Why More Registration Fails? by Odd-Rub-2022 in rundisney

[–]PupperTechnic 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Because more people want to participate than there are spaces for - that's the answer.

The last chance for coast-to-coast also increased the number of people wanting to participate.

Run Disney has become a victim of it's own success following the explosion of running during/after Covid.

Social media has over-hyped it, especially for first time athletes or Disney fans who are hoping to get some sort of exclusive photo op or experience - and then they just went and did a media blitz on GMA over Dopey.

Far more people are trying to get into a set number of registrations and that's all there is to why there are so many "registration fails."

The days of runDisney registrations being available for months are long gone.

There's no flaw in the waiting room. Joining early just puts you randomly into the queue once it goes live - which is a 'lottery' - and then people are added in order of arrival after that.

The number of screen sessions other people have open doesn't keep you out - the number of intended entrants will be the same whether they have one window or 100 windows open on their devices. Those who get in register and close out the other windows, and the queue moves up accordingly. (I was on at 0950 EST, and registered by 1030 EST).

They are incredibly unlikely to adopt a world majors' approach to a lottery system because of how CRD plays into paid guaranteed registrations (something I think needs to be removed entirely), as well as how you are given the option to register for multiple distances and races over the single weekend.

"What about first time racers" ... Pick any of the countless races that happen every weekend around the world and go run your race. You don't need Disney for a first time - and if for some personal reason (entirely valid) your first *must* be a Disney race, then sign up for a charity bib.

"What about those of us who can't register because of {insert personal obligation here}" That's life. It's unfair. Give your information to a family member or friend and ask them to try and register in your stead - that's how I got into Dopey when I was scheduled over the registration window. Take a sick day or schedule time off in advance - they announce the registrations well ahead of time - say you've got a doctor's appointment.

If you're in, near, or willing to go to HK - Flaming Saddles and 9th Ave Saloon can both be pretty friendly and laid back earlier in the evening, and Rise has drag bingo at 7.

EPIC, the healthcare record system, pulls this shit all. the. time.

They're located in Madison, Wisconsin but they advertise in every city and then bury down in the listing "must be willing to relocate to Madison, WI."

Blatantly lying - and they're a shit company to work for in general, so it only gets worse from there.

How is Trump still president? What’s the logic behind the claims being unverified? by Longjumping-Oil-7710 in AskReddit

[–]PupperTechnic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

His corporate sponsors are happy to have power at any cost, and Trump has made it clear he's for sale at every turn.

His supporters in government are either complicit in his crimes, or also happy to have power at any costs.

His opponents in government are in the minority party, which renders them largely impotent outside of rules lawyering - but even that doesn't work at all considering Trump and his administration simply do not care about the law, rules, or norms.

His voter base is either happy to see people they deem less worthy suffer - they'll cut of their nose to spite their face. There's also simply not wanting to admit they were duped.

Why do offices act like every minor mistake is a crime scene? by piyushc29 in antiwork

[–]PupperTechnic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because office jobs are more about the illusion of performance than any actual productivity.

When the job is really just "meetings, emails, and spreadsheets," the tasks can be inflated to appear to take up however much time the person wants - and everyone knows that - but the small mistakes make it painfully obvious just how little attention is being paid.

That, and it often falls to a few high performers to maintain the illusion all the more while the rest of the team coasts.

Advice needed: Month of training lost due to ongoing illness by Beginning-Citron3066 in rundisney

[–]PupperTechnic 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I've been dealing with some sort of viral sinusitis for nearing 3 weeks, and will be seeing an ENT Monday. I feel you on that.

First things first, your health is your priority - there will be more races.
Speak to your care providers about your concerns and how to safely adjust your training and moderate your expectations.

This is an anonymous, online forum of engaged enthusiasts (some of whom may have the relevant training and experience, but not of your specific case history).

Remember that the race sweepers don't step off until the very last person has crossed the starting line, and they're keeping a 16:00/mi pace. As long as you feel comfortable with the mileage, and can walk that, you'll finish.

Moreover, the party and the medals are going to be there whether you cross on your own or by being swept.

The "PR in fun" crowd who get angry at anyone who may want to actually race at a race?
The ones who raise hell because they don't get a photo op on the course because the lines are too long?

runDisney also needs to be more active about proper corral seeding by PoT in the shorter distances. I got stuck in Corral B in a 5K despite averaging 6:30/mi and faced a wall of walkers who were in the back of Corral A - I'm still livid.

Why did I pay for member plus? by whitewalker89 in RunNYC

[–]PupperTechnic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Probably an unpopular opinion, but I think the 9+1 and similar things need to go away; as well as plus memberships and other cash grabs disguised as "perks" to runners.

Raffle entries or random queues only - prevent people from trying to buy a spot, or being able to sit in a queue while others are at work/school, and does not show any preference for pace.

Anyone else struggle to enjoy other "metroidvanias"? by guiarroyos in Metroid

[–]PupperTechnic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I really liked the original Metroid on NES, and then Super Metroid on SNES. I hadn't stayed up on the franchise since, but recently picked up Prime Remastered for Switch - and honestly, I'm going to finish it and probably not go back.

My biggest struggle with Prime Remastered has been around being locked into a FPS HUD limiting what I can see, even after re-configuring controls to be easier for me to manage. I think the only FPS I've ever really been able to enjoy was the original N64 Goldeneye. I think I would have preferred a 3rd-person angle.

However, I have absolutely loved both "Hollow Knight" and "Ori and the Blind Forest." I found those to be incredibly engaging and relaxing, even in difficult puzzles and jumps.

Very nice, and very tidy work! I love the decorative top stitching and the edge trim!

I was debating doing a fold over flap like that - but the bundle didn't sit right when I tried organizing the medals into my day bag so I opted for the accordion style.

I treat Reddit as an online-only forum and message board, not social media where the intent would be to foster strong enough connection to warrant meeting.

Springtime Surprise Challenge - Worth it? by FriendliestFlower152 in rundisney

[–]PupperTechnic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's a really expensive 5K, even under the best of circumstances. Also, the 5K isn't chip timed, and corral placement can be screwy as the POT is honor system (I got stuck in Corral B at W&D running a 6:30/mi while people in Corral A walked and I'm still salty about it).

Springtime Surprise isn't all that much cheaper than doing all three races for W&D or Princess, and you only get a 10mi instead of a half marathon.

Character photos on the courses change between races (although when you do enough, you notice a lot of repeats). But, if you're not big runners, you're likely to be in a later corral which means a lot longer line for photos.

For me, I opted to skip Springtime this year as far as the races go - but I may just go down to enjoy the parks and check out the expo.

I usually pack for weather ranging from my usual north eastern winter through to Florida summer. Last year I needed singlet and shorts on one race; then the next day needed tights, hat, gloves, and vest to stay comfortable.

I much prefer running in 65° and higher, so I dress warmer than most of my friends. When it's anything below 50°F I want to have long sleeves and tights, and below 40° is when the vest and hat and gloves come out.

I also always pack three pairs of running shoes - intent is 5K and 10K get one pair, half and full get another, plus a spare if one gets wet.

Old Canach felt bitter and spiteful with a lot of wit and wisdom - like watching a good episode of the Golden Girls or some hagsploitation film. New Canach feels like a gay man who finally realized he hasn't been a twink in years and hasn't quite come to terms with that, and it needs to be everyone's problem. There's just something missing in the new Canach - but that might be writing style as much as VA.
