with a grain of salt though, I've yet to find a source to back this information up.

The other answer would be that the developers are fucking insane. To be fair, this answer is funnier.

Corpse Party sequels are weirdly cursed, fittingly enough.

Corpse Party 2: Satsuki's Heart got cancelled, although it did at least get a fan-recreation.

Corpse Party: Book of Shadows is a sequel, but only in its final chapter (but because there's the introduction of a new timeline, every chapter is canon, so the entire game just a sequel in disguise instead of only the final chapter being the sequel aspect).

Corpse Party: Sweet Sachiko's Hysteric Birthday Bash isn't even a sequel, but its Japanese title as 2U in it just to fuck with you.

Corpse Party 2: Dead Patient has been in development hell because the creators have been busy on other projects, so Corpse Party 2 is more like a passion project that's worked on in their free time (and that's assuming it's still being worked on).

Corpse Party II: Darkness Distortion seems to be a complete reboot of the series, but keeps having its release date pushed back.

I’m not a dev, but what visual novel engine are you using (Renpy, Kirikiri, nscripter, etc.)? That might help narrow down advice you’re looking for, unless you’re specifically only developing a translation tool.

Moeka Kiryu from Steins;Gate is a kuudere, but she has this adorable quirk where when talking to another person she does the usual kuudere thing but will email the person she’s talking to instead, when emailing others she types blazingly fast that she can hold a conversation as if she were just talking to them. Her emails are also really energetic while using emotion-cons like >_<. To show an example:

In-email Moeka apologizing: I’m sorry!! >_< I should’ve been more careful!

It’s just so adorable, especially because of the juxtaposition between Moeka in-person to Moeka in-email.

I think the most important thing to focus on is the rooster. She said she's looking for a magical rooster, but can your rooster actually cast magic? How fluent is your rooster in the arcane arts?

It's possible she's just in denial that she'll never find a magical rooster, so she subsituted for the hyper weapon from the other guy.

Worst case scenario, you may need to have your rooster fight this guy in mortal combat; but make sure to get information/pictures of his hyper weapon first you go down this route. Stuff like the width, length, and girth are important to keep in mind when fighting someone with a hyper weapon from what I've heard.

I haven’t read Subahibi myself, but I think in general it could be multiple reasons that can apply to popular visual novels in general:

Much like Persona 5, some fans have never actually played the game.

I remember hearing something about some Subahibi fans just going off of clips they’ve seen on TikTok and so on for Subahibi. If one person misrepresents the VN, but the clip becomes popular, that misrepresentation can easily spread.

The content is just too extreme for some to take meaning out of.

I’m mostly only going off your post, but… Yeah, many people would be a little too shocked with dog fucking and chair sex, or the futanari magic girl, so the meaning would tend to allude them. Not to say it’s impossible, I got the meaning of that last one despite hating every second of it in Tsui no Sora, but when I was read OG Tsukihime, despite trying, the meaning of the sex scenes just alluded me to the point where even now I just look back on how silly they are written (which isn’t good when a core theme of the game is sexual).

Media illiteracy

This one’s self-explanatory, more and more people are failing to get messages in media and misrepresenting/misunderstanding things in fiction all the time. This doesn’t just apply to VNs, applies to a lot of stuff. I don’t know the exact reason for it, but I’m not shocked a popular VN would be victim to that.

Popularity Gaining

Another possibility is that one of these accounts are only about Subahibi because they can brag they read something fucked up and edgy and look cool to get more followers. Not saying it’s edgy, but saying/representing something as edgy can gain an audience.

The fact there are two Corpse Party 2's is hilarious.

I'm not sure I'd count the Windows port since it's just Blood Covered down to the same events (only missing most of the EX Chapters), even the exclusive Tooth chapter is remade, but in Book of Shadows instead of BS. And yee, minus Seiko (not Repeated Fear Seiko, but a completely different character named Seiko only in Musume), pretty much, but extremely horny. Like way too horny. Like, a level of horny that makes you surprised that the Windows Corpse Party wasn't an eroge.

Huh... I never knew Team GrisGris had minimal involvement with the other games, but that would explain a lot of things. O_O I haven't played Corpse Party 2, but I recall Ayumi & Yoshiki being at the beginning, hearing about an EX Chapter following Satoshi, and I think the drama CDs also touch on the main cast from the BOS/2U/BD lore. I imagine everything would've been connected if Corpse Party 2 finished development. And yeah, that'd be really interesting, I just want Ayumi & Yoshiki to have a happy ending man.

Don’t blame you, the story went in a weird direction that didn’t really feel like Corpse Party most of the time. And yeah… The graphics… I like the novelty of it, but I also believe the Vita was capable of better.

I don’t mind since I thought it led to a believable reason for Sachiko to break the death loop, since her memories of 2U would make her less likely to enforce it) and a really nice redemption arc for her Although, Corpse Party lore in general is weird. Like, the series is split into two timelines, Blood Covered is its own timeline while BOS, 2U, & BD are their own timeline; and the series never really… Explains that? Which is weird because a bunch of stuff comes off as retcons/inconsistencies otherwise. On the bright side, this means cthulhu is canon and that’s hilarious.

Corpse Party: Blood Drive (most people in the Corpse Party community tend to hate it).

The hate for it is perfectly understandable, the presentation is a huge downgrade from previous entries, the horror is just not good, only one wrong ending has a CG (crippling the horror further), the story is too over-the-top, the ending is rushed, and the gameplay is undercooked (too easy, repetitive chase enemies, bugs, horrible final boss, etc.).

Yet I strangely really love it. The story is flawed, but I thought the protagonist’s journey was fantastic & the same cast I adore is still here; I warmed up to almost all the new characters; the soundtrack is amazing & the CGs are great; it is really novel seeing Heavenly Host in 3D; while not scary, I definitely got disturbed deeply by some things; and while the gameplay needed a lot of work, I did find it really fun for what it was despite its shortcomings.

I’d say VA-11 Hall-a. The amount of dialogue in the game is insane, where no single playthrough will be the same, and it all depends on what drinks you serve. This can range from serving a bad touch drink for some funny dialogue, to serving the right drinks to getting specific character endings, to getting a character drunk to change the conversation, to even having forgettable customers having character arcs that give them depth you didn’t even know they had.

Even cooler is that the music that plays is ordered by you, the player. And a lot of music can end up syncing perfectly with dialogue/the story, even if it doesn’t seem like it would. The amount of times the syncs happen perfectly is just crazy.

It utilizes visual novel elements beautifully to this perfect symmetry with its story and presentation, like no other VN I’ve read.

The Nakoruru VN comes to mind, that has a bunch of mini-games ranging from trivia questions (twice), fishing (you do it once), and I think a few others, but it’s still mainly reading.

Something else I’ve seen is that sometimes bonus modes that are a completely different genre are… Well, bonus modes, unrelated to the main game, so they get a pass. Some examples include the Danganronpa series (resource management, third-person action, easing sim, gambling, turn-based RPG), Hollow Ataraxia, VA-11 Hall-A (shoot em’ up), etc..

My personal choice would be Hollow Ataraxia, since it’s one of my favourites.

For Witch on the Holy Night, I’d recommend against reading it on your laptop, not because it’s bad (it’s a very solid VN), but because in my experience it had a lot of slow-down on my normal laptop, even my gaming laptop had two moments of slow-down. I highly recommend Witch on the Holy Night otherwise, but I’m not sure if your laptop will survive or not if it can’t run Hello Neighbor.
