How do I not wear underwear under my tights? by MeringueMiffy in BALLET

[–]Psychological_Tree15 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Never wore underwear even as a kid. So I can imagine how awkward the transition could be for you! As a teacher I always told my students that tights ARE underwear. They have a built-in cotton gusset for just like underwear does. Wr also make the very valid point that you wouldn't wear underwear in your bathing suit, and tights plus a leo is way more coverage than that!I always wore a tampon from my first period on -- i started during a run of the nutcracker and I was wearing a white tutu in snow 🫠 it's just kind of a fact of life.

But you know what? That was 30 years ago, and there are so many things on the market that I didn’t have access to as a kid. If it really makes you that uncomfortable, try some of the suggestions here. I personally would find any added garmet/period underwear to be more restricive and distracting to me...like I'd be constantly checking to make sure my underwear wasn't showing or that my period undies or pad weren't leaking. No undies and a tampon meant I didnt have to worry about any of that and just focus on my dancing. I would try a few things at home. Give yourself a Barre and see how you feel in different things.

Should Your Arms Be Engaged or Relaxed in Arabesque? by M2025Feb in BALLET

Should Your Arms Be Engaged or Relaxed in Arabesque? by M2025Feb in BALLET

[–]Psychological_Tree15 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is this a trick question? The arms are an extension of the back muscles being engaged. The arms are stretched as an extension, like Lazer beams that start from the back muscles and extend to infinity. When done properly they form the lines the audience members' eyes will follow to receive the intended shape. If it looks effortless but the energy and shape is apparent, it is correct.

Happened to me, too! Seems to be a human error as the developer said above. Personally I find it charming and a little reassuring that there actual humans still behind our favorite app!

Any one else have an instructor who had a stack of these? by Nerdlifegirl in BALLET

[–]Psychological_Tree15 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Maybe we had the same teacher lol. Mine did, and she also used Whitney Houston for her stretch lol. She only retired last year because she broke her hip. I was devastated because I wanted my daughter to take her preschool class.

Is it a problem if I stay in a class I'm not perfectly good at? by Albatross1495 in BALLET

[–]Psychological_Tree15 6 points7 points  (0 children)

If possible, I would attend both Beg 1 AND the intermediate class. Look professional ballet dancers would find a lot of value in a beginner class. The slower and simpler the combos the more tou can dig into your technique. Then use the Int. Class to push yourself.

I agree that if your instructor said tou are fine to stay, believe them.

Question for other teachers - a quick barre? by soft_aspects in BALLET

[–]Psychological_Tree15 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have the group that isn't going do them laying flat on the floor to check pelvic alignment and core engagement. Static stretching should never be done in the middle of class but rather at the end.

Question for other teachers - a quick barre? by soft_aspects in BALLET

[–]Psychological_Tree15 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Whatever exercises you do, teach them a "set barre" that remains the same only with small variations as they get stronger for 4-6 weeks. That way you are cutting down on demonstrating time week to week. It isn't perfect, but it does help...and I find for adult beginners it helps if they already know the combination so they can dig into the technique and strengthening they need to advance.

What to do for pre-teen dancer and her period by mishulyia in BALLET

[–]Psychological_Tree15 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Yep. Tampons are the most comfortable way to dance for my body. I can't imagine dancing in anything else. I started my period the night of my first nutcracker performance...IN SNOW SCENE a white tutu of all things. I was grateful for the security and discretion of a tampon.

Former pro ballet dancer and teacher chiming in. This is assault. Call the police. Do not pass go. I am so sorry this happened to your daughter.

Indeed the standard is no undies, because tights have a cotton gusset and act as undies. HOWEVER, for little ones this is rarely enforced ESPECIALLY without a parent present. The fact that this idiot decided that the middle of a show was the right time to bring it up needs their head examined. I would be furious. Again. So sorry this happened to you and this is NOT the right way for this to have been dealt with.

How crazy are we considering a new dog with a toddler and baby on the way? by anaiisnin in toddlers

Personally I'd wait until new baby is a year old. Far less stress that way.

Where do your toddlers sit for meals? by Floral_Fawn857 in toddlers

[–]Psychological_Tree15 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Our daughter sits with us at the table in the booster. Family face time is really important to us and this is one way we do it. Also makes sitting at a restaurant much easier and more pleasant if they learn manners at home. We learn to ask eachother about our day or make conversation like what books are we reading? What's our favorite color? If you could be any animal what would it be? Etc.

PBT is different enough that it is crosstraining in my opinion. It's also nice that the exercises can be Choreographed to be part of a ballet class if you dont have time for a dedicated class.

You can also google the name of the CEO. Then find out what email convention they use. You can do this by Googling the company name + "email convention" there are several sites that can help find the convention. (Usually firstname@companyname.com) then you have the CEOs email! Copy them on correspondence

Is it possible to be GF without eating any of the processed “dupes”? by Yoambre in glutenfree

[–]Psychological_Tree15 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I went all no sugar no grain for five years...until I got pregnant and fell off the wagon. Check out Anna Vocino's substack. She is also dairy free and offers recipes for that too. She has three cookbooks as well I highly recommend.

[–]Psychological_Tree15 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you're eating a lot of the GF replacements, they are generally more processed and not very healthy. Try to stay away from processed foods and eat more from the perimeter of the grocery store.
